stay tuned to the channel,we will dissect the cost and expenses to start up a tomato farm and we have our scales ready to weigh everything that comes out,so we can have a very clear picture of the Dynamics of tomato farming.also I have a feeling that a well managed tomato farm can rival a cucumber farm in terms of revenue generated considering the cost of tomatoes around my Axis, let's not jump to conclusions only time will tell.
this one doesn't need debate, tomato done at the right time will supercede cucumbers in terms of profitability. Imagine about 200 Padma F1 plants surely giving you a Cameroon basket twice a week( it was sold at between 7-9k at some point here), the only issue is that tomato is less forgiving if done wrongly, and you need 90+ days to hit the market from the day you sow the seeds

1) it's a light green cucumber unlike cu999, cu986 is the lighter version
2) I don't know about its marketability beyond the Akwa Ibom, cross river, and Rivers state
3)it produces more than 10 fruits if managed properly, though they are smaller compared to others
4)It's a self pollinating like cu999
5)It may take more than 120 fruits
6) Murano and greengo are not accepted at all around Akwa Ibom, don't know about Rivers state, even cu99 is not acceptable during the rainy season over here.
Sir thank you once again for your response!
Please, from your experience, how many total number of bags can be harvested from 50g or 1,000 or 2,000 seeds of saira cucumber?

I completely agree with you. Was asking a customer at the market how much they buy a basket and she said it's N20k. Although they expect northern tomatoes to flood the market sooner.

I believe tomato harvest that'll start coming out at the onset of raining season will get premium price.

We are testing the tomatoes waters with one feet at a time, the time to make a killing vwith it in the southeast is from may to October the prices can go as high as #30k per basket and our next planting will cover that period,if all goes as planned.

are you trying to make me believe that 200 Padma crops can give two baskets a week, hmm,I am wary, this is too good to be true, something that have potential will no doubt have a devastating pitfalls and landmines waiting for the farmer that is carried away with the yield expectations

the Cameroon basket is way smaller than the Hausa basket, and Boss, I have cultivated tomato twice this year...it was really good!

I know this is a cucumber thread but it must be expanded to accommodate other veggies instead of opening a new thread I have decided to share my tomato adventure to my fellow farmers so we will be properly guided we have grown different vegetables over the years but tomatoes has been a no go area for virtually every farmer in my location for reasons I can't tell,so now after digesting information from threads from jethro, obataobi, farmerakinloye ,jidestroud and others,we have taken the plunge and was assisted with Padma F1 seeds from cedaagrochemicals,it will be a test on 2-3 plots,if it works,a big IF,we will expand to an acre,

local farmers in my area are planting the local variety now,no manure,no fertilizer,no irrigation,no pesticide, talk of fungicides, but it survives, thrives and yields,so we will tackle will by first treating the soil and using drip irrigation for consistent moisture.

I read somewhere that bleach helps to kill off some bacteria,so we will use bleach and furadan to treat the soil

bleach isn't effective, furadan is a better option...I am trying to remember the name of a soil treatment/nematicide I was told to use by a big farmer, he applies through the drip tapes and it's effective. Control nematodes on your tomato/pepper farm, and you have solved 30% of your challenges

if you want to know how effective ash is, just burn a section of the debris in your farm, and observe the difference between the ash enhanced soil even after many months compared to the best manure application, the only challenge is having the non-leached ash it in large quantities...ash has higher Ca,P,K values , but manure improves the soil organic matter quality, slowly releases nutrients and improves water retention capacity

we can get export quantities of Ash from an oil mill nearby,Ash and nematicide is now the soil treatment for now until another good info comes in

So can we substitute poultry manure with oil palm ash Or we use the both simultaneously?

U're right. Ash is good if used correctly. Another thing that contributed to the superior growth is that the heat from the fire kill off all microbes - both good and bad ones. So the plant will not be slowed down by bad microbes (nematodes, pathogenic bacteria and fungi etc). People can read more about using ash here:

Don't use bleach because they contain sodium which is bad for plants in large quantity. When I will tackle tomato, I intend warming the soil in a large drum. But note that exceeding a certain temperature will cause the soil to release some toxic chemicals that will kill plant. I have forgotten the recommended temperature range (82°C) but u can google it. Using well prepared compost will also help. Vermicompost and compost tea will be super good.
