1. Cranky sounds when the car engine is started (someone said it might be timing chain or bad oil, haven’t fixed it tho)

2. The popular door ajar light.

Yes I will analyse all that your mechanic will do here, then he can read to comprehension and repair appropriately..

It's not timing chain at all, so he shouldn't waste time changing timing chain and spend unnecessarily. I have repaired all models of Ford produced from 1996 - 2018, I have never come across a stretched or damage timing chain like other vehicles, no matter any engine malfunction the chain undergone, overheating, bad oil, stuck adjuster what ever and what ever, the timing chain will still retain it's toughness properties of metal, this is one of the excellent reliability of Ford over other vehicles. so if 1996 Ford of 24 years in usage like, E- Series, Windstar, Explorer, Escusion, Ranger, etc chain didn't stretch, how much will 2012 model 3.5 litters engine stretch. The worst that could happen in that section is a stuck hydraulic adjuster due to bad oil/service ethics and broken chain plastic guide due to the flapping of metallic chain against the rail because of the clearance created by the stuck adjuster and this is just common to only the 4.0 engines with front and rear chain assemblies which is no more in production from 2010.

NOW TO CARRY OUT THE REPAIRS.
The actual problem of the Edge is Electronic Variable Valve Timing Sprocket (VVT). The sprocket is no more retaining oil pressure at long duration of engine off.

Not just the replacement of the concern sprocket or sprockets, there are other related concerns:

(1) Is there any slight noticeable loss of power on motion when the engine has attained full operating temperature particularly when picking from low speed that needs high torque.

(2) Was their any error codes that falls between P0011 to P0022.

If you have any of these two concerns above, then replacement of Sprocket won't solve the problem, money and time will just be wasted, so we need to go down to engine mechanical based issues. With the use of standard scanning tools or Ford dealership scan tool (IDS/VCM) we proceed to engine six cylinders compression values, oil pressure Crank pin/throw variation, Advancement and retardation of the variable lead and lag of inlet and exhaust valves of both bank 1 and 2 etc.


If it came to that, you need to connect me on chat with your mechanic and I will carry out the repairs online and you Edge will come out in good shape.

You fascination to Ford means that you're a good judge of vehicles posture. Now let me just touch few points in your enquiry. Some stories about the suv, good, stories will always be stories either truth or fallacy. To be candid, those stories are fallacies, because 90% of the stories are hearsay stories (false rumors). People will propagate the rumors because they have abuse the vehicle by repairing in unprofessional workshop then later blame it on the vehicle. likewise your friend might have explained such.

Though I repair Ford, we might assume that I need to Polish Ford, because of my business, good a normal person has to Polish his business provided the work done justified the money paid by the clients.

Aside the hearsay and I, that advocate for Ford, the purest truth you can get, should be from Ford owners that have experienced the performance of Ford at first hand.
