The US doesn't have veto powers in the AFDB like they do the WTO. So unless the backers of Okonjo can replace her with another candidate acceptable to the US, her appointment will not take effect. They will appoint a caretaker to oversee the body until the next US president Biden takes office and makes a decision.

The US does not have a veto in WTO.

WTO appoints a consensus candidate, and if any member State opposes the consensus candidate even Nigeria or Ghana or any country can oppose a candidate, to resolve this; WTO can force a vote and still elect the consensus candidate.

Trump wants to leave WTO, just as he left WHO and other international organization and he wins second term and does that, that will be a huge win to China and to the detriment of US farmers.

Guy, are you leaving in a man cave? Trump appoint by merit?

The same guy that appointed 21 Judges into lifetime seats having an ABA ratings of NOT QUALIFIED! Some of them, have not even trial a single case in their entire life, their only experience is been picked by the Federalist Society, a conservative group that vets his nominees.

Trump & the GOP have bitter against WTO, since the WTO Appellant court ruled against the US that their sanctions against China were illegal...Just like Trump left the Paris Accord, WHO, Iran Deal and many host of other international organizations, they are planning to leave WHO....and he has been blocking the appointment of Judges to WHO, therefore hindering progress of trade cases in that court...blocking NOI is another off-shoot of that fight.

This time around WHO member States are standing tall, because they have seen the negative effect of Trump blockage on Judges is doing....Getting a consensus candidate was how they have been doing things before now and they are willing to stand by NOI and are even taking of forcing a final vote, which Trump cannot do anything about.....Even the countries that did not vote for NOI were in against the US opposing her as the consensus candidate after getting the highest votes.

Your other rhetoric are laughable and does not deserve a response.

Some Nigerians can talk. Have they voted? When are they going to force the final vote? Does it mean China don't have a voice at WTO? The woman being an Asian and Trade War between China and US might be the reason why China has been silent. Candidate with American passport may be used by China as excuse for refusal to sign trade treaties that favour US in future.

The worse part " Trump love the world" for real? Trump would always says every leaders should look over their citizens while he looks over Americans.
BreconHills:

"Trump loves the world" hahaha you must be on some good stuff.

- so he dropped out of Paris climate change accord because he loves the carbon energy industry more
- tried to impose American second-hand clothing on Rwanda instead of allowing them to develop their own garment industries
- Tried to block the re-election of Adesina over at the AfDB
- the percentage of blacks dying from covid is higher than any other racial group
- in the second quarter of this year the US economy shrunk by 32%

I don't know where you Trump lovers get this stuff.

Here is a man who inherited all his money, declared bankruptcy several times to avoid paying his tax and currently pays less tax than a US truck driver! He is personally responsible for loans and other debts totaling $421 million, with most of it coming due within four years" and no obvious way to repay them.

Oh and just in case you are thinking he is on your side against Islamic militants - He is the man who knew that Russia was paying bounties to the Taleban to kill American troops in Afghanistan and did not only do nothing but became the personal poodle to the Putin.

Trump is for Trump and you are on your own fella

Don't be surprised, you may not even find anything about WTO's DG on their websites. The Korean woman was never involved in all these EU and intercontinental lobbying. The Social Media propaganda is never their character.

Korean by nature and most of the countries in East Asia are very reserved and reticent and not given to propaganda. They are people of few words. Their work speak for them. Good thinking, good product. US forced words out of China. They don't make noise.

they better be quiet with all the foreign aid and military weapons they received from the broke united states throughout the decades after the korean war. but i give their leaders leaders credit for building up their country and not looting the proceeds like some others we know real well.

"South Korea now sustains a prosperous economy and contributes to foreign assistance worldwide. The United States' $35 billion investment in economic foreign assistance has helped the Republic of Korea (ROK), once one of the poorest nations, become the world's 12th largest economy.Jul 7, 2017. "

What exactly is your point? What do you mean by “no need to hit the polity”? And why do you have to quote the entire story?
you heard me well. don't derail the thread here. US delegates opposed AFDB President , Akinwumi Adesina, at the end, he won that seat back. another US delegates in WTO I
opposed Okonjo Iweala, she will win that seat back
too. she has highest number of votes cast for her nomination.

Your submission is the needless heat. Fact is that BBC reported that the US was making frantic effort to stop NOI despite the fact that she holds US citizenship. It is ironical that US is backing a non-US citizen against a US citizen. The issue is that Africans are taking strategic positions in the world economy and polity..... and as such African interests will be protected, projected and becomes stronger. That is why FG and other African leaders swung into action to make sure NOI's lead preserved and win confirmed.

I’m sure you prefer NOI to lose the DG election than for her to win and Buhari taking the credit. Goes to show the level of your patriotism. Smh!

Zombies shut up your stinking mouth. Buhari has no effect whatsoever in NOI's success and achievement. When she wins (of course she will), buhari has no moral ground to claim credit because NOI's antecedents and track record of successes spoke for her and not one dead buhari whose waec credentials cannot be verified.

Bros,

It is more that a "let the best candidate win". For me it is about who will project and protect Africa's interest. Akinwunmi has been doing wonderfully well. He is getting funding into critical sectors in Africa - Agric, Power for starters. For example, why will global chocolate business be in trillions of Dollars, and Africa where the largest export comes from cannot benefit 1% of the value return

Best assessment of Trump FROM A NIGERIAN so far! It bewilders me HOW AFRICANS have their head BURIED DEEPLY in the Rectum of the MOST RACIST President of the USA and the funny thing is that Trump doesn't EVEN hide it ! What is Wrong with the Black African? I have been voting in the US since 1990 and I have a FLUENT understanding of happening being that I served in the National Guard and I am also involved in law enforcement in the American system. Its REALLY disturbing HOW some foolish Africans have inserted Trump into the calculus of God's plan for the World......leave that to God! Expletive-talking Trump is far from being a Christian either!

All this effort just to help Nigerian conglomerate Dangote to have advantages internationally.

If i were NOI, i would just go back to the US and teach or help useful African countries. All this effort will only benefit Dangote because they now have a way to manipulate the WTO to their advantage.
