You can never hear a politician being owed a salary for just sitting in an air conditioned office and signing checks, but a lecturer who stands and shout for at least 5 hours per day in a week will still be owed his meager salary. It's time for us to go back into the street and sit this politicians down with our voices.... Nigerian government only listen to violence not peace.

If you believe this lies, you can believe anything.
It's very true, I'm a university lecturer and 60k was removed from my salary through this same IPPIS when we were forced into it, now I'm currently servicing a bank loan and a mortgage, my take home is now less than 20k why the civil service rules says I most go home with atleast 1/3 of my salary. Now if not that I'm doing a few consultancy jobs, I would have died of hunger by now. IPPIS is a mess, our pecularities were not captured. Believe it or not, if this issue is not addressed the brain drain Nigeria will experience next year would be alarming. 5 of my colleagues are already on their way out,how can Uganda pay a professor about 1.8m naira and we are paid peanuts here?
I know some will say we should not leave the system, our own don too much, but remember the greenhorns that will be employed would not have any form of mentorship from seasoned academics, and our educational institutions will be producing unreliable graduates that can't stand their own.
Remember ASUU is not just talking about our renumeration but also the terrible and deplorable learning environment our students find theirselves in.

[quote author=sinkhole post=95479488]Why is it that you people keep saying what you know nothing about?
Sabbatical is a legal entitlement of any academics from Senior upward. Visiting is subjected to the approval of the from and to University and also from Senior upward but mainly for Profs!
University law of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is here and you too can read it: https://laws.lawnigeria.com/2018/04/19/lfn-universities-miscellaneous-provisions-act-1993-no-11/
If you see any lecturer or University that violates that law, you a free to sue such to court![/quote

Don't mind them]

ChiefS:

It negates the law governing Universities. The principle of autonomy which took ASUU many years of strike . It does not capture the peculiarities of lecturers. Lecturers have specific allowances that support publishing in journals and attending conferences. A lecturer is expected not only to teach but do research which should be published in journals and presented at conferences. The cost of publishing in local journals range between 35 and 100k. While open access international journals cost between $1,000 and $2,500. This he does using his lean salary. No lecturer is promoted without having a good number of publications in local and international journals. The mantra in academics is "publish or perish".

Those attributing lecturers' rejection of IPPIS to their visiting status to other universities are not aware that the lecturers that serve as visiting lecturers are mostly visiting lecturers to private and state universities which are NOT on IPPIS. So it is impossible for IPPIS to detect it.

Also, IPPIS does not take into consideration other peculiarities like visiting lecturers from foreign universities whose services are required to support some departments that need their expertise. Universities all over the world don't operate in isolation.

since the universities have laws governing them, let them pay themselves using internally generated funds they dont remit anywhere

It's funny when I read stuffs like this, the educational sector is not run like that, if not the poor won't be able to afford education, but if it comes down that no problem. I just hope the parents of the students would be willing pay the hefty cost that will be saddled on them.

Not a lie.
The professors who registered on IPPIS are crying right now.
They can't cope.
Many of them are close to retiring.
If you don't know, ask before you make judgements.

A lecturer I earning 5,800 from Feb 2020 till his salary was stopped in July can attest.

Another federal parastatal worker on IPPIS has been pursuing her salary of November last year till date.
Worst is you have to go to Abuja to lodge complaints.
If you can't afford hotel accommodation for at least 2 days or know anybody you can put up with
OYO na your case.

Exactly

Then Let them enroll to the IPPIS just like the others

Government can't be paying its employees on their terms when they don't even generate nada for the Govt.

I'm in the system, some of my colleagues were paid N3,886 (Three thousand eight hundred and eighty six naira) as Lecturer II and N5000 (Five thousand naira) as professors. The IPPIS thing is a mess. They just don't pay us so that they have huge fund to embezzle and also claim they are saving huge amount for government. They simply save ur salary for government, crazy right? If you pple support this govt to kill education, the only thing saving the poor and middle class in Nigeria, ur children will become almajiris in future cos they can't afford the exorbitant charges by private varsities

Oga, go to those countries that you feel will appreciate you more, but if you are to remain here then you have to join IPPIS to ensure transparency. How anyone can be against transparency beats me.

Keep quiet if you have nothing to say..it's true that some professors have not been paid for months..is that not worse than getting 8k per month?how can a professor not get paid for months, and we have illiterates in government that collect millions for doing nothing?it's so unfair.. sadly,it's because the federal government have little or no regards for our educational systems.
You mean the professors that have been sitting at home for months should be getting paid?

If they want salaries, they should resume.
