IPPIS: FG Paid Some Professors N8,000 As Monthly Salary – Abiodun Ogunyemi by nairavsdollars(f): 8:29pm On Oct 29, 2020
Temidayo Akinsuyi, Lagos

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Thursday said it is yet to call off its ongoing strike because the federal government has made a smooth negotiation very impossible.

Disclosing this on Channels Television programme ‘Politics Today’ monitored by Daily Independent , the national body of the university lecturers, led by its President, Prof. Abiodun Ogunyemi said that they are waiting for the government to conduct an integrity test on the University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS), a homegrown payment platform created by ASUU in place of the government’s Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).

Ogunyemi said due to the IPPIS structure, some university lecturers are losing up to 70 percent of their salaries while some professors received N8,000 as monthly salaries for several months.

He also accused the federal government of reneging on agreements with the union since 2013 including frustrating the plan by ASUU to introduce an alternative payment system for university lecturers.

While calling for the understanding of students and their parents, he said that as far as they are concerned, they don’t have any issue with going back to work, but they want more sincerity on the side of government.

“People are losing about 50 to 70 percent of their salaries. In fact, there were professors that were paid about N8,000 in some months in our campuses. So, we don’t expect something otherwise because that platform is not meant for the university system”.

“I believe our students and their parents will understand. If we have lecturers that have not been paid for eight, nine months, how can we have that person putting in their best into the system? If people are going back to the universities and they will be paid half or less of their usual salaries, how can we cope with that?”

“And salary is not the only issue like I said, there were allowances that were discussed; there was the issue of the salary scale. If we have been on the same salary structure for 11 years, I think our members have the right to say ‘No, that cannot happen. Government has made it difficult for smooth negotiation”.

It will be recalled that ASUU embarked on an industrial action about eight months ago across the country, following its dispute with the Federal Government over their insistence on the implementation of the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) in the payment of University lecturers’ salaries and allowances.

Alternatively, ASUU developed a homegrown payment platform, UTAS, which they believe guarantees the autonomy of the university.

The government should do their part.

It is not difficult if greed and insincerity are not in the picture.

All these events in the world are similar to birth pangs. The world is in labour.... because change is coming.

A new kingdom is coming. Jesus is coming to reign.

He is coming in fury to punish the unjust and the wicked.

I have hope of eternity with him. I will not be punished but rather, I will be rewarded.

Why?

Because he took my place on the cross. I Acknowledged this and I do whatever he asks me to do.

You?

Run......The Cup of fury of the almighty is full... ready to be poured.

In the new kingdom, I will participate.

You?

Don't deceive yourself. If you don't accept his sacrifice, obey and do his will, you are condemned already.

I didn't say this. Jesus did.

Why is it that you people keep saying what you know nothing about?
Sabbatical is a legal entitlement of any academics from Senior upward. Visiting is subjected to the approval of the from and to University and also from Senior upward but mainly for Profs!
University law of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is here and you too can read it: https://laws.lawnigeria.com/2018/04/19/lfn-universities-miscellaneous-provisions-act-1993-no-11/
If you see any lecturer or University that violates that law, you a free to sue such to court!

Bros, you know no shit!
Nobody can do those functions at the same time: when you are on sabbatical, you can not be on visiting. You are either on sabbatical or you manage visiting but definitely you can be visiting more than one Universities at a time! There is no way you can combine sabbatical and visiting together at the same time, that is impossible.
An adjunct lecturer is a contract lecturer and usually a retired Prof or any other retired civil servant found to be useful could be appointed.

Yes of course! And mind you, if you visit, you will only be given a sealed salary of around #100k! And this is the reason why some lecturers go to as many places as they could, so they could accumulate #100k!

They are paid based on their competence, skills and experience. Bolded one is once in seven years, two is when a university lacks a speciality in a particular field of study. Bolded three might be in a private university where he receives a certain amount

I would like to k ow exactly why ASUU is against IPPIS.
This same platform is being used to pay almost every other FG employee. It is flexible enough to accommodate the peculiarities of lecturers. It is being used in hospitals, esp teaching hospitals where many of the doctors there are lecturers and also visit other hospitals.

If you state the reasons, I will respond
