good you know the answer by yourself from the way you presented the Post!

Your Soul is your church, Your mind, heart, person, and your personal relationship with God is what matters

and as i always say, being spiritual is best and far better than being religious, cuz religion is only for this world but spirituality is eternal

So today(Sunday) I decided to stay at home because of yesterday's wedding I attended. Not that I don't go to church but I came back home yesterday feeling very tired, even till this morning.

A neighbour saw me this morning and was like "Bros, you no go church today?" I tried to make him understand why but he kept on telling me how it's wrong not to go to church and stuff.

So the question on my mind today is, why do people tag others who "miss" Sunday service as sinners?

The right intentions are very straight forward..

Church is a place where you seek the face of the almighty.
A place for worship and prayers..
You can't have the mentality of showcasing whatever that you've got other than your heart and the entirety of your whole being..
Capisce!!

Alright, well said. How was church today then? Hope you went with the intention of worshipping and praying?

Wrong. According to the Catholic doctrine, missing holy mass on Sundays and the other holy days of obligation without a valid reason is a Mortal sin

I haven't attended church service since March before the lockdown Mainly because i have not seen a critical thinking Christian church.

All the churches around my side are too religious and devoid of critical thinking, no spiritual empowerment,no humanism nothing

Reasons why not being a member of the one true church and forsaking the assembling of the saints is wrong;

1. If the church wasn't important to one's salvation, there wouldn't have been prophecies about the establishment of the church. Isaiah 2: 1-3, Daniel 2:44, Joel 2: 28-30.

And also the fufillment of these prophecies in Matthew 16: 17-19, Luke 24: 49, Acts 2: 1- 47.
Remember that these prophecies were written thousands of years ago before the coming of those who partook in the fulfillment of these prophecies.

2. If the church wasn't important to one's salvation, Our Lord Jesus Christ wouldn't have purchased the church with His blood. Acts 20:28

3. If the church wasn't important to one's salvation, the apostles wouldn't have established churches in jerusalem, corinth, Galatians, Thessalonians and so on.

4. If the church wasn't important to one's salvation, which kingdom will Jesus Christ deliver to His father as documented in I Corinthians 15:24? Definitely Christ wouldn't pick random people who claim to be his disciple but those true disciples in the church he established.

5. If the church wasn't important to one's salvation, paul wouldn't have used the love Christ has for the church as a standard for the love expected from husbands and wives. Ephesians 5: 23-25.

Heb 10:25 warns us not to forsake the assembling of the saints, because we assemble to edify, exhort, and motivate one another onto good works. It is just like the gas station where a car goes to refuel, the assembling of the saints is a gathering that true christians should always be part of, in order to refilled to battle the turmoils of life and eventually make heaven.

One of the Commandments of God is keeping the Sabbath Day Holy. How do we do that? If out of all other days we are enjoined just set aside one day for God, then, anything that stops us from going to meet God in His temple is ungodly and condemnable. Well except in cases of very cogent reasons such as severe sickness amongst others.

Do not subscribe to the opinions of those telling you that not going to church is not a sin. When we come closer to God's temple we commune with Him and He gives us the graces we need to prevail over the snares of the evil ones. Even the Devil knows this hence making most Christian see church as unfashionable and have serious attachments to being in church to flaunt flamboyant dressings, with the poorly dressed one sometimes evading going to churches for such trivial reasons as that. Christ Himself instructed the Disciples to stay together and pray and this they were doing when the Holy Spirit descended on them. Their togetherness is what culminated to church.

So church simply a gathering of the faithful. We should strive to be in God's House and with the right intentions and focus often, while still on earth that we may be accepted into His kingdom in the afterlife!

Technically a church is only a building. Christians believe the creator lives everywhere.

And frankly, many people avoid church not out of lack of faith, but because of problems with the congregation and religious leaders. People shouldn't be asking if it's a sin, they should be asking how they can improve service. Often our churches are maybe too social, or social in a bad way (and in conflict with the teachings of the religion). Most people just want to hear the word, study it, and receive guidance. Are churches doing this effectively?

Also, we live in times when people work harder, and have more on their plate, so many choose alternatives like podcasts, YT, and/or independent study. Maybe more churches and leaders need to adapt.

Those that shame sound out-of-touch and even a little suspect, like they want money or attention rather than to act as a religious leader, or like they care more about things other than religious pursuits.

That said, we have to remember the role church plays in strengthening communities, and helping people spiritually, or in other ways. A major part of that is gathering for worship. No one should be shamed. Encourage and support. Make them appreciate the strength gained from others.

ETA: I'm not sure if the Bible calls it a sin to not go, but clearly it describes it as important.

If keeping the Sabbath Holy, an old covenant commandment is what you intend to do on your Sundays, then instead of subscribing to the opinions of men and so-called men of God, you would do exactly what God Himself commanded the Israelites to do on that day. If you were to open your bible, you would see that God commanded them to basically lay down - do no chores, do not go out, do any laundry - do near nothing for that whole day.

Your attending church service on your sabbath days is in direct disobedience to God's own commandment on keeping the sabbath, so instead of looking for those to preach to, I suggest you first teach yourself to stop following after the opinions and ways of men, choosing instead to obey God's commandment as stipulated by God Himself.

Your points are very logical but permit me to say that Jesus Christ did went to Church(Temple/Synagogue) though it wasn't known as church then.

He was a Jew, who worshipped Judaism Faith, and believed so much in the Torah (Book of Abraham).

You remembered Him reasoning/arguing with the elders in one of the book of the gospel, that he stayed back in the temple when His parents took him to the Synagogue in Jerusalem?

He did attended Church but not in the way people have made it seem these days.
exactly my point but again remember Jesus was angry for a reason in the bible and that was because the people in the synagogue turned it to a market place reminiscent of wat we have today ... Also the synagogue is in no way the same as the church as we know it.

Ask any jew and they will tell you.

In my oponion, The private jet buying while congregation languish in penury type churches of today does NOT reflect any christ like qualities .. They are just a business centre that had no shortage of sheep.
Re: Not Attending Church Every Sunday. Is It Such A Big Sin? by Cousin9999: 7:31pm On Nov 15, 2020
The Lord wants us as His people to catch a vision of the incomparable importance of the church in its role of revealing the risen, ascended Christ. In order to catch that vision, we must understand the significance of Christ’s incarnation.

1. Jesus Christ reveals God in human flesh. (3:16).
2. The church reveals Christ to the world (3:14-15).

Why is the church important? Because God has left it here to reveal His Son to the world, even as Jesus revealed God when He was on this earth. As the household of God, the church of the living God, the pillar and support of the truth, we are the current expression of Jesus Christ in the world until He comes. What a staggering job description! Nothing could be of greater importance! Maybe you’ve been turned off by bad experiences in churches that were institutional—where God dwelled only in name, but not in reality. You need to grasp a new vision of what God intends for His church, locally expressed, and commit yourself to this church. We need to make it happen right here, so that people will say, “I have seen the living God dwelling among His people.”

Are you certain Jesus Christ went into the synagogues to worship or to preach the Good News of His Kingdom - a completely different and separate belief- to those of the Old Covenant believers in God?

If you read carefully, each time Jesus Christ went into their synagogues to preach, it was to call them out of their synagogues, to a life in Him. In the Book of John, we are told of a case where Jesus Christ was almost thrown off a cliff by a mob from one of the many synagogues for teaching about His Kingdom to the people of the Old Covenant. For many of them, He was an apostate of the Old Covenant Way and deserving of death.

He did attended Church but not in the way people have made it seem these days.
When He was a child, He certainly lived according to the Old Covenant ways, but after He was baptized according to the New Covenant way, He no longer went to the Temple for worship purposes but instead called the Hebrews out from there to a life according to the New Covenant, which is a life in direct connection with God Himself - without middle-men and temples built by the hands of men.

The Bible didn't tell you any such. Paul, a man said something and you all took it to be law onto yourselves. God never told His people to do such, nor did Jesus Christ command any of His followers in such a manner.

God would rather you spend all that time you spend at church listening to and obeying Him instead since your church social gatherings have nothing to do with anything He commanded of you and spending time doing the things of man is not what He called you to do in His name.
