ROOM AND BOARD means your Living Expenses and it should be filled as 10,000KCAD. Whilst, OTHERS are your miscellaneous expenses and flight itinerary. I advice prospective applicants to fill the OTHERS with 3KCAD or 4KCAD.

I hope this information helps.

It will end in praise

@Lekiboboe Thanks so much for your assistance, this is really helpful.

Please i do like to ask few more questions;

1.) Do i need to state in the SOP that i was recently offered an admission in same masters program here in Nigeria but opted out and decided to broaden my knowledge in my field of study by applying to study in a Canada University and then include admission offer as proof , will this be an added advantage or should i completely leave that out and not mention it.
2.) Secondly do i need to apply for a full time or part time Masters program.

I look forward to your kind reply and clarification.

Please everyone , i do like your inputs on my below questions earlier especially the unanswered No. 6 and 8

Regards

Lekiboboe:

Hi EngrCGD,

Due to the competitive nature of graduate school (M.SC/PHD) in Canada, don't limit yourself to any top ranking skool, widen your admission horizon so u can av lots of options if a particular skool don't click, at least work towards 10-15 schools for ur Mech. Engineering Masters.

You can also work towards a Full or Partial Funding Thesis-based Masters in Mechanical Engineering.

Note:
All schools in Canada are very ok (at least 85% upward).

Sequel to that,

Visit the link below and google/explore the Masters in Mechanical Engineering Program in Canadian Universities (DLI) as much as you can.
https://www.universitystudy.ca/search-programs/?k=Mechanical+Engineering&program_level_merged=Master%27s+degree&program_language=ENGLISH

then make use of the content below to Start your Masters in Mechanical Engineering Admission Process.

Visit the link below for
Guides/contents/videos in the link below on how to apply for M.SC & also possible M.SC Funded (Scholarship) Position in Canada
https://www.nairaland.com/5818588/canadian-student-visa-thread-part/111#90933556

Your Status & ur number 1-6 shows you have good HomeTies-Famiy Ties- Economic Ties and you established in your home country (Nigeria)

1) Like I said initially, don't limit yourself to any top ranking skool, widen your admission horizon so u can av lots of options if a particular skool don't click, at least work towards 10-15 schools for ur Mech. Engineering Masters

2) Yes, note that most schools will require IELTS/TOEFL, but since you come from an English Speaking Country (Nigeria) you are exempted

3) As regards Low tuition sch. for M.SC, they do mention Memorial University at New Foundland (MUN) here in the forum, u can check the skool out for their Masters in Mech.Engineering,

Also try to consider applying to lots of schools and work towards getting a Full/Partial Funded (Scholarship) thesis-based Masters in Mechanical Engineering

4) Google the skools to know their Refund policy

5) I will advice, for now you should apply alone and go without your Wife & Kids, they serve as your Hometies (i.e Something that can compel u to come back to Nigeria after your studies). It is highly mandatory of you to show that u gonna be coming back to Nigeria after your studies.

9) No one can assure you of ur chances of getting a Visa, it all depends on your due diligence and how you fulfil all righteousness as regards your Canada Study Visa Application.

Also, a Visa Officer do make decisions at their own discretion

You can help yourself by getting some Enlightenment & Education as Regards Canada Study Visa Via the Link below

CANADA STUDY VISA APPLICATION FULL GUIDE (D-I-Y) & other Useful Information pertaining to Canada Study Visa
https://www.nairaland.com/5818588/canadian-student-visa-thread-part/341#94059644

Then ask questions in the forum on things u ain't clear of

DO AWAIT MORE RESPONSE/INPUTS FROM MEMBERS IN-HOUSE and also Response to your 6-8 questions

Good luck!!!

Hello EngrCGD

1) No in my opinion, but I’m not a guru so others might have different opinions. I feel it does not help your SOP in anyway. What you should be making clear in your SOP is why you are choosing to do it in Canada when the course is being offered in Nigeria.

2) you’re applying for full time

For number 6 and 8. If I were you, I would move the funds to my personal account because using company accounts can complicate applications. Since you haven’t even applied for admission, you have enough to time to build your personal account up. You can pay yourself salary if you wish but I feel showing your documents of business registration is a good proof of source of funds, if you decide not to pay yourself.

Best wishes

Hello saipn.

A general tip for writing your statement of purpose. Written by @lekkiboe

Guidelines on How to write an SOP (Statement of Purpose)

Most important thing: Avoid Plagiarism

While writing SOP, the following things to be mentioned which will boost chances of convincing a VISA OFFICER and possibly getting a STUDY VISA APPROVAL:

1. Introduce yourself in first paragraph. Write, what kind of person you are, your interests and personality etc. This may also include one line background of work & study you did earlier. This should be related to the course your are going to pursue.

2. Explain what do you know about the area of study you are applying for.
Like HR, Marketing, Finance, IT, Multimedia, Engineering etc. Market trends, application of knowledge in work, organisations/roles where you can work after studying in this XYZ field and if possible, 1-2 real life example where you experienced this personally (in your current job or someone in family who works in this field etc.)This shows you are well read and know what you are getting yourself into.

3. Now explain Why Canada.
Mention all points Canada is famous for like low crime rate, diversity (which helps in learning), livability and quality of life related statistics etc. Facts & figures help you here. Google a little

4. Why this particular college/Univ. Explain ranking of the same or relevance of course being offered or if someone known is studying there etc. Mention positive points which you can gather from ex-student's testimonials and college website itself. Again, write in your own language and by your own understanding.

5. Why this Program:
Mention why you chose this program. Explain how courses (subjects) of this course will help you in your career, how some of these subjects you have learnt earlier (basic knowledge) and need better and upgraded knowledge about these (especially if applying for PG/masters), explain application of subjects in real job scenario etc.

6. Summarize with reason of coming back to home country: Now summarize all details by mentioning your career goals and what will you do post completing this course.Mention how this course will help you in making your career in your home country. Be passionate about job market of your home country and coming back to your country. Because "You'll not leave Canada" is one of the biggest reason for Student Visa refusal.

7.Travel history
If u av not travelled bfor, state the reason why u av decided to travel at this point of ur life, and how important the program is to ur career & personal development back home

8.Family Ties-Hime ties
U can talk about how children are apparent to family inheritance, and how u are obliged to take care of ur family (parent and siblings). U can attach their birth certificates

Secondly, talk bout Landed Properties (Documents, deed of assignment, Deed of conveyance, survey plans and other important doc.) to of prove ur Hometies

9. Proof of Funds
Mention that you have paid ur tuition fee or made a deposit of ur tuition fee and so so as amount has bin set aside by your sponsor for ur Tution fee (if not yet paid), so so amount for ur One year Living Expenses (might be more than one year) and so so amount for ur flight itinerary

10. Final Note
U can end it like this or in ur own language
Dear Sir/Madam, I hope that you will find all my documents in proper order and I kindly request you to process my visa application as soon as possible. I am very much thankful to you for giving me your valuable time to process my student visa application.

Your Sincerely,
Write ur name and Surname

Honorable lekkiboe and the house,

Please what thesis-based master’s program can a Bsc Accounting student apply for? Student is hoping to get funding.

Thanks in advance
Hi Honorable Chocs

Visit the link below for Schools in Canada offering Masters in Accounting

https://www.universitystudy.ca/search-programs/?k=Accounting&program_level_merged=Master%27s+degree&program_language=ENGLISH

Am not too sure if there is funding for Commerce Related Thesis Program like Accounting etc., it's mostly Science & Engineering field i do know of that offers funding.

But who never can tell, only a Professor or Profesors in Accounting at Canadian Universities can be able to answer the question about funding.

If a Student in Accounting is Hoping to Get Funding, this is what he/she can do, explore the Hidden Route to Get Hidden Funded Thesis-based M.SC/PH.D in Canada

Route to get Hidden Funded Thesis-based MS.C or PH.D in Canada

Since scholarships are mostly competitive & often select fewer people, you don’t want to put all hopes on them. Another (perhaps better) way is by "contacting Professors"

In Canada for example, Professors often have research grants to work on a particular project(s). Ideally, this might be a year, 2 to 5yrs (or even longer) depending on the funding. The output of this is to publish papers & make some evidence-based results.

The Professors are mostly busy (as you can imagine, teaching and all), so they need some outstanding students to do this research with them.

The students (Research Assistant) will work on the Professor's research & funded through the research grant.

This grant (in most cases) will be enough for you. It can also be combined (depending on each school policy) with Teaching Assistant (where you assist Prof in teaching a particular course & get paid for it). This way, you work with Professor, get paid & get your MSc/Ph.D.

So, how do you go about this?

How do you contact Profs- especially since they don't know you before?

You need to reach out to potential advisors (Profs)

You have to identify your strength, what excites you most in your course of study?

What would you like to study?

E.g:
You like Forensic Accounting, What in Forensic Accounting excites you most?

You need to identify a research question and your strongest motivation for studying what you want to study.

Your questions need to start with:
How? Why? What? Etc.

A research question can be like:

Detection of Income Manipulation

What's is the result-oriented path to Prevent Income Manipulation ?

Now you have something interesting to you, look for Profs working in those areas:

A. Use google
eg: Prof. of Forensic Accounting in Canada. Once you see anyone interesting, visit their website, read their papers, connect something they’re currently doing that interest you.

B. Search for schools-
Eg: University of Alberta,. Visit the dept of Accounting, they will list all Profs, their website & contact.
Once you identify Prof(s) you like in the field of Accounting, send them an email (state your interest in joining their lab, attach your CV and transcript if you have).

If there’s a potential fit, they'll reply, probably schedule an interview with you via Skype or Zoom (online).

If all goes well, you'll be encouraged to apply for admission & if admitted (your funding will be confirmed), & boom, you’ve got it.

this seems a better way of getting funding.

So, what are they looking for in you?

This is like a Job, the Prof. wants to see you’re a good candidate & can do research.

In particular, the prof wants to see:
1. If you've published a paper Or show that you can write a research paper?

2. Your achievements- CGPA, Awards etc

3. Your enthusiasm, your curiosity in that research, especially if you can quickly come up with a research question

4. Your skills-
Can you use some software that will help the Professor research? (Peach Tree etc).

What do you need to start preparing now for the scholarship round

1. Identify what you would like to work on- very important.
2. Your transcript
3. Identify your referees
4. Start sending emails to Professors now.

5. Start writing a draft of your statement of purpose and Personal statement (tailor it to the scholarship).

Lekiboboe thank u very much
Everything you have said has been noted
I've read a few posts on here and it seems very time consuming.
With 2 jobs, wife and children it seems like a big task to take up.
But if agents are not reliable I guess I better start learning about the process
Lekiboboe:

Hi Mekus,

Why use an agent when u can D-I-Y (Do It Yourself)

Reason is, the outcome from all this agent have not be pleasant lately, also you would be surprised some of this Agent are not even doing what dey ought to do, they are mostly after the money, and if an Agent makes a selection or out a wrong information on a Canada Visa Application, the Applicant might get Banned for 5 or More years.

I would suggest,
since you haven't had an experience of this bfor, why not take ur time, get educated & enlightened about "Canada Study Visa Application" , so even if u decide to use an agent on the long run, you would know if u are on the verge of bin scammed or not.

From your GCMS note, I see your proposed program length is 3 years. I hope it is not an advance diploma. If it is, that answers the part you don’t understand. Advance diploma is lower than your previous education. This raises the red flag of educational history. I would advice you to look for a post graduate diploma or certificate in your previous education or work experience. If your proposed program is not an advanced diploma, what is it and are you sure it is a three-year program?

All the best.

In my own opinion, I don't think there should be a problem on that as far as u have done medicals passed it,

It seems AIP has changed the Arrangements of Application, some applicants with AIP got Medical Request while some didn't

This leaves me with a question for clarification purpose,
Should an Applicant who got AIP, has done BIOMETRICS, did an Upfront Medical (Passed) still be expecting a Medical Request again?

Hi @Lekiboboe,

So I did not do an upfront medical. No medicals at all. Do you get now? That’s why I am expecting a MR.

Really,

you should av done an Upfront Medicals since you got an AIP.

The thing is, Most times no two application is the same.

In my own case, I got AIP & 6 days later I did an Upfront Medical and 2 weeks later it was updated to PASSED on my CIC PROFILE.

Good morning, all the gurus in the house

@Lekiboboe.

Please I need your take on this.

Please I need your advice on my application and the way forward.
I got admission for fall 2020 to one of the Colleges in Canada and I applied for visa through an agent.

I applied in June
Got AIP to proceed online study on August 5th
Got Biometrics in June 25
Got Medical Request on August 12.

All these were done and updated on my profile.

The problem now is that my course of study is Laboratory based and my school had asked me to come down to Canada for my study on first week in September but I don't have the full study permit to come. I wrote a letter to the Registrar explaining my predicament that I just got AIP and that I can't travel without full permit. All my plea for deferment of admission or request to study online until the coast is clear fell in deaf ear. Later on my admission was withdrawn by the school.

Technically I don't have admission now though I paid a non refundable tuition deposit of 1,500 and due to the unclear future I didn't pay the full tuition fee.

Following the device of @JustMellow, yesterday I sent a message to the Registrar intimating him about my condition and telling him that I want to reapply again for the program. The registrar told me that I should not reapply now that they don't intend to admit International students in fall 2021 that if I can wait till Fall 2022 then I can reapply.

How should I proceed with this my condition?.

If am giving full SP what can I do with it?

If I apply for another course in another school for summer or winter, can I use this SP?

Please am confuse, I need help.

So, if you recall, some persons were having troubles with their upfront medical getting updated on their profiles. So I just chose to wait to get a MR to avert those issues. And that’s what has kept me here till now. But the lack of update since AIP is beginning to make one uncomfortable too.

This is quite strange, from the College,

What is the name of College ?

Cos most Canadian schools (DLI) knows that IRCC said "Only those who got Study permit on or before March 18 are allowed to come to Canada"

They shouldn't av withdrawn u, they should av at least asked u to defer or you tell them u want to defer.
Av u tried mailing them to know if u can defer to Fall 2021?

Cos most In-person (Non-Virtual) Programs for Fall 2020 (those that av paid Tuition deposit or Full Tuition) have bin advised to defer to Fall 2021 or wait for their Visa Decision bfor Deferring.
