Hello Nairalanders. I'm new here. I need your advise on whether to start with Student visa in Canada or PR in Canada, And if it’s possible to do both side by side. Thank you as I await your response.

How do we advise without knowing your profile/qualifications?

Please for those that have gotten their visas, are you booking 1 way or 2 way ticket? I heard that there will be issues of intent with 1 way ticket

Issues of intent when you have gotten your visa? I don't think do.
Moreover, you can't get a two way ticket with a validity more than one year (what is you're running a program 2/3 years program)?

@lekiboboe @justwise @justmellow @chocs Is there a thread of students in Canada? I know there’s a thread called “Living in Canada” but it seems best suited for PR...

Thanks

@Justmellow, @Frankrobbn1
Thank you so much for your selfless service and your great answers.
Please I need further advice:
1.Based on the note sent to me, any further action on my application would be put on hold till 17th of December which is almost one month time after which it will be assumed I want normal processing. Considering the fact that I am supposed to resume in Jan 2021,:
1. Should I request for a deferment from my school till September 2021 so as not to jeopardize my approval chance because of the high proximity of resumption time or is there anything else I can do?
2.If number 1 above is the right route,( i.e deferment) how do I communicate my intention to the visa office?
JustMellow:

Hello Seyiki,

You should talk to your mom to enquire from her bank for further direction. However, its not a compulsory factor that you must opt the NSE processing.

The NSE would be best for prospective applicants who would have the time to prep for the IELTS and/or building their funds to the stipulated eligibility amount, and not for those that already have their application processing ongoing. 75k is a whole sum that can be well-invested.

All the best

Most tickets expire in 1 year, so it might be pointless. Except you have plans of using it. All the people I know used a one way ticket and had no problem.

My course is a 2yr course. I was scared cos a reputable immigration consultant told me that she personally knows 2 people who were turned back at POE for having a 1 way ticket. Her words:
[20:02, 22/11/2020] .......: I usually don't advise this oo honestly
[20:03, 22/11/2020] .......: I know 2 people who have been turned back at the point of entry for this reason

Checked requirements of Conestoga for Food safety and Quality Assurance. They requested for Transcript assessment i.e WES. which I believe will slow up application. Does anyone knows schools that's doesn't require transcript evaluation and offer same course or related course of study b4 giving admission. Thanks

Hi Guys,

I have a quick question. When re-applying for a study permit after an initial refusal does one need to attach all previously included documents or mostly new documents to address the reasons for the refusal. Sizes of the attachment can add up really fast and it would be good to know if things like employment letter, payslips, etc which were sent earlier can be left out during the new application.
Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 17 by Chocs(f): 11:05pm On Nov 22, 2020
This would make sense if it were a visit visa, not for a study permit.

Not for a study Permit .
One way ticket is what you need. You will be fine

Please house, I submitted my application on the 6th of November for winter 2021, first time applicant to Canada and up till now I have not received biometrics collection letter. Has anyone experience this situation before. My profile keep reading we do not need your fingerprints, we will send you a message if this changes. I have sent webform and email to both Lagos and Nairobi office but nothing has changed.

By the way, I submitted for my wife as accompanying spouse together with mine on the 6th and my wife biometrics collection letter came on the 9th of November, she did it that same date and it reflected immediately in her account as completed but mine is still saying we do not need your fingerprints ... What could be the reason for this. Thank you

I hope yours drops asap.

Hello Goodmorning everyone. I'm new here but I have a question please. I have already applied for a PhD at the University of Manitoba. My question is this, with a full funded PhD with teaching assistantship position. Will I still need to show proof of funds to cover the tuition and living expenses? to apply for the student visa ?

thanks

Lekiboboe:

Hi,

Let me assume you are a Graduate (B.SC/B.A or HND)

Have you gotten Admission?

If NO,

1) First thing you should do is to apply for a Program in a Skool (DLI - Designated Learning Institute in Canada) that offers PGWP (Post Graduate Work Permit), the Admission letter you get is part of the documents you gonna use to apply for a Study Visa

In applying for a Skool,
Make sure you show Career/Academic/Logical Progression most especially your Degree/Work Experience should be resonating with the Program you are going for.

So for instance,
If you studied Microbiology & you are going for Accounting , that's a Very Wrong Career Progression, but if you have years of Work Experience in Accounting even though you studied Microbiology, you can still go for it.

also,
note that you can't just apply for any program

U also gotta show Progression in the qualification of Program you are going for
e.g
- B.SC grad (2.1) going for a Masters
- B.SC grad (2.2) & HND graduate going for a PGD/PG. Cert/ Post Baccalaureate Diploma
- M.SC grad going for PH.D

If you have a 2.1 and you want to go for a PG. Cert, endeavor to show cogent reasons in a convincing manner in your SOP why you are going for a PG. Cert instead of a Masters Degree.

You can state your Course of Study, your grade, members in House might be able to suggest a Program you can go for that relates to either your Degree or Work Experience

2) Financial Readiness is very very important
- You need to have enough money that's gonna cater for your tuition (like $14,000CAD upward , depending on the tuition amount of the program) & compulsory One-year living Expenses ($10,00 CAD).

If you are to make use of a Sponsor, it should be either your Mum, Dad, Sibling or Uncle/Aunty who you bear same surname with and have known you way back in time & your Sponsor should have enough money to the extent he/she will still have substantial amount of money in his/her account even after sponsoring you

Also, both parties should avoid any form of Lump sum of Money in their Accounts

3) Show Strong Ties to Home country I.e things that can compel u to come back to Nigeria after your Studies e.g Your Parents, Wife/Husband & Kids (If Married), Landed Properties, Job, Position etc.

Hi, I graduated from Uni 2017, did my NYSC 2018..graduated with 2:2 Bsc Physics, and I’m opting to go for computer science technology or any IT related course PGD. I would love to know if this is seen as a related course and won’t raise any red flag..thank you!
Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 17 by Akannitommy: 4:40am On Nov 23, 2020
If the funding package is adequate to take care of tuition and living costs for one year, no you do not need to show extra POF. However, from experience you may want to include a ibank statement just for formality regardless of the bank balance.

Also, if you are a family man and even when you are traveling alone without family, you will be expected to show a plan/funding (stated clearly in your SOP) to take care of them while you are away. So showing a POF do not necessarily mean for your study alone but also to cover your responsibilities too.

So I graduated from the University in 2018, proceeded for my law school in 2019, Just completed my NYSC in 2020.

If you have at least 3 years work experience use PR. But I don't think you do since you just graduated 2 years.
You can try the study route. Also try to stimulate your EE points. If it's above 475, then you're good to go.
