I agree, but try and look at it from this perspective : you receiving a text from an anonymous number on WhatsApp is a breach on your privacy and security. And as you know, this is 9ja, and you cannot vouch for the next man. So her response is only natural given the circumstances
Usually your first response to a first msg or hello describes who you really are, once you say who is this? Even if I'm buy something from the person I try to avoid doing business with such a person cos most times they bring trouble and usually uncouth or should I mannerless with way they communicate.

Businesses in Nigeria like to play gods to the citizens due to unimaginable employment rate. That’s why some HR staff from some company would find it convenient to sit in his living room with a mobile phone in his hands stalking vulnerable people who sent in applications or attended interviews. This is bad...Sadly there are people supporting that.

It’s win win for such companies, they’d come in sheep’s skin via unprofessional platforms and when the response embarrass them, they’d claim rudeness and bad attitude...give such staff the needed attention and you’d hear how the potential employee was sexually harassed.

In Nigeria, bad habits have become normalised and part of everyday life.
You are right my brother. These companies operate very shitty recruitment processes all in the name of cutting expense. And if you check well, most them have a very poor organization structure with an even poorer salary scale. In fact such companies tend to owe their staff over a long period

If I become a Governor, I will run it the way I presented my manifesto to my people b4 I became governor provided I didn't go against Nigeria constitution.

For company to conductor their own interview with the way they want, which aspect of constitution they breach sir.

Am not surprise with level of joblessness in naija, no wonder bubu labelled you guy, lazy Nigeria youth when he went abroad.

you keep arguing nonsense for Christ sake, you will be a problem for whoever that will be ur superior. Pls change if you want to get to the top.

.bye and disappear
I don't expect anything more from you oga HR. grin

It very easy for you to conclude that I'm jobless and lazy because I hold the other end of the argument. grin

The interview method you stated earlier is shitty!
Know this and known peace.

Companies and governments should be ran properly not how any individual or group of individuals want.

It's obvious you will be a problem to your subordinates.

This is not an interview please. The company was only trying to cut corners.

And interview is any face-to-face meeting, especially of an official nature.

So how is this offical...? Is this how to conduct an interview....? undecided
Any firm or private sector can decide how their interview would be

I am a medical sonographer

When I applied for a job somewhere in 2015

They got my application and called me to come.

Immediately I got to the hospital they showed me 10 patients to scan them grin

Without asking questions or letting me check the kind of ultrasound machine they have.

You see their pattern of interview??

So what I did was go ask the patient to give me 10 minutes to charge the machine ( this was how I bought little time to check the machine type and acquaint my self with the machine before i started scanning.

After i was done that was how i got he job grin

After you have applied for any job always prepare your self for anything that's the truth.

Some girls always think anyone who chats them want to chyk them undecided

I do not support the lady's rudeness, but the company should have informed her on the method they would use to contact her in case she was selected. It is just standard procedure.
She just displayed how she would handle clients

No matter what there is a thing called etiquette.

If her uncouth responses had come further down the line during the chat then that argument may hold water.

But to reply in such a manner right off the bat is a BIG no no.

It portrays her as someone who lacks manners and made it seem as if what Mr Samson saw in her during their brief meeting (which made them contact her) was all a ruse.

Also the flippant manner in which she typed her responses ("5n", "Hu is dis"wink was in stark contrast to Kemal's formal tone when greeting her initially. In my books, that was the killer.

That's a lame excuse. You don't expect your examiner to tell you method of questioning for your exams. Interview is like an exam. Be prepared at any time.
Some interviews don't require questions on your field. They just require your manners especially where you're supposed to be working with a team.
Perfect expertise in a field can be ruined by bad manners.

Why do you think it happens to the female employees mainly??

Do you think the men are better behaved?

WhatsApp shouldn’t be a way for a company to communicate with a potential employee.

Some randy HR staff do abuse their positions by stalking female employees. Think.

If the company was desperate to communicate with a staff, phone their numbers recognised company numbers, send sms with company phones and send emails....why save someone’s number on WhatsApp and start stalking and sending them messages with ‘hi’?
You are actually talking about something else extreme...

In the above instance, we can't call it stalking since it was a one time thing... And, I disagree with you on Whatsapp not being a medium for contact. It is a well used medium by a lot of companies, even banks.

Nothing stopped her from being courteous in the first place. If the person turns out to be a suitor, you can then lash him and block the number... Come to think of it, do you know how many ladies who text and message me even at odd times on whatsapp??! I have never been rude to any of them, especially when I don't know the number or the purpose... I simply and calmly respond to the greetings, then politely ask for the purpose of the text. Life is that simple!!!

See ehn, we need not go back and forth on issues of ethics and etiquette... Rudeness is a terrible character flaw irrespective of the mitigating circumstance, especially where the person at the receiving end has done nothing to warrant it, as seen above.

You are completely off point here.

First and foremost, we are not talking about you, or your success in securing a job; we are actually discussing on the method used by the above company in disseminating information to one of their applicants.

Breach you said! Is there really privacy? When she submitted her application with cv or resume, did she not add her whatsapp number and all contact details there? The girl is wrong in all form. And she deserves no pity for her ill-manners.
Be kind to strangers. Let them prove who they are with time. First impression matters. What's wrong, saying, "Goodmorning" "Trust you slept well" and after responding, then continue, "Please may I know you, because your contact isn't saved to my device, and obviously, you know me well, having mentioned my name"

Look, we are all different and we react differently to situations. And what you have just stated is how you would react in this sort of situation. But you need to remember, that not everyone is you, and they will react differently from you.

Don’t hyperventilate with your moral compass nonsense.
Hyperventilate? huh grin Moral compass and good behaviour in situations like this are not nonsense, except to those who have the same character and attitude as the girl. grin

If you investigate, you’ll be surprised that this didn’t even happen. Someone probably came up with a story to see how people would react.
It still doesn't change the fact that you defended and subtly excused rudeness bad behaviour while irrationally and unfairly attributing faults to the company. You did not do the right thing and that tells a lot about yourself.

Read my post well, I was being sarcastic with the other social media platform.
Na so. Anyway, let's end the discussion. Good day.

The way you people keep talking about privacy is very funny.
It's not as if the company broke into her home or invaded her house, broke down her door and stuff. It was just a simple "Hello, good evening Mary".
If that is what you call invading one's privacy, then you really need help.

It is invasion of privacy because WhatsApp is for just family and friends for some people. The prospective employer should have just sent her a text message.

I think it's one of the interview tests to actually know how to deal with strangers or a maturity test though.
Same method was used for me 2yrs back when I did my internship with Chevron. The guy didn't use the company's number when he messaged me and later called. I was actually expecting a mail from them but they didn't, at first.
