If Medicine is what you truly desire, then go for it, invest on your time so that it'll worth it. Whether you study Medicine which is roughly 7 years course (based on unforseen circumstances) or not, you'll still clock 29, so why not invest preciously on your time. If you're concerned about getting married late, you can marry while still in school if you meet the right man for you. There are lot of them in the medical college. At the the end of your course you'll realize that you must have taken the best decision ever.

P:S:- 22 years old is not even old at all, there are about 8 ladies in my class that are above 22, and we're all in year 1

In 6 years from now Mary, whether you study Medicine or not, you'd be 28. Why not go study what your heart desires?

If worse comes to worse, you get married while still in Medical school (I'd suggest Clinical years, 500/600L), I have seen some instances.

A lecturer I know had her first son in 300L.

Although, you would have to get an understanding spouse. Not someone who would be wondering why you want to kill yourself over "big-big books" and you're not having his time.

If you had been a guy, my answer would be somewhat different, but you're a lady, so I know to some extent your fears.

All in all, do not trade your dreams for something you can't even figure out from where you are.

The horizon gets clearer the further you go.

Instead of admitting the number of students they have a carrying capacity for, they resorted to over-admitting them and thereafter rusticate them via stringent exams and one sitting. This is extreme wickedness.


Moreover, in the 2019/2020 academic session, JAMB discovered that UNN gave admission to undeserving candidates in medicine, law, pharmacy and nursing through the backdoor by avoiding JAMB CAPS so that JAMB wouldn't detect it. On discovering it, JAMB reassigned them to other departments.

Instead of owning up to their mistake, they resorted to blaming the students, and couldn't give a reason why they gave admission to undeserving students in programmes their JAMB scores didn't merit. If this wasn't discovered by JAMB, they would still weed them out either in 1st year or 3rd year via stringent exams.

It was a late registration as it was only one bank that was selling the form then in Abakaliki. As the gracious God did it for me, I was offered a direct entry admission into medicine and surgery at EBSU, and I quickly left that useless, big for nothing UNN.

UNN is all about the name it bears. Medical school is medical school.

The man who transferred from UNN to EBSU is Hon. Tony Nwoye who was a former Anambra gubernatorial candidate under the platforms of the PDP and the APC, and also a former House of Representatives member.

He started medicine at UNN and completed it at EBSU.

Age doesn't really matter, If you're passionate towards studying medicine then go for it. When you eventually get there, you'll be less worried after seeing those older than you. If it's about marriage you can still get married while in pursuit of your dream.

There're people who got married before heading to med school, there're also girls in my class who're getting married this year while still in the race. So put the fear aside if medicine is what you really want.

Apart from the high school fee of state universities, the EBSU medical school is as good as the UNN medical school. I was once in UNN before going to EBSU. If I compare the UNN's and EBSU's faculties of basic medical science, then EBSU has a better facility.

When I was in UNN, they would share the time, and some of us would sit under the mango tree close to the gate of the Anatomy department learning osteology, so that those groups doing practical in the histology laboratory and those doing dissection would be through before it would be our turn. The same scenario took place in both the biochemistry and physiology laboratories.

Moreover, the governor is now building a state of the art teaching hospital.

Even the EBSU school hostels at the Presco campus are better than that Kenneth Dike and Mbonu Ojike hostels at UNEC that are dirty.

The soakaway pits adjacent to my room at Kenneth Dike Hostel overflowed their brims and spilled over, and everywhere was smelling badly due to faeces, yet they never repaired them or evacuated the excess faeces until I left the school. We inhaled the bad air all the time.

Even the department of physiology is a makeshift house. When I came to UNEC, I lost the respect I had for UNN. In fact, some federal universities are leaving in past glory. I did my first degree at UNIZIK, and I discovered then that the federal universities only have reputable names. Aside the name, they're not better academically than most state universities. That's my experience.

Lastly, I can confidently tell you that most medical students of UNN will prefer EBSU to UNN. In fact, most of them will choose to transfer to EBSU rather than remain in UNN. The management has messed up the UNN medical school.

One of their main problem is admitting too much. How can a school admit so much that when it was time for MB they were almost 700+...
Whenever you see any UNN student or graduate that is really good, just know that person developed his/herself. The school is really bleeped up sincerely. I thought this new VC will bring back the glory but his own was now even worse. I don't know if its a competition of doing worse than their predecessor.

Thanks my boss. People need to know this. Guys are wasting precious years at home chasing what are only fantasies. I wasted 2 years of my life (well i became more sensible during that period) chasing "Big Schools" just because I couldn't bring myself to apply to another school when Fed. Unis weren't working out. If you get admitted to study in fed uni, I swear good for you, but what you need to know is that there is no advantage whatsoever apart from maybe lesser school fee and few months hype which will soon clear from one's eyes when you enter and see the stress you are in. All in all, each Nigerian unis whether state or federal have their own problems. About EBSU, i think it is about to get shot into the top 5 medical schools list in this country with the hospital they are building. The new Teaching Hospital is maddddddd.

You can buy the form but you have to put Ebsu as first choice as quickly as possible. The form is no more longer, even the list has been sent to Jamb already.

Also, when going for interviews as a medical graduate you won't be asked " which medical school did you attend?" Instead its more like " where did you train?".
The real deal is on the teaching hospital and the knowledge you acquired.

I mean I as a patient won't care about whether you are a U.N.N graduate or an ABSU graduate, but can you do your job "efficiently"?

To cement the foundation of this whole rambling I would say that I was a little biased(if you saw what I did there), its not all black and white but a whole spectrum of colors.

I'm a medical student in my 3rd year and I believe I'm going to fail my first professional examination. I've been doing very badly, not because I have difficulty understanding or because I'm not passionate enough but because I can't seem to get what I'm reading to stick in my head.

I read and come back and reread and still, if you ask me a question on the topic, I won't know anything.

I did badly the last two semesters. My Anatomy is good enough but my Biochemistry and Physiology have gone to hell. I don't know what to do.

I haven't completed any of the first and second semester's work and I'm struggling to find my footing with third semester.

I feel defeated and depressed. I don't want to repeat or withdraw.

What study methods does anyone, any medical student or anyone think I can use to be able to remember what I've read?

How will u go for an interview and they wont ask where u studied? ur credentials and cv would be requested from u. Schools u attend sometimes play a favor for u but one should not kill oneself on this. Because it is still the same education that u would receive at other schools and even at that it is you that would be treating the patients. if federal schools are not working, pls try other schools.
