This is an individual choice. Nobody should be criticised for whatever choice an individual makes when it comes to protest. As for the question! Yes. In as much as we Christians are looking forward to our heavenly home, we're to make our lives on earth look heavenly. If something is wrong with the system, you correct it through legal and non-letal activities. That's how things work. It's just sad that we Christians get annoyed when our spiritual father's church is been attacked than when our brothers and sisters are being killed. A perfect example was the CAMA bill but only RCCG actually took a long walk to protest against the massive killing in Nigeria |

[quote author=AkinwaleJJ post=94787672]I am one of Jehovah's Witnesses! We will never do such a thing because the Master taught us to all those in authority to take their chances in whatever they feel like doing since we know that their government is not our government! Matt 5:39-42 Whatever they're doing there is none of our business since our own government is not from this source! John 18:36 People voted them in so it's the duty of those who voted them to protest against them perhaps those elected aren't performing as they promised the voters. But for us who never has any hand in all their arrangement, ours is to leave their premises for them if they will not allow us worship our God in peace! Matt 10:23 We are not part of the world! John 17:14-16 [/quote Hypocrite |

AududuNine11:Hello there. That is an excellent starting point. But when we consider Isaiah 19:4, it seems to me that the Bible has an even more stark position on such things: 4 I will hand the Egyptians over to the power of a cruel master, and a fierce king will rule over them,” declares the Lord, the LORD Almighty. Isaiah 19:4 (NIV) This is not the only Scripture that sounds like this. Many times, the Lord makes clear that He gives nations the rulers that they deserve either as punishment for them or as a test for them. Protesting then is merely a declaration of rebellion against His Will. So I strongly advise against it. What seems the better alternative to me is 1 I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— 2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. 3 This is good, and pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. 1 Timothy 2:1-4 (NIV) After all, 1 In the LORD’s hand the king’s heart is a stream of water that he channels toward all who please him. Proverbs 21:1 (NIV) I don't believe that there are no times when we can respectfully protest against illegal treatment. Paul appealed to Caesar when a Roman governor tried to hand him over to the Jews who wanted to murder him. We might need to do things like that sometimes, but going out on the streets to challenge the authority and will of rulers seems to me to be foolhardy in the extreme given 1 Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. 2 Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. Romans 13:1-2 (NIV) 13 Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human authority: whether to the emperor, as the supreme authority, 14 or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right. 15 For it is God’s will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish people. 1 Peter 2:13-15 (NIV) |

Men what I'm I seeing like this ![]() The only thing I'm against in this protest is the violence, but that doesn't mean I would see bad that could turn worse happening and shut my mouth. Imagine if you lost someone to this SARS or badly injured beyond repair. For whatever reason I pray you don't fall into the hands of evil you didn't take action to eradicate now, you might say God forbid but do you know tomorrow? |

AkinwaleJJ:I've not seen a more delusional group than you Jehovah witnesses. You do not belong to this world, but you live, work and start families in it. Does not belonging to this world save you from police brutality? Will a blood hungry policeman spare you because you don't belong to this world? Leaving other people to fight your battles while hiding under a neutral umbrella while everyone fights your battle is nothing but cowardice. |

TsaTrinity:I do not totally disagree with your well thought submission. But I must say, the "long walk to protest against massive killing in Nigeria" has no impact or whatsoever to the stopping of killing or what will be. Persecution of the believers is one of the prophecy foretold of our Lord Jesus. All these uproar, killings, uprising, violence and chaos guys we not only in naija bit all around the world only tells us one thing, "RAPTURE is imminent". |

As a born again matured Christian, Christ is our perfect example. During the days of Christ, there was corruption in the land but he never protested or cause any mayhem because he knew his assignments. As Christians, we have a system we operate and we have an assignment here on earth and we shouldn't follow the systems of the world because by strength shall no man prevail and not by power, not by might but by the spirit of God. If you tell all those protesting to come and pray the way they are forcing us to protest, we de come? The answer is no. We have our own format which is prayer and we will continue to use it. Shalom |

Many well-known people have felt that protesting oppressive systems is a moral imperative. For instance, the late Václav Havel, a former Czech president who spent years in prison for his human rights activities, wrote in 1985: “[The dissident] can offer, if anything, only his own skin—and he offers it solely because he has no other way of affirming the truth he stands for.” Havel’s words foreshadowed the desperate acts of Mohamed Bouazizi and others. In one Asian country, dozens have set themselves on fire recently to protest religious and political repression. Describing the feelings behind such extreme actions, one man told Newsweek magazine: “We don’t have guns. We don’t want to harm other human beings. What else can people do?” The Bible offers a solution to injustice, corruption, and oppression. It describes a government that God has set up in heaven that will replace the failed political and economic systems that lead to protest. A prophecy about the Ruler of this government says: “He will deliver the poor one crying for help, also the afflicted one and whoever has no helper. From oppression and from violence he will redeem their soul.”—Psalm 72:12, 14. Jehovah’s Witnesses believe that God’s Kingdom is mankind’s only true hope for a peaceful world. (Matthew 6:9, 10) Thus, Jehovah’s Witnesses do not engage in protests. But is the idea that a government by God could eliminate the reasons for protest unrealistic? It might seem to be. Yet, many have developed confidence in God’s rulership. Why not look into it for yourself? Source www.jw.org |
