Mehnn this unhealthy competition is so unfair. I've never heard anything of such until now.

By the way, does the rule only apply to 300level MB exam?

Yes it only applies to 2nd MB exam, other exams such as PHARM and PATH, you can resit it for as long as you like until you pass it...

Apart from the high school fee of state universities, the EBSU medical school is as good as the UNN medical school. I was once in UNN before going to EBSU. If I compare the UNN's and EBSU's faculties of basic medical science, then EBSU has a better facility.

When I was in UNN, they would share the time, and some of us would sit under the mango tree close to the gate of the Anatomy department learning osteology, so that those groups doing practical in the histology laboratory and those doing dissection would be through before it would be our turn. The same scenario took place in both the biochemistry and physiology laboratories.

Moreover, the governor is now building a state of the art teaching hospital.

Even the EBSU school hostels at the Presco campus are better than that Kenneth Dike and Mbonu Ojike hostels at UNEC that are dirty.

The soakaway pits adjacent to my room at Kenneth Dike Hostel overflowed their brims and spilled over, and everywhere was smelling badly due to faeces, yet they never repaired them or evacuated the excess faeces until I left the school. We inhaled the bad air all the time.

Even the department of physiology is a makeshift house. When I came to UNEC, I lost the respect I had for UNN. In fact, some federal universities are leaving in past glory. I did my first degree at UNIZIK, and I discovered then that the federal universities only have reputable names. Aside the name, they're not better academically than most state universities. That's my experience.

Lastly, I can confidently tell you that most medical students of UNN will prefer EBSU to UNN. In fact, most of them will choose to transfer to EBSU rather than remain in UNN. The management has messed up the UNN medical school.

You are right, what do you expect our school fees is just 45k for 2nd year student the hostel is 12k for boys Kenneth dike and mbonu ojike male hostel

You paid 45k+ 12k =57k for both ACADEMIA and ACCOMMODATION what do you expect ,57k is not even up to EBSU hostel fee at all, not to talk of the development fee they pay in EBSU...

You don't expect to live big with such amount na haba fear God..,

but when it comes to students UNN have good medical students, what do you expect when you come to a class seeing people who scored 290+ populating 70% of the class, you can even learn from them before the lecturer teaches the topic,UNN is a very good medical school the only problem is our POPULATION we are too much in UNN...Imagine tell me now how can you compare MEDILAG(CMUL) to UNEC when in a class you have just 100 medical student and 15 dental students, compared to UNEC with 350 medical students with 150 dental Students

But then our class for 2nd MB student is big enough to accommodate us and our lab too are ok they share us into batches (is just that the management is not doing well)

Please I need easy to understand textbooks for Haematology, microbiology, pharmacology, forensic pathology and chemical pathology. Your recommendations will be highly appreciated.

I'd prefer Indian textbooks if you know any.

We expect proper management of the school and the school systems.

Um, that doesn't matter really, don't let corrupt practices become normal, I think we should actively shun them.

I'm talking based on the comparison he is making, comparing EBSU to UNN

We re much hence the the higher chances of having a rough environment, I'm sure the 200l and 300l class numbers is bigger than the whole EBSU population from year 2- year 6, the only problem in UNN is just population and these has led to mis management

EBSU medical students don't pay developmental fee. It's AE-FUNAI that does that. Besides, its hostel rent isn't more than N30K at the Presco campus.

The UNN medical school should be reformed. It's not encouraging. Most of its medical students aren't happy about the situation of things there.

The hostels should be renovated. No student makes it academically while living in an unhygienic environment.

That physiology auditorium can't accommodate all the physiotherapy, medical and dental students that will be taking professional exams in 3rd year. Even the white castle (house) can't even accommodate them. This must be addressed by building more lecture halls or adhering strictly to its admission quota.

Lastly, every medical school has brilliant medical students.

White house accommodates us, white house sitting capacity is more than 1,000 , the only problem in the school is the hostel, many students even stay off campus 50%

A school were they have 21hrs light daily in the hostel....? The hostel just need renovation and proper maintenance like they just did in NSUKKA CAMPUS ,2nd MBBS student don't stay in PHYSIO AUDITORIUM...! you know stop Ranting

Why do we have quotas again in schools?
Its not your personal preference and acceptability that defines the problem, its a holistic concept. Ten out of fifteen people will tell you that the management is simply dismal.

How can you say the only problem is hostel
Jesus christ!
Guy what you typed is wrong. Do not defend mediocrity because you want to save face.
We have population problem, we have hostel problem(which was not so when the population was small),Lab equipments etal.

But we need to address the issue of Population. Population in UNN medical school started 2014/2015 academic session. but it was managed then until 2016/2017 session when post-UME was scrapped. The school admitted excess that year. Since then, thats now the new normal.

Before, all college of medicine students stay together to receive lectures from Medicine, Dentistry,MLS, Nursing, Radio,Rehab all stay in physio Audit.

When 2016/2017 Medical students crossed over to College of Medicine, they started dividing them into batches from lectures to practicals,Clinical postings, even exams undecided

You think its still not a problem?
Go to other medical school and see for yourself.
2hrs practicals for batch A and another 2 hrs for batch B, and possibly batch C. When before, they used to engage everyone at once for 4-6hrs straight practicals. I do pity those last batches because those instructors would have been exhausted before it gets to their turn.

The school management should look into this population problem.its really a big deal.
I love UNN with all my heart. I will still choose the school over and over again but lets call a spade a spade!

Do you think medicals are the owners of white house? Wait until business faculty wants to use it if they won't send you'll out.

Its time we call the school management out. starting from the Deans to Provost College of Medicine, then the VC. If not, UNN will soon become a shadow of itself(producing half baked that would fumble if he/she mistakenly does Internship/housemanship in places like LUTH,UCH and other reputable medical enters).

No cap you are right, over population leads to mis management, but then things can still be managed even with the number, but the school is not trying, we don't have a single borehole in COLLEGE OF MEDICINE,UNEC.you can Imagine a whole UNN

we even buy proteins with our money for practicals e.g when we want to do protein test we brought egg by ourselves

UNN has population issue but it can still be managed, but there is no management team in UNN, UNN is just filled with greedy leaders.

There's no 21-hour electricity daily in the school hostels. It's switched on at night and switched off at 11 PM.

2nd MBBS class used physiology auditorium when I was there. Later, we started using histology lab, and it couldn't accommodate us. In fact, we passed through a lot of pains there. Because of that, we started using the white house.

50% live in school hostels. So, I didn't rant. I said it the way it is.

Once we have good management, there is no way they will ADMIT more than their capacity.
So its not really about managing the population. If they(management) is sincere, there won't be any population explosion in the first place.

UNEC used to be a silent place. A serene and conducive environment to learn.
The population was so small you could know almost everybody in school. grin

That borehole is a really a problem. Only God knows how much would be gallon of water.

So, you want to tell me that there's frequent power supply in Enugu by the PHCN? We're all in Nigeria. The PHCN doesn't usually give light frequently.

I'm only sure of the generator which is normally switched on at 7 PM and switched off at 11 PM, because I witnessed it. The SUG fought for it. Before, it used to be a total blackout until the students revolted. That's how the generator came about.

Besides, if you people say that there's a 21-hour power supply at UNEC, what happens in the day time if the PHCN takes light? After all, the gen set is only on from 7 PM to 11 PM.

Moreover, it's not usually most of the time that PHCN restores light before 12 midnight.
21hrs power includes PHCN and generator.

Yea, there are times when PHCN wouldn't restore power, but it's seldom happens. Like three or 4 times in a months.

About that SUG stuff, it wasn't a total blackout that made them revolt. Works reduced generator time from 7-12midnight to 8-10pm,that was the reason why the protest took place. After all said and done, they settled for 7-11pm. Nsukka campus is 7-10pm.

Like 3 or 4 times in a month? In this country Nigeria? I lived at Kenneth Dike then, and your statement isn't totally correct.

Moreover, there wasn't a standby generator before. I still maintain that there used to be a total blackout in the past until the students revolted. That was how the use of generators came into being. Go and ask questions.

It's not factually correct that the PHCN always gives a 17-hour uninterrupted power supply daily in Enugu that will make UNEC have a 21-hour power supply when it's added to the 4 hours (7-11 pm) of the gen set.

It happened 2015/2016.

PROTEST: UNN Students Protest Over Epileptic Power Supply

The Student Union Government of the University of Nigeria Enugu Campus (UNEC) on Monday effected its directive to students to stay away from lectures to protest months of near absence of electric power supply in the university.

This coming as the students prepares for the 2015/2016 second semester academic session examinations.

LEADERSHIP correspondent reports that the whole lectures halls in the university were under unlock as early as 6:00am on Monday with inscription: SUG UNEC, No Light, No Lectures, Keep Off!!!

In a statement issued to students on Sunday, the SUG President, Emmanuel Ebuka Nwankwo had urged students to comply with the directive to draw management’s attention to their plight.

Nwankwo said the “outcome of the meeting between the the executive council, speaker and principal officers of the House of Representatives, the  principal officers of the Senate, the DSP, the chief judge and all the judges, all faculty and departmental presidents, fellowship presidents, hall governors, class representative and indeed all the student stakeholders  has led us to arrive at the conclusion that it is time to revive the aluta spirit.”

He lamented that the union was tired of management’s nonchalant attitude to the issue even after several dialogues.

“With exams drawing closer and the seeming continuing non-chalance of the university management the SUG in collaboration with university stakeholders is declaring a one week sit at home protest,” Nwankwo said in the statement.

According him, “We have been quiet for far too long. It is time we take our fate into our hands. There would be no lectures, no exams, no posting, nothing until we get power.”

“This movement begins Monday 6th and it cannot succeed without your help. United we stand, divided we fall. From today onwards our motto is ‘LET THERE BE LIGHT!,” the statement added.

Thr 2016 protest made the school authority fix the electricity generators which were unstable then. Before then, there was near absence of light at the UNEC. This news corroborated my earlier comments.

However, I only made a mistake in writing that there was no generator before. I just saw now that the epileptic power supply was due to the non-functional generators.

I'm no longer embittered about the UNN's unfair treatment to me in my pursuit to study dentistry there. After all, I'm happy that I'm studying medicine now. God knows the best even though I wasted financial resources, time and years at UNN. It's all to God's glory. However, I must say the truth.

overpopulation will always be a problem in med school. I guess UNN will not learn until they lose accreditation like uniport did in 2011 then they had to stop admitting for 2 yrs. Today the class that started after the 2 years hiatus is not upto 70 with good class experience and hands on clinical experience due to lower population. So UNN should beware what they are getting into.

This news is a reminder that there were no standby generators prior to 2016, unlike your own account.

I still maintain that the 2016 protest made the school authority install standby generators. Before then, there was near absence of light at the UNEC. This news corroborated my earlier comments.

I'm no longer embittered about the UNN's unfair treatment to me in my pursuit to study dentistry there. After all, I'm happy that I'm studying medicine now. God knows the best even though I wasted financial resources, time and years at UNN. It's all to God's glory. However, I must say the truth.
Let me answer you this last time, you can choose to believe what you want.

UNEC had issues with power supply. Generator time was now reduced from 7pm-12midnight to 8pm-10pm everyday. So it was more or less a total blackout for students.

Students had to wait till 8pm before they could do anything with power. While Nsukka Campus was enjoying enough power from PHCN and with generator time of 7pm-10pm.

After the protest, we were all sent home. Forced to pay reparation fee. While the School repaired PHCN, increased generator time from 8pm-10pm to 7pm-11pm.
Note: There was generator before the protest but it was almost useless! Just 2hrs each day.

Imagine you now saying UNEC do not have generator, a campus as old as UNN itself. cheesy

Even within that period, Medical students at Old site protested for the school to install WiFi or remove the fee from their school fees.

In all sha, we are good mandeyy.
Thank God you have found happiness in the path you decided to follow

You can choose to believe whatever you like too. However, according to this news, there was near absence of light at UNEC in 2016.

As for standby generators, I've realized that they existed before then, but they were unstable coupled with erratic electricity supply by the PHCN.

I'm not the writer of this news.
