I disagree with you on the Doctors perspective. If you however encounter such Doctors....please you can report to the appropriate authority.... though no doctor will be making a call or chatting to unmedical related case while a patient needs his urgent or emergency attention.

No lies school admins. Most especially those women wey dey stay faculty, Senate or do secretary for HOD or Dean. They are extremely rude and arrogant.

I remembered back then in school what some of us passed through just to do our final year clearance. The way those idiots look down on students ehn. I remember my own case in 400l. I was advised to write a letter to the dean concerning a missing script. Wrote the letter well in plain white paper and proceeded to his office. I met his sec and greeted. Then in their usual demeaning way of responding with "How are you", she answered. Meanwhile she was eating. I explained myself but she didn't even do like say person dey follow am talk. I stood for like 5 min and all of a sudden she shouted '" young man don't be stupid , you can see I'm eating , will you get out of this place. ". She proceeded to insult me in Yoruba too. Out of embarassment, I went out and went back in again after like 30 min. I waited for 30min to be sure she must have finished her food coz I no want another round of embarassment. So I got in greeted and re explained myself. She dey use me watch television . After standing for about 5 min she stretched her hands signifying me to hand the paper over to her. Then in her words she was like "did you pick this paper out of the dustbin"
She tore it, threw it at me and asked me to get out. As I was going out, she still called me back and asked me to pick up the mess (torn paper) on the floor.

yes i noticed it..when they go to these advanced climes, they suddenly become very mannered...most nurses in Nigeria have, sadly to say, lost that sense of empathy-which is suppose to be the very core of their profession- towards their own patients

Wait till you work 12 to 14 hours a day getting peanuts, running yourself to the ground , getting salaries delayed or out rightly unpaid.

The average number of patients a nurse/doctor should see daily should not exceed 5 to 8 so they can give proper care. On a daily basis health workers attend to more than 50 to 60 patients without hazard allowance, or even over time being paid. Add these to patients who won't read and follow basic instructions. You have to repeat yourself 50 million times on things as basic as writing your gender on a form.

A state froze promotion for health workers since 2009. That's 11 years ago without any increment in salary.

It's not rocket science. When you have a toxic and non supportive work environment, people would get angry and pass such on to end users.

Pray tell how would such person be happy to even work let alone be courteous when attending to you.

Re: Why Are People In These Professions Very Rude? by 001Truth: 9:55am On Nov 24, 2020
Very few of them could be different. Most of them are proud, disrespectful and full of themselves because the effort of people in other professions seem to have been undermined by the society and the government. E.g. For the fact that someone is a medical student and not even a doctor yet, you stand the chances having what others cannot. The beautiful Ladies, unsolicited greetings and admiration, and so on, even if a doctor would argue with a lay patient that fruit juices don't contain preservatives and you wonder how he got his degree!

VISIBLE CHANGES would surface when a doctor realises he needs a plumber and a nurse realises she needs an ARCHITECTS and that we all have need of one another; When a lady goes for a man because of his genuine value which should be seen beyond his profession; When a lady would at certain instances go for an Economist over a Surgeon. When NEPA officials are sent to jailed for misconduct; When recognizing an Electrical engineer would attract the same ovation as mentioning people in other professions.

Seriously , to me....I feel its pressure if the work! Majority of this low paid job in Nigeria are over worked up and frustrating! Imagine a doctor seeing over 50 patients at a go in the clinic! There is no way he wunt get provoked at a slightest stimulation!

Nigerian nurses are generally bittered to both patients and medical students and I still don't know why but for medical doctors I've never seen any rude doctors before because they have to show empathy to their patients if they want that px to improve health wise.
You cannot have a negative blanket opinion like this about a people and expect them to respect you the moment you walk through the door. Most things in life are mutual including respect.
Some years back, I walked out an American out of the clinic for using the f word. ' I have been f**king calling you' I showed him the door and he left. He reported the incident to the Platform's Manager and I narrated what he did. He apologised and I attended to him after that.
The question is are Nurses respected in Nigeria ?
Someone raised the point that Nigerian Nurses behaved well, outside the country. The reason is, they are respected outside the country. In saner climes, there is dignity in labor, I should be respected for the 'little' i am contributing to humanity. Even if I am the one cleaning your shoe, you should respect me for being the one cleaning your shoe.
Let all Nigerians cultivate RESPECT as a norm irrespective of the persons involved.

i understand that been rude and impolite is something personal but looking around, some professions habour large number of these rude and stern set of peeps and it makes me wonder..

1.Nurses; I recently went to a general hospital to see a friend and seeing the way these nurses handle patients makes me wonder if hostility is part of the nursing curriculum being taught in nursing school... A particular patient was screaming of pains and these nurses were just glued to their plasma television watching zeeworld.. I understand the work load is quite cumbersome but does that justify thier carlous attitude towards people they are meant to take care of...

If don't mind, what do you mean by 'handle the patients' was it manual handling or just interactions/communication.

Nigerians are naturally rude people, everyone is angry, no manners.
Underpaid and delayed salaries.

NB: Is difficult to meet a rude doctor in a private facilities because the patient money flows into their pockets. The opposite is the case for public facilities.

Oh.. job pressure doesn't justify rudeness? But see your own reaction to a harmless comment I made... Should my comment in any trigger rudeness? Yet you were rude. Now imagine those actually under pressure, how they will react.

Thank God you just confirmed my thoughts.

From my work experience nurses just hate people overall because they think they are either stressing them or messing up their work. After a while as long as the patient isn't dying they will just do whatever because they are used to it.

Some Doctors have a god complex because their work is held in high esteem and some are just sadists.

But one thing you notice is that all these professions have to deal with constant human interaction.

Finally you didn't add soldiers and police to the list.
Another blanket opinion again. Has no one ever met a good nurse? It is like saying that Nigerian hates nurses.

I met a few good nurses but really to be honest many don't have patience at all. Some were very rude to me and kept making things difficult when I was just trying to do my job.

The ones I got to know as kind took months of work to interact with.

The customer is always right is not just an empty saying
.

That statement is relative. Earlier this year, A commuter spat on the face of a lady, a train ticketeer. She developed Covid 19 and died, the guy has been taken to court in-absentia after the fact. He will serve his sentence one day.
Customers are only right when they respect staff and comport themselves well.
I cannot remember how many times, I have called the security to intervene and take some folks out.

There are bad eggs everywhere. But to paint all nurses with the same brush is what I don't appreciate.
Many of us have been unfair to nurses, and most nurses themselves are not ready to shake off the misrepresentation, denigration and subjugation of their Profession.

Frankly, I think this "rude attitude" thing is '5 & 6' with all Nigerian public services, especially those that are runned directly or indirectly by the government.
The Police,
Power Distribution Companies,
Civil Servants, to mention but a few are not left out.
These workers see it as a norm now maybe because they are not
been punished for behaving in those ways.
Anyways, I will pin it to a rotten system where people get jobs on the ground of money they paid for it or the person that they know. That's why quality public human relations have been thrown into the thrash.
Oh finally, someone has seen the underline problem. It is a systemic thing, almost a norm.

Leadership account for everything. People will go to Orilonise Hospital that has quacks dressed in white as nurses, they will be mistreated and abused. Then complained that nurses are rude. FYI, you were not attended to by nurses. Where are the agencies and parastatals that should regulate private clinics and hospitals. In the UK there is CQC, What do we have in Nigeria.

In the Government hospitals, where real professionals are employed. What is the training and retraining schedule? What equipment do they have to work? I know nurses that have had slipped disc from trying to lift patients alone. To these nurses, no Jupiter will make them to attempt lifting a patient alone.
After explaining to the patient that they cannot perform this procedure alone, they will wait for their colleagues to be free to join them. (I do not think any of the teaching hospitals have patient hoist). From the patient's and relatives perspective, this nurse could be said to be rude and uncaring. But really is it the nurse's fault, no.
Chronic Staff shortage and dearth of clinical equipment are the issues.
