For example, Bill Clinton was succeeded by Bush when American economy was turning record numbers in performance, then Obama inherited economy in recession, Trump came in after a series of huge upturns in economy during Obama, and the trend continues.

The fact that Trump successfully pulled USA out of Paris agreement on climate change will make it hard for the country to lead global consensus on any key issues going forward. If USA can pull out of Paris agreement, it means any policy implemented by Democrats can be easily undone by Republican when they took charge. Paris's was a totally bipartisan agreement aimed to save mother earth from the danger of climate change.
