If you knew all this why did you go to the UK to study in the first place?

I guess you were one of those who believed that people were discouraging you from going to the UK.

Good question. I bet he won't respond to this question

A beautiful afternoon to everyone here, please I need your urgent advise. My hubby just got admission for his PhD and we want to apply for visa, below are my questions
1. Can the four of us apply at once? Or hubby should apply alone first. I'm thinking they will say the family is too large ( We have all the necessary cash)
2. Our first child is 19 and the second is 6, will the first born be disqualified because of his age?
3. If granted visa, is it advisable that we all leave at once?
Thank you all as I await your candid response.

According to uk gov website;

https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/923750/student-route-casework-guidance.pdf

Page 106

The following people are allowed to come to the UK as a dependant to join a person who has been granted permission as a Student, or who will be applying at the same time:

• spouses
• civil partners
• unmarried or same-sex partners
• dependent children of either a Student or their partner under the age of 18

The last point is very dicey meaning there can be dependent children of above 18.

Hope this helps in your findings

You can't run any form of business as a student. See attached screenshot on some examples of self-employment as a student.
bamangar:
I need a viable response on this. I learnt that the UK student visa doesn't allow any form of freelancing jobs.
Some one was saying that one's student accounts are monitored. If you work far more than the hours, they will know. And if you make far more money required to be in your account as a student, they will know.

Now here is my point, someone that has social media platforms that generates up to N1m / £2k monthly, she has been running this social media platforms since she was in Nigeria and intends maintaining it while undergoing her masters in Uk. While in uk, she's making that money, withdrawing it with student account and using it to take care of herself.
Will the student visa be withdrawn Though all those money are made genuinely from her online platform she creates content for.

Secondly, can one run an online business while also doing student jobs with the normal 20 hours, if immigration discover they make more money, will it affect the student visa??

@michellez see the below contact. It's on their website too, you will see alternate numbers. I don't know how to attach on Nairaland yet! I simply typed IOM or type TB Test on the search bar up to see other numbers. I hope this helps? You have to call repeatedly from tomorrow morning, they will pick up eventually... All the best!

Exactly my point, you do not know the reason people make different decisions. You can't come and be forcing your opinion on people, stop being a narcissist.

FYI when I arrive UK and get a good deal I am going nowhere. Don't let my name deceive you oh

The same way you know many people making it in Nigeria despite the doom and glom.

One of the biggest mistake people make is to come to the UK purely because they want to leave Nigeria disguised as genuine students

Do you have a realistic plan? Not about Nigerians are survivals, suffering in the UK is better than Nigeria bla bla bla

Is your course marketable in the UK? Can you graduate with a grade that will make you standout from thousands who have the same qualification?

What is your plan after graduation and you can't get a job?

To stay back you need to be able to continue extending your visa or switch to other type of visa.

Getting a graduate job is the shortest cut to that but the hardest as well now.

Now this is the issue...any job you applied for now will have thousands of applicants and you need to standout 2x to be invited for an interview, many of the applicants are citizens/PR holders who doesn't need a visa or any condition to get a job.

Those who stayed back genuinely worked their backside off and not wasting time spiritualising it.

Its absolutely possible to stay back but out of 100 Nigerian students who came to the UK to study probably less than 20 will be able to stay back genuinely.

My dear I am sending my kids not me. They are young when they are through with their studies they will definitely decide whether to remain in UK, Canada or US. I believe in destiny and I work hard with prayer ones dream will be achieved. My husband chose UK because it is closer to us hence they are minors. When they graduate we will take it off from there. My daughter is studying medicine while my boy is software engineering.

But first child is 19 and dependant rules apply to under 18 years. Even if op submits all these proof to convince ECO, same guidelines will apply. Don't you think?

mimilyrics:
1. Yes, you can all apply at once. You can also decide that your husband applies first if you think that there's a risk of refusal to prevent wasting the associated fees. This all boils down to your preferences.
2. No as long as he's not married, in a civil partnership or living an independent life.
3. Depends on you. You can decide for the main applicant to go first to sort accommodation so that the stress of searching and cost of temporary accommodation while you look for a permanent one doesn't affect you all. On the other hand, you can all decide to come together if you don't mind the cost and stress.

To prove that he's dependent on you, submitting the following will help prove your case and convince the ECO that he meets all the requirements of a student dependant visa;
1. An official letter from their current school, college or university that confirms their address (which should be same as yours).
2. bank statement (which may show funds that you/your husband are still providing to support him).
3. Driver's licence (the address on it should be the same as your address).
4. evidence that he is being financially supported by you and your husband up to the point of the application submission (for example, evidence covering a 3 month period prior to the application)

The earliest date for a student visa is the 29th of December Wow, those of us that haven't applied yet, does this mean we can't get a date this month? What about priority dates?
Preshy2004:
Pls I have visa appointment on the 15th of December can I go with my son and pay for walk in service for him? His own visa is tier4 student visa while mine is visiting visa. The earliest date for students visa is 29th and that is too far.

The dependant rules apply to a child above 18 only if the child hasn't married or started living an independent life and the parents can prove it.

Proving is one thing, the rules are another. I'm sure the ECO would want to follow the latter.

Can you show us where it says over 18 can?

Please those that have recently applied, when is the earliest date available for biometrics? I travelled to Abuja from ph for tb test, I've gotten the certificate and should be able to apply this week hopefully when I get my CAS. Would I be able to get a date (priority included) within the next 2 weeks from my application?....It would be a lot to go back home and come back here again....Please advise

See link and attached screenshot from the student visa guide page 109. I've had someone do same for an application from outside the UK but it wasn't recent so I can't say for certain that it will 100% work now.

Living an independent life is a definition that is for the caseworker to determine.
Generally, if he's in university over here and dependent on you, that's fine (most Nigerian 18 year-olds in university are dependent anyway), but be aware that you will have to pay international fees to put the child in university in the UK.

This is serious.

What if she continues the online stuff and receive money from it through her Nigerian account and then finds a way to send it to her UK account or look for someone in UK who can swap £ for #(transfer through mobile banking)?

This is the main problem for over 18 is this statement in your screen shot :they are making an application for permission as a dependant of Student who is permitted to have dependants in the UK having last held permission as a dependant of that Student or the Student’s dependant partner

...........

This reads to me that for any over 18 , only applies to those who already held permission to live in the UK as your dependant child. So probably initally issued when they were less than 18 . For a new applicant how do you fulfil that criteria?

I have been reading your comments. You see honestly, I don’t know why it’s paining you that people want to go and try out their destiny in the UK. Why are you an agent of discouragement? U attack everyone that tries to correct you. (Naija beta nai them wan comot)?

Whoever says one can’t make it abroad should first return home and tear his RP/visa before saying it then we will beliv.

You are not God So u cannot Conclude the destiny of anyone no matter the course he/she chose to study If it is the will of God for that person to go to the UK it will surely be and the person will succeed.

Your advice is not needed. “Adviser Nowamagbe” advice ursef. if someone like you finally enters Abroad will neva assist any member of his family.

My friend use the time for commenting rubbish to pray that God gives u sense of direction, because u know nothing. Maybe this UK is not even your destiny rather it is to remain in Nigeria.

I want u to know that many people here know nothing good in life comes easy and that includes going to the UK so there are sacrifices and prizes to be paid. So stop trying to scare people (not me) who are still trying to decide. I can see u know nothing about live hustle.

If you can get a sterling card, then convert your money to sterling, take the hit, get a sterling card, and move on.

Fact: the banks will make money off you because this is what they are set up to do once you move money through them. All you can do is limit how much they hit you for, not eliminate it entirely.
