I'm not too sure about it.. In the end everybody is using everybody selfishly and when we can't do that anymore we move on to the next. I doubt this real love thing tho except the one between family members and the one God has for us. The rest na office jor.. most likely

Yes true love exist. And I've experienced it over and over again. There are lots of things that inhibit the expressions of true love, and in the case of Nigeria (where the op opinion is formed), true love will be hard to find because majority of the population are poor and stuck in the survival hierarchy and humans by nature will premium "safety and security" over "love and belonging".

If you also observed closely, you will notice that people fall deeply in love in their younger state, a state of innocent naivety, inexperience and within the financial coverage of their parents/guardians. Meanwhile as people grow older and the responsibility of adulthood slowly becomes a challenge, they approach the world (including relationship) from a practical perspective, and finance is a huge part of it.

Check out the hierarchy of needs below by psychologist abraham maslow, he detailed this well. People at the very top are philanthropic (eg dangote, Bill Gates,) but people at the very bottom still struggling are more likely to be gold diggers than lovers

as an economist myself I cannot but marvel at how well you used Abraham Maslow's law of hierarchy to state your point,but love is very complex...it's not black and white...as a matter of fact there are lot of theories on what true love is..and love as a topic is so vague that it is difficult to define what true love is...before then determining if it exists or not. personally,I can tell you that it's not a function of hierarchy of needs...even dangote's wife might not love him..or he might be finding it hard to find love...and a poor man might have more love from women that him...(true love in the context of genuine here)...for me...it depends on context...and by that...Yes...it exists
