I graduated from the university seven years ago. After my youth service, I went back to my school for a postgraduate program. It took me four years to complete the program due to death of my supervisor and ASUU strikes.

But in between the four years, my hod called and ask me what I do. When she learnt I was unemployed, she asked me to come over to the department and start working as a casual staff for 20k salary. I had to accept since she needed someone skillful in MS office computer packages, beside I have done a lot of odd jobs before then which couldn't feed me let alone paid my rents and school fees.

Then, last year while doing the job, the university commenced recruitment which was very massive, but underground. God being so faithful, I was able to graduate from the masters program at the time and she kept promising to help me push my cv for employment. I came out as the best postgraduate student in my department with the highest FCGPA.

Brethren, do you know what has happening from then till now? Vested Status interest.
Since then till now, my application has been going one step forward two steps backward. She minuted on the first one last December. It got to the faculty, the Dean minuted and sent it out after much pressure from me, minutes later she ordered the application to be returned and that was all I heard about it. But she pushed her son's application and he was employed as well as our Hod's. She pushed her daughter's and her husband's niece, they both got while she kept lamenting that she's confused on how to go about mine, stating she has ran out of idea on how to go about it.

This afternoon, she called to inform me that, the university wants names of all the ad-hoc staff in all the departments for immediate employment as junior staff. She was asking me if I'm interested in the offer since I'm currently a PhD student and the job should be for ssce or fslc holders...

She said if I should accept the offer that it might terminate my chances of getting a teaching job, which I've been applying.

Please, what should I reply her?

Such a person has no genuine intention of helping you. I would suggest you cast your net elsewhere or outside of her.

Are you really asking this question?

That woman is just using you!

She is enjoying the slave-master relationship. Young man, get yourself out of that department and into job hunt. Very soon, something good will locate you. Never settle for the SSCE job...she will have a very good way to keep controlling your destiny.

Move...!!!

Hold on to it bro,but please start applying to other institution...it's not easy but a bird at hand....
Many of the universities due to Ippis inclusion are doing underground recruitment,so just put your ears on the ground and apply swiftly when you hear anything....Wish you the best.

Simply tell her in the most polite manner that you want her to help you for teaching job just as she helped her family members.

She will most likely get angry.

Then don't ever bother about talking to her ever again.

She doesn't worth it.

Don't take that miserable job offer.

You won't die if you decline. You will find something else to do later. It might be difficult but you will survive.

If there is another good job opportunity, that woman will give it to others she knows. Believe me.

It's very clear she's using you... So what you mean to say is since you've graduated you've not really entered the streets to hustle for a job? From graduation to msc to PhD not leaving the four walls of the university. Be a man and Take the initiative.

Bros, she left the bread crumb job for you that will infact stop your dream

Guy, better to reject the job offer and apply for another teaching job in another university by yourself

Stop depending on people for jobs, they will always give you what you should manage not what you want.

Same story here, I completed my nysc in 2013, had a contract job with ppmc, got admission for an Msc program which I completed in 2018, moved to Abuja to stay with an uncle who encourage me to come so he can help find me a job because the contract job was terminated in 2016. I came into Abuja, my uncle and the wife asked me to work in their eatry while looking for job with 30k salary. Omo I recently left their house and their job because I found out that they don't have genuine mindset to help rather to manage their business for a peanut. I have huge responsibilities which I couldn't take care of. My advice, look for help else way, don't entirely hope on him or her, as far as he has pushed the relatives employment, he doesn't been well for you.

@Op can't you read in between the lines to see that you're being used?

With your PhD, it's better you reject the ad-hoc staff offer and look elsewhere for better options. Submit applications to lecture in other institutions, who knows your luck can shine.

By this time tomorrow, you would have known what to do. Am sure Lalasticlala will move this to FP.

Before the thread reach page 3, matter don settle.

My little cent - don't settle for less. As a Phd holder, dont jostle with ssce and FSLC for employment. Shoe get size na.

Maintain social distance with that woman. Find a worthy mentor in that academic arena.

How do you have a master's degree??
You should probably take the ad-hoc staff job since you are used to doing boy-boy and you may not be able to survive the real world.

Walk away sir....

Humans can use others now.

This made me remember a friend of mine when I wanted to relocate during Nysc. Person I helped got a job and begged her to tell her brother to help me as he did hers, story all through, until God came through without paying a dime and knowing no one.

Leave her place and look elsewhere.God would help you...

That woman is super mean, she's obviously trying to deter you from progressing and only wishes for you to her errand boy and nothing more. You'll end up running errands for her son, niece and others. Think abourrit well and if you're religious, I'll admonish you to pray to whatever you believe in.

The comments above have done enough justice to the situation.

It wouldn't be the best of decisions to continue working for/with the woman.
Just find other means outside her.

May God see you through Sir.

My dear, when a favour is not directly laid to be activated by someone, do not blame or feel bad towards that person. you don't know the kind of relationship she has with her brother or the brother has with the link that he pushed his sister through. It happens to us at times, there are somethings we can only fight for one person, when another gets on the list it becomes tough. her brother had her done before you came up, do you know what happened to that link since then? don't be too quick to judge.

I wasn't being judgemental. I wish I could put all the stories here but I have moved on...

I later got lucky...which is fine. But the thing is family first, it is always rare to see outsiders being considered first before your family. The man should just walk away if he can't wait or continue.

Please, what should I reply her?

Get your transcript and start applying for PhD scholarships outside the country, focus on Australia, USA and Japan or even Germany or Italy. Stop wasting your time running PhD in Nigeria school. They will ruin you.

Tell her NO, you should have gone through another source when you noticed her body language. She's not ready to lift you up. Be careful of your association with her. Hold your future plans to your chest, she doesn't have your interest as heart
