Pls has anyone had experience with bicycle riding during the winter period? I am thinking of getting a bike to ease the cost of transport for me. but I am also considering the cold. I don't know how it is when winter sets in. And hoping my investment in buying the bike would not be futile.

If you have any experience on this. Kindly share.

Thanks

The best option would have been to apply to HCPC through the international route but u might need MLSN registration. However, volunteering in U.K. labs will give u experience and recommendations for any job openings.

Check out this link for list of accredited unis

https://www.ibms.org/resources/documents/ibms-accredited-post-graduate-degree-courses-updated-sept-2020/1accredited-course-higher-updated-2020-september-11.pdf

Also, there’s a training you can apply for here in the uk. It’s a 6 weeks crash training course in Microbiology or Histology. The training is about £3500 but they accept monthly payment. They help with ur CV and recommend you for jobs via recruitment agencies to NHS hospitals. You can get locum jobs from there and work ur way towards securing a permanent job.

Thanks for the swift response @omopapa. I have a few questions(if you do not mind). I just want to understand the whole thing .
1) Will the training be beneficial in getting HCPC licence? I mean will it make up for the little lab experience that I have?

2) The lab experience I have including the one I intend to get is in a lab where they do majorly hematology and biochemistry tests like malaria, genotype, liver function test etc. I don't have any experience in microbiology or histology. Hope it will not be a problem (when it comes to applying for licence)?

3) Based on your experience, what's the probability of getting a volunteer job? I intend to also work while schooling to pay for my living expenses and a small portion of my fees. How feasible is it to combine this with volunteering?
Thanks a lot and a lot for your time @omopapa. I anticipate your response.

1. Yes it will add up to your experience if u get a job with it. It seems to be the easiest way while ur waiting to be licensed you can earn some money from the job u get as a result of the training.

2. It won’t be a prob. The registration is generic you can work in any of the specialties of biomedical sci (haematology, microbiology, histology, biochemistry, virology). However, u need experience to work in a chosen specialty hence the reason for the training

Also, most biochemistry and haematological tests are automated unlike Nigeria that they are hands on.

3. Volunteering has become as competitive as getting a full time job recently due to the pecks that comes with it. Usually, ur lecture can refer you the closest NHS facility to ur uni but the competition is high I must say.

I doubt if u can manage to combine volunteering, working and studying together, will be too much hassle for you trust me.

Options are either

1. Study and volunteer to get experience (but no time to work)
2. Study and work (20hrs/week) to earn money (no time to volunteer)
3. Option 2 plus 6 weeks training, graduate, apply for post study visa and use ur training to secure a locum job.

Hopefully with ur experience as a locum staff and before the end of ur post graduate visa u will be HCPC registered and can switch to tier 2

Your body generates heat when your riding and shldnt be as cold but u will have to be well dressed obviously

Bicycle riding is eco friendly, cheap means of transportation and healthy. You can NEVER go wrong owing one.

Lastly, “wahala be like bicycle” e no need fuel to start!

I’m sure they will get back to you to request for it and other documents but u will need to act fast and reply them ASAP as time is already ticking for January intake

Go for it, i cycle a lot..winter, summer etc, get a good glove and winter jack, after 5-10mins you will not feel it. Get good bike lock else you will lose your bike even in front of your house.

You need front and back light if you cycle at night

Wow...thank you very much for this valuable info @omopapa. Option 3 seems like the best option for me.

Just to be sure I understand you correctly, HCPC licence is not needed for locum positions and also, with the experience I will get from the locum job (give or take 1 year), my chances of getting the licence will be quite high right?

Please (if it's not stressful for you), I will need more information on the 6 weeks crash training so I can know how to find my way there when the time comes.

I really appreciate all you do for us. Thanks for your time.

Declare any visa refusal, be honest when completing the application form.

How about in a case where you can’t remember the exact date and reason for refusal.

What do we fill in the column where we declared that “yes” we have been refused a visa before.
