kikero:these are not reasons enough bud, first people in SA are already seeing the light that they're paying for, not here abi d bills u pay corresponds with what you hoped for? Did u pay for 4hrs light daily in Naija? Citizens have lost trust in the sector, my side we even have timetable sef, 3 days on one day off, yet its not up 24hrs kwa but now Bill don go up ooo we go still pay, what's their reason for the increasement? Nothing at all. Provide an enabling environment for the citizens and watch them grow independently, our siblings who travel to the west are enjoying basic amenities and paying jejeli cos it's worth it, we would do same here too if it's worth it, people have paid for meters for years n yet to receive, the sector keep on extorting people. Miaplaced priorities by the government, quick to pass bills that negatively affect the citizens at large than General good. We have no excuse why we should be having 24/7 power, the resources are there. 4 Likes |

kgr8mike: Banning generator won't solve the problem Even if we had light 24/7, in times of natural disasters, a generator works to provide power while the power supply is being fixed Generators can also be used in remote areas where powe cannot reach 1 Like |

allthingsgood: Your mentality and thought process is a result of a lifetime oppression by your leaders and the mediocre culture of your society. You believe Nigeria can't easily generate stable power giving some stupid reasons they've imbibed in you. You wonder why >90% of Nigerians are considered to have mental problems? Not far fetched. 5 Likes 1 Share |

Mistakemaker: Nothing is stopping us except greed, evil and wickedness. Nigeria leaders sell power to neighbouring countries and embezzle the money. That's why we don't have power. |

My dear its corruption. Corruption has eaten deep into every system. People value good things but can't bring it to Nigeria because if they do the corrupt smelllows will hijack and dismantle it. |

kikero: All am saying is we need to break down that sector as much as possible and as such individuals should be running the show. I don't see the reason why states who have gas/hydro shouldn't be able to sustain themselves and have to put a chunk of whatever they generate into the national grid. If individual states are able to generate their own electricity and are able transmit within, these takes a lot off whatever weight is being put into the national transmission lines. It's not rocket science 2 Likes |

kikero: If you want us to get real, you haven't scratched the surface. 50% is an exaggeration. I know some people bypass metres but 50% ? No way!! Nigerians are actually the ones losing. Do you know how many Nigerians are paying more than they should? Someone that doesn't have light for 3 weeks and 2 days, then you bring a bill of 10,000 naira for 5 days of epileptic power supply. Most Nigerians are actually doing the jobs of these power companies by providing new poles and new transformers, repairs included. 5,000 megawatts that should be shared for 5 million people. But you share it to 150 million + Nigerians, billing all of them. This is the reality!! The power companies are obviously the highest cheaters. 4 Likes |

RealEzee: What resources? When many people are not paying their bills? When our major income streams are falling drastically? Especially oil.? When people bypass their meters And stop this nonsense about not paying for power because we don't see it Back when GSM came into this country, service was poor, you could not even call another network for over 2 years , and missed calls were common Yet we kept on paying high prices for that, and the companies took our money and made things much better. And built a multibillion business and a telecom network that required no government money or intervention We have a power sector that needs money. Yet we refuse to pay our bills, we demand low prices and we bypass meters when installed At the end of the day, the power sector cannot attract investment and cannot take loans to build things...unlike MTN, airtel and Glo that even had loans lined up before they started business self and 9 mobile. As a result we don't have light. Again, you cannot run a successful business if half your customers don't pay This problem has been ongoing since long before Buhari took office in 1984. Since the 1970s infact. 5 Likes |

Because we sell power at a cost less than what we produce it, complicated by the fact that as much as 40-50% of people don't pay their bills, and even when there is meter, some bypass the meter....that means that the power sector does not have enough money to make the needed improvements In fact the power sector is in a one trillion naira hole financially . All the discos and gencos are running at a loss. Modified Going through the thread I see that people are ready to blame everyone, Buhari and GEJ inclusive for the power problem. The reason why we don't have light is because in Nigeria we think we can get a Ferrari for the price of a bicycle. Yesterday I told someone the actual cost of power in this country as related by ex CBN bigwig Moghalu, and he accused me of lying. We know power costs a lot of money, but accepting that truth, that in order to have stable power we need to pay as much as 60 naira per kWh is too painful So we blame the Hausas, Buhari, the IMF, GEJ, the discos, the gencos, the executive list , etc etc. Meanwhile most of us refuse to pay our bills, chase electricity workers with cutlasses , bypass meters, and cheat on our bills and we expect light 24/7 I think Nigerians tend to live in sugar candy land too much I think the fundamental problem is "TRUST" we don't trust them to do the right thing even when we pay the #60 per KWh. 3 Likes |
