and so fucking what if she share her husband's wealth. what if her husband dies or don't have any property to inherit. she will get kicked out by her own family because she came from the tribe who gave Adam apple.

But a male child can inherit and will to another woman not from the family. isn't that foolishnes?.

the tradition is barbaric, egocentric and at the same time stupid of the Igbos for all I care.

even if she inherit her father's property, she can will it out all she wants.

Read properly next time. I didn't say the tradition is good or not. I only explained why they did it.

It can still be challenged.
Especially when there is no will his daughters must be included in the inheritance
See let me tell you no Igbo woman that comes from average family picks interest in his fathers property over the sons even if she is the first daughter. No woman from average family where properties are limited does that.. Even the sons nobody is raised here in average family expecting to inherit rather than working hard to have his or her own.

Women are highly revered in all cultures. Stop being a child, it's not like yarriba women have done anything to make them stand out. Igbos are the pace setters and your refusal to admit it to yourself is why you people keep bringing up unnecessary fights.

Typical Nyamirin Osu Igbo which pacesetting is this one talking about now?

Always trying to brag over nothing like an empty barrel. You sure talk big as an inferior and insecure Osu

@bold,I am igbo and you are so right I cannot marry an Igbo man.I agree with all you have said.

An Igbo woman and a Yoruba man is most times a perfect combination. Yoruba men never grew to expect much, Igbo women are trained to give EVERY. The food you will cook for your Igbo bf and he will be dragging feet to eat, because he has been told it is his RIGHT. A Yoruba guy will swallow it all and ask when you will make your next village soup for him.

However, if you are a strong carrier of the oriaku syndrome, avoid Yoruba men. An Igbo man is still king when it comes to giving oriaku pills. grin

This was put to discourage the females from running away from their matrimonial home because of her father's inheritance. This is the main reason while Yoruba's have broken homes
Abeg ee.
What is wrong in a broken home if the woman is being abused and her rights trampled on.
Why will she not run away before such men cannot even try that rubbish with yoruba women making such reason as an excuse for such culture is pure wickedness and disregard for human rights.
We will get there someday were women will be respected

the Igbos are very weird people. met a guy from Anambra. during our conversation, dude told me he cannot build house in his village because of his "village people". said he had to appease some kind of village Demi Gods before he leaves every December.

how can you discriminate against your own child just because she is female and the selfish thought that she will share the inheritance with her husband. what of her kids? is the property not theirs too?

Supreme court don talk say women have a right and must inherit from their fathers properties so there is nothing you can say that will change that fact and if challenged in court the female must be given a share of the inheritance

Maginalising women for over a century in the name of culture, any culture that doesn't have human face all over Nigeria must be abolished. Another one is that of Edo that gives everything to the first son, imagine that.

I bet that over 95% of Igbo's don't know about it talk more of coming to agree with it. Females inherit properties in Igboland although most fathers are much more reserved when it comes to lands. Only ancestral properties are barred by tradition to be inherited by women and that won't change tomorrow. For some places where women are totally forbidden from inheritance, it is a traditional issues not a legal one.

Do you know that eastern region parliament abolished OSU system about 60 yrs ago? But I bet the members themselves wouldn't agree to married osu if they met one afterwards. Which is why its is still practised where it is found today. It is a traditional issue and can't be settled by legal show-offs.
So what is so special about the tradition that it cannot be abolished legally.
The Law of Nigeria supercedes every tradition and the legal remedy can always be applicable.
Just say that the people are adamant to change it does not mean that it is an impossible task that cannot be done away with.
Nothing is set in stone.

This is why this female always want to get married to the Yorubas so they can have right to properties.

Such a backward system. In 2020, they still regard women as nobody tueh!
It should be Yoruba men striving to marry Igbo girls as they are trophy and a thing of pride over there.

I argued it with one guy in March, I told him if any female takes her family to the court that she will win, the guy blindly argued and rejected my opinion vehemently, saying nobody can try it in East. That, its their culture. I told him. Can ur culture and custom supersede Nigeria constitution?

We talk so much about southern Nigeria customs not to supersed Nigerian constitution.

In the north, sharia laws supercedes the Nigerian construction, why

I come from an igbo home so I know how bad it is, the way they made my sister do everything then make it seem like I was entitled never actually occurred to me until later, though my father did not allow it my mother (a woman oh can you imagine) engineered it. Chai, let us stop behaving barbaric and change for shit's sakes, my grandson even told me that in our village women are not allowed to sell land tufia.
What concerns self determination and culture,,
This is how one slowpoke, on this same thread,,, said that no Igbo will rule this country, because of this barbaric act.

It is not an igbo mentality speak for yourself I am igbo and I know women who have always shown interest. It is not in your place to decide a woman's interest.
As for the average family I get your point but that does not change the fact that females have a right to inheritance and at the same time does not stop them from working to make their own
