I think LinkedIn favours those with verifiable skills most especially in the IT or Engineering sector, other sections not so much. Fresh graduates with little to no experience hardly get job offers on LinkedIn.

This is not true, have a good profile and update it regularly, be a professional in your field, you will get tired of declining offers. Speaking from experience
In some ways he is right. If u are not an IT or an engineer or a doctor on LinkedIn it would be hard to even get an offer in 8 years living in Nigeria. Most of what happens there is bragging. Let's see how professional your profile is that u feel others saying otherwise aren't

My first job, I used LinkedIn to connect to the two principal partners. When I met them in person, I naturally flowed as if I knew them before.

My second job: I saw the ad on LinkedIn and followed through after it was recommended by a friend.

In between, I have been headhunted plenty times (I get up to three every year) and I also get invites to interview and jobs.

I also get request to recommend people or share within my professional network.

Does LinkedIn work? Yes it does but you'll need a good profile and you'll also need to always check the platform.

I wish I could. If I had the capacity I would have already linked someone by now.

Can you please link me up? I'm presently out of job. To think I spend most of my time on LinkedIn daily either networking or sending out applications.

At least on 3 different occasions, I have landed jobs with multinationals and bluechip organisations all from Linkedin.

Hardly will a month pass that I won't have recruiters both inside and outside the country poaching me for jobs.

I currently have 2 interviews scheduled with multinational companies that poached me via LinkedIn. Mind you, these are not even jobs I applied for.

Please take LinkedIn seriously if you are a job seeker or mid-level executive looking for better opportunities.

Connect with relevant professionals, use the right keywords, and share valuable content as often as you can.

You are right, it's a very useless platform where top guns only know how to intimidate others

Yes! Yes! Yes!

In 2018, someone who new someone who needed someone for his company saw my profile on LinkedIn.

My profile matched what the recruiter wanted!

So this person got my phone number from LinkedIn, set up a meeting for an interview...

And I got the job!!!

Anyone that can help me build my LinkedIn

You don't need anyone to do that for you...just go and create an account for yourself then input your qualifications and job experience.

After that you send out a few friend requests

Be sure to use a professional looking pic, don't post a pic of yourself drinking a bottle of bear at a party

Then do what you must.
In Nigeria when, you write CV and apply, your CV is normally placed amongst a pool of other local Nigerian CVs. It is possible that all of you will write same, way, use same paper, write same English. So whoever will pick your CV will also have seen all the other CVs first and yours isn't looking too different.

But LinkedIn is an "international" CV market. And everybody is selling themselves with their best gear. They will write heaven and earth on their CV and put every possible experience they have to impress Bill Gates or Jeff Bezzos if possible.

As a Nigerian, better learn to write your CV with international standard if you want to be better seen on LinkedIn.
...not all this name, age, sex... CV
