Another scary thing is the funding for the protests. If funding was just from within the country, I wont be concerned, but I am particularly scared about the funding coming from outside the country (over N35Million now). Even yesterday, the flutterwave account was said to be shut down by the cbn (which later turned out to be false, it was temporarily suspended by the company's chairman due to suspicious activity) and they continued accepting donations by bitcoin and crypto, boasting that they are untraceable and the CBN cannot control these.

It made me think to myself, so this is how foreign actors, enemies, foreign terrorist groups will freely fund movements that can tip this country into turmoil.

I can imagine the joy going on at the Elysee Palace in Paris. France's biggest geopolitical foe is on the brink of chaos. They tried weakening Nigeria by breaking it up during the civil war and failed. They have another opportunity now, to destroy Nigeria finally and be the major uncontested power in West Africa. It's inconceivable that French intelligence will not be looking to take advantage of this situation. They might already be part of those providing funds to keep these protests going.

You see why China will never all social media or cryptourrency that they can't regulate.

Which France? You guys just watch documentaries and swallow everything hook, line and sinker

Have you noticed that areas like Ladipo, Balogun Market, VI, and Alaba International market where people make their living do not have people coming out every day? There is a reason why.
The protest is continued by jobless people and we know all those areas you named have hustling people who don't have time for nonsense.
They've got families to feed for crying out loud.

Okay...
Let me give you the benefit of the doubt

If you were the adviser to Buhari
And we are being faced with endsars and all these as they are unfolding

What will you advice him to do?

As for me, I like being pragmatic and realist
I'll advice Buhari among other things
To instruct the IGP to throw some sars officers "under the bus"

This singular action will calm a lot of things down

Making an example out of some will show that the govt is serious

Now, dont get me wrong, the preliminary actions taken by the government has been relatively commendable so far....

However more concrete action need to be taken to really calm this

Resolving matters with ASUU to send these young students back to school ASAP is another deft move to make to pour sand inside this fire....

A simple announcement that we are back on the negotiating table with ASUU over this IPPIS thing and we are at advanced stage would work magic

These protests are a consequence of so many things we cannot ignore
And a smart government knows how to manoeuvre

That's very good

I implore ASUU to be both reasonable and resolute at the same time

As long as there is a compromise

ASUU, please take the deal....

I've read the arguments against these protests but it seems a lot of people don't know what the youths are up against.

Before you condemn the End Police Brutality protesters, try to pay a visit to the prisons and see the number of innocent persons there. Personally, a Policeman once stopped me on the road and asked me what job I was doing to drive the kind of car I drove. I told him I'm a lawyer who owned my firm. He insisted on going through my phone to show I was clean. It was until I threatened to sue the CP and IGP before he started begging. Imagine what other young professionals face. A few weeks ago, some policemen threatened to slap my uncle who is above 60 years. This is a man who retired at Director-level in the CBN.

2 days ago, a colleague reached out to me that her neighbour was arrested by the Police. There was a Warrant from another state for his arrest, so it seemed okay on the surface. Now, when she got to the Police station, the Policemen told her not to bother getting a lawyer as it won't change anything. According to them, if the family of the guy was willing to play ball, they would arrest a random person on the street and use him to substitute the person in custody. Provided the court has gotten a scapegoat, it won't matter even if it is an innocent person framed and jailed for an offence he knows absolutely nothing about.

I know for a fact that innocent people are raided regularly and taken to the station. If they can't pay heavy sums for their bail, they are framed for armed robbery and beaten into making self-indictive statements. Also, other persons in custody are tortured to identify the innocent persons as members of their gangs.

You sit in Nairaland thinking your chicken change or investments can protect you or you think you're too old to face Sars or Police harassment. I laugh.
20 years from now when you think you're safe. You have invested all your life and sent your kids to live abroad and they are back for the holidays. Your son takes your car to fuel at the gas station or you send him on an errand and these criminals in uniform would profile them. In the course of explaining and arguments, they would be shot dead. You think it is impossible? They would kill your children and absolutely nothing would happen, I guarantee you. How many killer cops have you seen jailed?

I'm not for anarchy and breakdown of law and order but you should know that peace is not the absence of conflict but the presence of justice.

Well said
And succinctly put...

Because we are in the top quintile of Nigeria, some of us think we are immune to these things and that is why some are making insensitive comments about the protests

Like you said
Those FEW millions we think we have is making some feel aloof and comfortable with the status quo undecided

Thankfully though
Things should calm down hopefully by weekend, as it seems the government is making some right decisions

The direction this will swing depends largely on the government now....

Even armed robbers and kidnappers are more scared of jungle justice than police. Jungle justice has been proven to be one of the most effective ways to curb crimes.

Innocent citizens are more scared of the police than thieves.

If not for mob action/jungle justice, one million boys wouldn't have stopped robbing. Did you see any Sars comes out to fight them?

I can't do what I like in my place of work, I am paid to do and act right. Same way the leaders are paid to act SENSIBLE.

And private individuals are buying foreign nationalities and using foreign healthcare services because they can afford to or want to,so why are you bothering me with all this long talks?

And using that MTN and Airtel example is really off.
