This judgement will definitely give room to more divorce cases since the lady knows that she still has an inheritance in her father's house so she can leave her matrimonial home anytime she wants just like people around the Southwest does
Interesting

In my community, we are just and learned. I don't know the cave you come from but don't equate the backwardness of your people to others.
Your community is backwards if it does not recognise the rights of women as human beings who deserve the sane respect and treatment accorded to men.
You cannot be just and learned if you are opposed to the supreme court judgment

You are allowed to console yourself with lies. Problems only arise when you begin to believe your own lies.

The greed in igboland is out of this world.

The custom has been existing based on greed and 'long throat'

A man dies, the wife and mother of his children is subjected to all manner of ill treatment.

Her hair is shaved, she is confined to a room for almost a year and treated as if she was the one that killed the man.

Worst still, if she does not have a male child or if she did not bear children for him... You will begin to see hungry looking uncles talking about 'sharing' the deceased properties.

Its a barbaric and repugnant custom and i am glad the Apex court has cone to the rescue.

Is that why you're feeling so pained?
Im rejoicing for Ibowomen. This is victory for them. Someone has to stand up and protect their interest. Aren't you happy Supreme Court ruled in their favor?

So igbó has this kind of discrimination and abuse of rights, and they are quick to abuse Muslims when living according to Islamic doctrine. Most of them are Christians and Christianity doesn't preach against non inheritance of female child, please correct me if I'm wrong.

In Islam, female child is to collect half of inheritance of Male child. She will inherit the other half at her husband's house. Then male child has no where to inherit aside from her parents. You can see that Islam doesn't undermine your right as a woman, you were strategically placed equally with men in many areas. You only need to learn your religion on every matter instead of allowing non Muslims to cast hatred into your heart.
Why did you steal my thought?

Re: Supreme Court’s Decision On Female Inheritance Divides Igbos by Princedapace(m): 1:24pm On Aug 26, 2020
Well, it all depends on families. My aunt husband is super rich and he has properties given to his daughters and only son and one adopted son.

It all boils down to families and many families have been giving properties to women.

Now, this whole stuff started way back as men are assumed to take full responsibilities of their families. To be a man, it is more like u are to face the brutality of life, survive and make it and take care of ur family which u are starting..

Unlike women who get married and are taken care of by the man! So, life generally is already in favour of a woman than a man. This was the idea behind this whole concept.

It is quite difficult for a man to be financially raised by his woman, he is assumed to do the needful. This way, a woman is already one step ahead of a man financially. That is why people will look at the size of ur pocket as a man when u want to get married while they careless about that of a woman.

To help the male child, families usually give them properties to help them stand and start up another family while the ladies get married and are taken care of or assisted by their husbands to stand too.

While we are happy this has now be made legal to will properties to women, even though many families are already doing it. We also need to change so many things to reflect modern life. One is the issue of getting married. Pls, the expenses should not be left to a man alone to bear, in fact, it should be 50/50!

Also, women should be ready to spend on men as much as men are willing to spend on women. A woman who is well to do can take up a man who is not well to do and grow him too! I mean, these things should happen effortlessly!

As much as men are critically assessed financially when getting married, so should be done to women as well. The world is changing and we all need to change.

Mr Nwankwo, I'm not going to insult the Igbo tribe because of a mentally deficient and vacuous minded soul like you.

You think spelling the word Yoruba as yarriba means anything? I it can only mean something to people like you who are yet to develop a useable medulla oblongata.

The only people I pity are the Igbo women who have to put up with chauvinist cretins like you who see the women as commodity to be bartered at weddings.

The Igbo culture treats it's women abysmally.

Non inheritance by females is despicable.

The treatment of widows is appalling.

Selling of your daughter to a man because you managed to send her to higher institution is a cavalier attitude.

No wonder the average Igbo lady would rather marry a Yoruba man. I don't blame them though.

You can dance zanku on my mentions all you like, I won't be responding to your juvenile rants after this.
Wasting your whole day on this thread,,, as if you really care for Igbos,, will not still change the culture. Any Igbo man can will his property to his children(both male female) you outcasts are only killing yourself on Igbo matter.

Long overdue! I argued it with one guy in March, I told him if any female takes her family to the court that she will win, the guy blindly argued and rejected my opinion vehemently, saying nobody can try it in East. That, its their culture. I told him. Can ur culture and custom supersede Nigeria constitution?
what is ur argument ,is sharia law not superced Nigerian grand norm?

Nothing like that in Yorubaland...so I can't relate.

I am learned and intelligent enough to know that cultures change and traditions are not written in stone they are always subject to changes with the times because they are laws made by men. There is nothing special or important to understand about cultures
I have lived in the SE.
Also the supreme court is the law of the land that has more power than your community culture and tradition.

You yarribastards have killed the thread with your Igbo hate.

The reason why this is so, is because by getting married, a woman shares her husbands inheritance.

If a woman is allowed to have inheritance, she will take inheritance from her father, and still share her husband's inheritance.
See how unthinking u r. Won’t the men inherit from their wives and also from their fathers? And how about those who never get married?

A supreme court headed by an Fulani man whose intent is to reform Igbo tradition and introduce us to civil civilization. I am an advocate of gender equality and I equally in support of the use of Nigerian institution to reform an old and barbaric Igbo culture. This law will continue to fly against bad and evil culture in Igboland, thank you justice Tanko.
