My first job after my final year exams was via LinkedIn.

I have gotten several interviews invites from LinkedIn.....................Early this year, I declined an offer from a global development consulting firm here in Lagos. The HR even asked me to recommend someone since I wasn't interested. The few individuals I tried to linked up with the job on LinkedIn only responded to my messages after a week grin

Like someone said earlier, you need a verifiable work experience and skills.

Mind you, I am in Admin function, but with skills across project management and data analytics.
Overseas, students take Industrial Training seriously.
Whatever they did in their IT is their work experience that they later put in their CV
In Nigeria, students joke about with their IT.
They don't bother to learn anything
Later, after graduation, when they start writing their CV, they complain that they don't have any work experience.
Their foreign counterparts with same education will get his job and move.

I have had 2 gigs on the platform.... Rejected an offer and couldn't attend the other interview.

I think LinkedIn is for all. Requires patience, having a nice profile and keeping up with recruiters & top-guns in desired field.

Employers have always contacted me, as a Software Developer with not so fantastic resume but good one. They do find me through linkedin search. Since I'm not interested in full time jobs, I don't usually take them seriously. Mostly foreign jobs.

please, how can one learn this software developing

Yeah, I have. Reached out to the Head of my current place of work via Linkedin, we got talking, I told him I was open to taking up a role . He asked me to send my CV, I did. A year and a half later, HR contacted me when there was a vacancy and the rest is history.

Yes. An HRM of a firm messaged me on seeing my profile. He asked if I would be available for an interview at his office...I got the job!
At that time I was even looking for ways to resign from my then-present job due to low pay and much stress but God did it for me effortlessly. You can have a nicely crafted LinkedIn profile, but you still need the grace of God, especially in this country that everything has turn upside down...

I tried opening a foreign (US) profile on LinkedIn...Omoh, e be like every week naim recruiter the message me for interview.

May God save us in this country.

Yes, I applied to a company called Linkeo Web Agencies in school then, and got called for interview but I was in Mauritius. worked there as PHP Developer. LinkedIn works but its a game of corporate elitism and your skillsets. Certain companies will put you on Recruiter's radar. If not certain skills will. If you're a Moodle Consultant self learned you're more likely to get offer when people query for Moodle. That's how I see it. I recently applied for a second freelance job a company in France, I would have gotten it, but I burnt out cry. However there are certain fields that have more advantage, we are in a new dynamics of the gig economy. Some jobs are gigs that pay well but are short term and contract. So you can do it on the side with your work, if you have the strength such jobs like Social Media Manager, Ux Designer, Content Writers, Audio Transcribers . LinkedIn now has alot of remote jobs too. LinkedIn works for me like mad than Glassdoot. Angeljobs too work, but you need to wash head in river, that one has never amounted to any offer. Upworks is another great avenue, from a gig work you can become a trusted staff and this can lead to more gigs and opportunities. Upworks is more consistent if you're looking for a job that rakes in a steady average of income, but again its based on your field. Soji o , no waste time for social media.

It's not simple path...that path is full of frustrations, headache, self doubt etc. Nothing is required except passion and will/zeal.

If you have those two, keep on finding your ways towards it, you'll eventually achieve it, if not, you'll quit in a short while.

If i may advise you on what to do to get started, then they are

1.) Get a good working laptop. No laptop? then you're not ready to get started yet
2.) Get resources(money) available, not much but enough to get regular internet subscription
3.) Get online courses, there are alot of them, both paid and free youtube courses.
4.) That's all... There's alot to learn. Wishing you all the best!

Honestly, I dunno why my fellow Nigerian youths failed to understand that job cannot make you wealthy but will only give you what to spend.
With 50k guys, you can start to grow in business like foodstuffs, clothing and jewelry.

I swear it down that if you try it you will regret ever carrying CV and building whatever LinkedIn profile for a job.
In business, you grow money not spending money.

Funny enough, most of these people who got jobs through LinkedIn have more money than you - Nairaland's prolific entrepreneur. For a start, how much do you have in your business account?

This is not true, have a good profile and update it regularly, be a professional in your field, you will get tired of declining offers. Speaking from experience

True for me.

Nothing in nigeria, great job outside nigeria in 3 months.

Considering the statistics of nogerians in nigeria on LinkedIn, their chances are DOA.

Theres a place called karimo in abuja with a very high density in population. When I went there for a survey I stayed In a hotel for a few weeks.

Karimo abuja lacks a supermarket.

Because of the low/ low middle-class nature of the residents what they engage in is petty trading and normal shop business.

There are something's that for u to get u have to visit like 5 different shops. Things that on a very good day u will get from a super market.

There's also gwarinpa, along kubwa road, I found out that they lack cyber cafe businesses.

In nigeria, the chances are 0.00001%.

Outside nigeria, the chances are very high.

commot for nigeria

This your analysis may not be true. I have gotten several job invites from LinkedIn . It just requires you updating your page with the right skills and what you can offer. When Employers search for some skills, if you have such skill on your profile, it will definitely pop up and you would be invited. Don't underestimate the power of good CV and profile on LinkedIn. It is not really good for fresh graduates without experience except the person is looking for internships.

I got my present job (with IBM UK) via LinkedIn. The recruiter called and asked if I would be interested in working for them. I was directed to the specific job on their website and asked to apply. The rest is history wink

So it's business that is guaranteed to make you wealthy? Yet there are several shops there with owners begging people to patronise them? Save this your business supremacy shit to yourself.

White collar jobs works for some. While business works for others. Irrespective of where you find yourself, learn to respect other people's choices.

If you are privileged to work with organisations like IOCs and multinationals like Google, Mastercard or Microsoft, you won't spill this trash of a write-up.

Like say no be capital they de use start up business. You think say na everybody get uncle to give am loan like Dangote?
