Good day all,

My wife has just recently moved over to England. What are the things she can engage in to give her an edge when applying for jobs? The jobs market now is difficult due to covid, and she can't yet go back to uni for Masters due to international student fees. We just need ideas. Many thanks

I think the Veterans are at work. They will respond when they get off smiley. But in the meantime can she volunteer? Preferably in an organization that looks like the type she is targeting paid work in.

Volunteering always helps with experience and getting your foot in the door. All the best.

Details about her education, experience level, career path etc will be helpful for advise.

First thing is to search for her role on all the job advertising site and create daily alerts for opportunities.

If you really need something immediately, some Amazon jobs are readily available dependant on your location.

Ofcourse care and support jobs if she prefers that.

Thank you. She has a law degree from Naij, but hasn't been to law school yet, and it's not like she wants to practise law anyways.

So at the moment, it's sort of a clean slate for her.

My opinion is that she should find whatever job she can get at the moment but on the long run I suggest she looks into getting into teaching in primary or secondary.....reasons being that (she will get tuition free grant while she is training and a starting salary of over 25k ...
But this process can only start once she has stayed over 3yrs ...

[quote author=omopapa post=92707118]1. Do you have to get transcript by hand to send to them or send it separate from my other documents?

You can attach a scanned copy to the application if required

2. Should I get a letter from Medical Science Council of Nigeria or Just include evidence of my registration with the body?

Get details of someone from MLSCN to use as reference. They will contact this person or the organisation to confirm your registration with them. Email addresses MUST be official emails as they don’t accept personal email. You could also get a reference letter from the association to support your application.

3. Can write I am in English-speaking country or a note from my school?

Since your first degree was taught in English, you can get a letter from your uni to that effect.

Another option is UK NARIC English Language Assessment. It costs £59.40 and will confirm your level of English using your submitted documents/qualifications.

4. What the chances of getting licenced and hence getting job using my B.Sc.?

If you can proof that you are already licensed and working in Nigeria and meet other requirements, it should be smooth sailing. Once you are HCPC registered probability of getting a job from Nigeria is VERY high.

Additionally, you shld apply for UK NARIC statement of Comparability test (costs £60) it will equate ur Nigerian BSc to UK Standard.

Good luck

Good day.

Please I still have need for some more clarifications.
1. Can I use my National identity number(NIN) to replace the National Insurance Number(NIN) in the HCPC form; or how can i get the National insurance Number?

2. My supervisor has no official email as requested by HCPC but my manager has, but less knowledgeable in my field. What should i do and who should i use?

So at the moment, it's sort of a clean slate for her.

Practicing law is pretty much out of the question for her given the way the legal profession works in this country.

But it also means that she's stuck with a terminal degree that's only really useful in a particular niche.

She now has to decide what her long term goals are: a source of income, or a professional career.

The latter will require her to retrain in a different field, which will not be cheap.

If she's just looking for income, then she might consider the usual jobs - Care Work, Warehouse Operatives, etc

Unfortunately, in this pandemic even those jobs are not readily available. I read an article in the guardian the other day about PhD holders applying for bartender positions.

It's tough out here right now.

For those who have been working in the UK for a while, how much can someone earning minimum wage expect to earn at the end of every week or per month?

What is the minimum monthly take home if you earn minimum wage and are working full time please?

National Insurance Number is only for UK residents

You need someone who can backup your experience

Amazon job sad reminds me when I worked at amazon warehouse for 3 days I never went back. The warehouse is the size of 10, YES TE...N football stadiums. Job is readily available and good for people looking to lose weight except you are lucky to get packing instead of picking orders

Just saw this website https://www.creditladder.co.uk/ on how to make your rent count towards a good credit score.

This will be helpful for people looking to buy a house and getting a mortgage soon.
