I think he's paying for the consequences of having an overzealous security escort and orderly!

Until these VIPS begin to caution the excess of their escorts, they should be ready to bear the consequences of their actions..

A case they can’t win against Gbaja, they should rather sue the DSS guy

I’m in 2 minds. What I consider is that when people are killed due to negligence, error malpractice etc., You don’t hear families of the deceased petitioning for a pay out, but for an enquiry. The payout is done hush hush and somewhat automatically.

And when a civilian is murdered/shot, likewise, you hear the families seeking justice, not money.
Settlements are often done off record and out of public domain where possible.

Perhaps the issue is they shouldn’t even need to ask and have felt sidelined/belittled, or maybe even insulted by the original offer which is quite shameful on GBA’s side. He should know the appropriate measures to take.

On the other hand you wonder, is money the answer to grief? Does a recently bereaved person immediate take up a fight for money? Feels a bit uncouth.

It’s already public knowledge so what’s in it for GBA to pay? Not like they will sign any disclosure to prevent his image from tarnishing. And if it’s a case for the FGN, then payouts definitely won’t make a difference.

Just unsure undecided

Definitely mks sense to me, I get your position. But I w'll say this, in saner climes you don't request for money bc the person knows what to do, but in Nigeria, Gbajabiamila will play to gallary and leave the family with nothing.
secondly is there any other compensation you can suggest but money?? the deceased is a bread winner, so the people he cares for will need to eat, shelter, school, clothes etc.

Can you just imagine profiting from the death of their son
So those families in the US that normally sue the state for unjust police killings are not benefiting from the death of their son? Will you be the one to cater for those he left behind? What is your grouse if the family decides to ask for some form of compensation? So what do u think they should do?

I had to consult my dictionary to see if there is a new meaning to magnanimity. For you eh, when your security operative kills a man, while on duty, howbeit unjustly, and you reach out to the family, then you are being generous abi??
that's slave mentality bro!! its a responsibility/an obligation, not a favour.

Even when plane crash happens, the airline pays victims families huge sums of money. It's not out of order to ask for money from him, because the security man is his responsibility and there is no other way he can compensate them. abi he give them another son and father??

I will ignore your second paragraph, because if I want to address it, I go chop ban. Nonsense and gbajabiamila!
some Nigerians are so pathetic, easy to deceive bunch of idi*ts. no wonder they sell their conscience for 1k during elections. spits

He's equal to the task... Let him pay up...after all they were handsomely paid. This should served as deterrent to other politificians to caution their orderlies as any unpatriotic act of them or trigger happy amongst them should be treated with such disdain... But I think mike wants to use the case to get on the speaker as APC member and collect his own share ... But I no at the end of the day him go at least pay up the family well.

You are right on. I am not a lawyer but I think a competent lawyer would have done things behind the scene instead of advertising it in the open. The fact that your child was just killed in the hand of people that suppose to protect him bring you goodwill but when the first thing was to be asking for money you loose goodwill. Courtesy and good manner require Femi Gbaja.. to pay visit and empathized with the family but no law require him to do anything. They have shut down anything the speaker could have done out of the generosity of his heart and turn it into an adversarial relationship when they engaged a PDP lawyer to demand money from him. If they had work behind the scene with independent or APC lawyer they would have had Gbaja in their corner demanding higher compensation for them from the federal government who is the actual employer of the culprit.

As for those saying #500M is too much, there is no amount of money that can buy human life. The man was a newspaper vendor today he could become a LG chairman tomorrow or be the father of Nigeria future president or the grand father to America future president.

True. Maybe they wanted to seize the moment to cash in since Gbaja appeared vulnerable and accessible(not a bad thing for a Govt employee to be reachable). The thing is directing the suit at Femi alone will make them lose some goodwill as you've mentioned.

In my opinion, any decent lawyer will get Femi off the hooks, as he does not control the aides terms of reference/code of conduct. I just hope that he will still be mature enough to render the help he already promised to the deceased's family irrespective of legal squabbles.

Perhaps you could learn from this. In case you have a potential Case that could yield money. You can lobby any lawyer for free. I.e "I will give you 30% of the money that comes out of it.

Ozekhome's chamber charges 90m. So 30 or 50% is quiet sufficient. Besides, a human right case. A thing that makes Ozekhome happy.

They probably abandoned him when he was alive, so dude started selling newspapers to survive. As soon as he was killed, theyre so happy he died in the proper hands and quickly opened office. If the dead vendor miraculously wakes up from death, they will be the saddest to hear such news. Hungry family. If the richest person in such family suddenly sets eyes on just N1m cash, the shock can make him faint.

It is a pity most people do not know their rights in Nigeria. Ordinary 500million naira and people sre saying the family is greedy. Lol. They have not even asked enough. Just imagine the comments up here. You can see that most Nigerian are under bondage,.yet they do not know. If Gbajamila himself is shot dead, how much will his family ask? So,.going to see the family of the deceased is an act of kindness. Chai! Nigerians have being turned to zombies. What a pity.
Oga!
I surprise say na you and few others na reason differently like me.
Others na Zombies.
That family for demand N2bilion.
Then Gbajabiamila go price like N500M.
The earlier we start holding politians for their wrong actions the better.
If politians know that they will be held accountable for their actions, they will improve in dealing positively with the people.

I am sure the learned SAN will know, that the Speakers defence will be that he is not in control of the security personnel assigned to him and it is the DSS that should be the defendant how will they prove that the Speaker ordered the shooting. Furthermore, typically compensation is not paid out of the blue, the judge will consider the earnings of the vendor which is probably 1-2 million per annum so at most I see #10million for wrongful death and #40million for loss of earnings making a total of #50 million.
