Oga you people should stop embarrassing igbos... Let this minority group rest. They re not igbos both gej and wike and their tribe re not igobs and igbos do not need them to be relevant. Stop this nonsense

bros,
next time you may want to read before you reply,
your comment shows that you did not read what I wrote or maybe you didn't understand it, you can go back and read it and then tell me what I said there that is an embarrassment to igbos, we have time and space, that is if you are igbo at all,
did you you see anywhere I said JONATHAN is igbo? and I am interested in wherever wike claims to come from, and it's not for you to decide whether ikwere is igbo or not, oh I forgot you didn't read it, but you should stop thinking with your fingers, use your brain sometimes instead,

I will restrain from cursing and insulting igbos because i have so many fine well behaved people that are igbos. However the criminal elements amongst them are drowning the voices of the good people amongst them. The criminals amongst them like to trade in criminality, confussions, lies and war. If you give them the war, they will run away, cry to UN, WHO etc and complain. ZIK warned against fighting and wanted peaceful resolution, he was called a hausa mumu, Alex Ekwueme, a fine brilliant gentleman was called a hausa houseboy. Okorocha is called Okoro hausa, Ngige is called Sultan houseboy, now Wike is also a Buhari sellout. However, they will worship and follow hate filled, coward, useless lying Nnamdi Kanu that up till this moment he cannot even fulfil his promise and show his empty headed followers evidence of Buhari as Jubril El sudani. I flinch at the rubbish and lies they share amongst themselves as evidence of everyone against them. Buhari, Wike, Obama's govt, Nigerian Army, Police, Airforce, Yoruba people, Hausas, Fulani, South Africans, Indians, all, are jealous of them and against their Biafra and their progress, can you imagine that mindset and mentality? Yet they did not do anything wrong oh. I feel for my level headed igbo friends truly. They are a fine set of people and i am embarrassed how they got entangled with these bunch of moronic fools.

I will print this comment and paste it on my wall.

Congratulations to Onyesom Ezebunwo Wike son of Nlemanya Wike and his own group among the Ikweres.
They're the first group on earth to derive their ethnicity from state creation cos b4 1976 state creation, there was no tribe known as Ikwere.
Ikweres were just a subgroup of the Igbos just like Nsukka or Abakaliki ppl.

Modified.
It is heartwarming to see Wike is suddenly the darling of yerobber Muslims.
Is awa God not a wonderful God? grin grin grin[/quote

People like you is the reason we Rivers State of Igbo origin always say we are not Igbo because you think the few states in geopolitical expression called south east is original Igbo.

Ikwerre is not the original name of that tribe european Igbo interpreter created that name. Ahoada, Ogba and Alaka are three sons of one man. Alaka is the group you call ikwerre. Igbo is a big tribe not just in NIGERIA but across West African region.

People from the eastern NIGERIA should stop ownership of Igbo are claiming every Igbo tribe came from them while in the real season people in eastern NIGERIA came from where every Igbo tribe came from. So wike simply don't want to be identified with south east.

There is nothing like THE IGBOID LANGUAGE. You are being derailed by the "Igbo" in Igboid". For your information English is a Germanic language but that is another story

The point is The term "Igboid" was introduced by Kay Williamson the foremost research authority on Igbo linguistic studies before her death.
Igboid is a family of languages which include Ikwerre and several Igbo dialects according to a classification established by Kay Williamson.
By a similar token English German and Dutch are Germanic languages.

Does that make the English or Americans German?

Does it make Nigerians German?
So according to you Ikwerre is part of the igboid family but only Ikwerre is not igbo among all the other igboid family.

Funny you
I wonder why you wrote the truth up there and still try to twist it just to feel happy

So I can start introducing myself now as chinedu Okafor from Benin.

Hope I wouldn't look stupid with such introduction

I met an Etche man sometime ago in Yenagoa. He needed a favor from me and he identified himself as Igbo from Etche. Somehow I could tell from his countenance that he didn't really believe I would accept him as an Igbo man... Probably because of the continuous denial they're known for. Truth is most times when they're in foreign territory, they choose to identify as Igbos because it serves their interest and gives them a sense of belonging. The Ijaw people in Bayelsa do not know what is Ikwerre or what is Etche. ALL OF THEM ARE IGBOS... Kapish!
what language do Etche people speak?
plain Igbo or ikwerre?

Between Igwe Achebe's yesterday story and Zik's grandmother's yesteryear story which is more credible considering the current political dynamics and geographical location Igwe Achebe finds himself.

Zik's grandmother stressed that Chime was a Benin prince, he carried the Benin royal blood, nobody can be more Benin than that. It may interest you to know that some of the names considered Igbo names today such as, Amadin, ugo, Eze, Okoro and the name of Onitsha must revered shrine Udo were all ancient Benin names, people and places still bear these names in Benin.

The present Igbo land was actually part of old Benin empire.

The fact that the white Americans are proud to be Americans doesn't deny them their various European heritages and lineages.

So Chime sounds Bini to you?
What about Eze too? That sound Bini too? grin

Igbo language varies from kingdom to kingdom and from place to place.

As it moves down to the Atlantic that is how the variation and adulterations are introduced

Ikwerre not being Igbo all depends on the Ikwerre you meet. An Ikwerre man and former Governor, Chibuike Amaechi, will tell the whole world that he is an Igbo man. Another Ikwerre Governor like Wike will say he is not Igbo

Meanwhile, an Ikwerre man called Uche Okwukwu is Ohanaeze Secretary general while another Ikwerre man called Elechi Amadi wrote a book to say Ikwerres are not Igbos

You meet an Ikwerre man, he says he is Igbo. You meet another Ikwerre man, he says he is Bini. You meet the third Ikwerre man, he says he is neither Igbo or Bini, he is just Ikwerre. Confusion everywhere!

Its for Ikwerres to go and sort out whatever identity crisis that has engulfed them

You seem to embrace fallacy more than factual facts. I guess Yoruba people are colorful story tellers. They simply can turn a mere wrestling match into a momentous war. By the way, how many people were the so-called Abiriba to hunt the mass people of Igbo? There is no cowardice in Igbo man. Abiriba is a tiny part of Igbo people.

Language doesn't determine ancestry.

Black Americans speak in English but that doesn't make them genetically Caucasian.

Which is exactly what I said. Ikwerre speak Igbo but their ancestry isn't necessarily Igbo.

There's the Eze family in Benin with various branches. They goes by the morning greetings Lavi-Eze. All established Benin families have morning greetings that identify them and also have chiefs that represents them in the Palace. Why single out two names from the list I gave you.

The people that left Benin took with them names and cultures you guys are now claiming, including the names of your market days and titles of some of Obi of Onitsha chiefs, including the Obi's title himself, Agboghidi, his sceptre are all Benin in origin.

Some have argued that Chime was actually Ikhimwin which the Igbos they met in their new land pronounced Chime. The Igbonization of Benin names and words are not peculiar to the eastern expansion of the old Benin empire, most Benin original names and settlements in Lagos were also Yorubanized.

Why do you stake everything to make Igbo remain in one Nigeria with you against their interest?

Why do you put everything to have oil producing rivers and others distanced from the Igbo if not your criminal ploys to have the oil producing areas become tiny for your easier exploitation?

All the Igbo ask is a plebiscite for what they ask for. Why are you afraid of plebiscite, the best instrument of democracy? After the plebiscite, you can have Wike and his Ikwerre if they refuse Igbo. But be rest assured that the oil producing areas in the SS can not remain with rest of Nigeria for one month without the Igbo.

There is no such historical classification of people as Igbo. before the creation of Nigeria.

The Pan Igbo identity is a creation of Nigeria

Aros sold many people who tday would be "Igbo" as slaves through Calabar and never saw those they sold as their people

So what?, Slavs, Greeks, Hausa etc. Fought each other and sold each other into slavery even while they had unified cultural identities, so Aro slaving isn't evidence of anything.

But you are kind of right, but only kind of. Igbo speaking peoples have for a very long time been identified as one group, even though the individual clans would identify more with their clans, the same dynamic happened historically with the Romans and Germanic tribes.

As such many people local and foreign identified the Igbo speaking people as a group even though the won't all have necessarily have done so themselves. But the manifestation of the Igbo ethnicity as a coherent tribe is also an Igbo decision not an imposition, few decades before independent, Igbo scholars educated in the western model went around telling their won people how the outside world saw them Igbo speaking peoples as one ethnicity and the rest is history.

Also the Hegemonies of Nri and later of Aro would influnece primarily and almost all of the peoples today considered Igbo.

So Igbo identity didn't come out of no where even if it wasn't as coherent before.
