Sony!! did you say sony went under the radar? Which phones do we have in nigeria that can match sony. Infinix, tecno and itel abi na Xiaomi.... Nigeria market does not favor sony, hence low publicity. I used sony, won one of their big screen plasma TVs, and their products gave me no issue. xperia xz, Xperia 5 11 amongst other sony phones are top notch phones. Sony still produces phone wella. HTC, Sony, LG, Nokia never went under any radar as they are still producing phones well, only BB went under the radar and they claimed to be coming back soon. My next phone should be one of the xperias God willing. My friend in Germany even uses Xperia.

BB DIDN'T GO UNDER ANY RADAR... they produce great phones till date bro

Just that we have cheap phones flooding our market so theey leave us with chinkos

They refused to evolve and so they died, the same way Yugoslavia and USSR died. We pray and hope Nigeria would not become a Motorola some day

Lenovo owns Motorola now. Sony makes more profit from game consoles and their wonderful camera sensors than their smartphones

The android phone you using is qwerty
So what's up
Any android keyboards can be changed from Qwerty style.

There are other styles including , PC, azerty, dvorak etc . Keyboard styles for android.

Android being android IS VERY flexible and this includes seemingly small things like keyboard style.

Way back in 2009/2012, a Blackberry device was on everybody's wishlist. Those Blackberry people use our eyes see pepper that year. Any small thing, "ping me!" "What's your BB pin?" People just assumed that you a BB device. Even the notification sound from BBM alone made some people feel like they have made it, Lol. Then from 2012/2013, the brand began to die. I think people moved to Android devices and iPhones. It was even after the whole Blackberry trend ended I got to use one.

There were other popular phone brands, too, that just suddenly went under the radar. What happened to these brands: HTC, Blackberry, LG, Sony, Motorola, Sony Ericsson, Alcatel? I think Nokia is recently trying to pick up. Those guys made cool devices back then.

Modified: I know some of these brands still make phones, but I'm talking about market share and dominance.

TCL-Alcatel currently has a major market share.

Blackberry didnt die because of that. These are the main reasons Why they died;
1.Ignoring Touchscreen
A key reason to BlackBerry’s failure is their ignorance in choosing to stick with the Querty keyboard whilst leaders like Apple provided a full touchscreen interface to which consumers preferred. Although previously BlackBerry’s had been popular due to their ease of use with instant messaging and firing off quick emails through the keyboard and scrolling ball.

2.Underestimating the competition
Perhaps BlackBerrys greatest issue was its lack of respect for competition. While all the tumult and evolution was happening on the Android and Apple front, BlackBerry was more concerned with protecting what it already had instead of conquering new lands. It
actually that was a major factor plus when they came to android they offered less for more compared to competitions
The didn't ignore touch screen, they implemented it
The only issue is that they failed to remove the physical keyboard which they still use in their latest phones up till today except the z10 and z30 ,that shows you how they haven't learned from their mistake

They first tried to build on the symbian OS before windows. That move helped in killing them!

HTC stopped making phone after HTC one, Don't lecture me on phones. Huawei sold more phones than iPhone this year. How many people have you seen using Huawei compared to iPhone. Because the majority of iPhone that is sold in Wes Africa is second hand phone, which Huawei is selling first Hand base on majority. Do you want to talk about phone spec or what?. Chinese and India covers African market alone, so if Huawei is selling 80% of there phone in Asia , it still cover West Africa market. iPhone is not distributed in West Africa, and Samsung low budget phone is what is sold here .
wrong
If you go to wikipedia and check iPhones and regions they were released to, nigeria is always part expect for few older devices
They have stores in nigeria,I think mostly in malls
Samsung also have stores in nigeria and they sell the latest devices, leave your house and the slot in your neighborhood before coming to conclusions

Even slot has their devices but mostly keeps them Indoors because most people won't buy

If apple starts selling their old devices brand new in nigeria they'll start opening stores everywhere because people would start patronizing them but for example the 7 isn't sold in their stores anymore and how many people can afford the 8 upward ?

Let me tell apple is making their money clean in nigeria, people can afford it
Do you think celebrities or our politicians buy fairly used?
Re: What Happened To These Popular Phone Brands? by Tunagee(m): 7:29pm On Dec 09, 2020
Blackberry failed to work on their terrible batteries. For a mobile office device with a high functionality, batteries strength ought not to have been compromised.

Secondly, blackberry devices failed to imbibe or follow their android technology. They decide to remain with their old operating system which had limited functions compared to android.

Thirdly, RIM the makers of blackberry failed to bring in Whatsapp into their chatting apps as they solely relied on their bb messenger. Other android devices already had Whatsapp which was a widely accepted social media app then.

For Motorola, a dying American phone company, Lenovo, a chinese computer firm bought them over so as to enter the US markets and compete favorably.

They didn't have the same app support as iOS and android so people stopped using them. They were also stuck in the past holding on to the business phone persona and physical keyboard when most business people had moved on to iPhone and Android.
thats why they made the blackberry 10 have the ability to install android apps but it was to late for them then plus why go through the stress of downloading or sending apps when you could get a better device that would download them directly from the official store?

Storm1 is not a fully touch screen, it's a confused screen Button. The screen itself click and sink when operating. I don't even know how I could explain it sef. grin
actually they had touch screen devices even with physical buttons for example the q10, passport and some of 9900/bold series
They created 2 fully touch screen devices without physical keyboards
The blackberry z10 and z30
The z30 is a nice device,I know someone using it but it's more like a side phone to the person now

Sagem was the strongest, drop and pick kind of phones.
sagem , alcatel ,sony Ericsson are still very relevant in the gsm industry.they hv veered off into Electronic components manufacturing.
most of their products form the bulk of technologies used by network Carriers.
alcatel for instance played a major role in the setting up & upgrade of Glo network.
besides most of their components are found in almost all of today's popular phones and electronic gadgets .

Htc, Sony, LG, Motorola are still in the market but is not easy for Nigerians to buy those phone because of the value of our currency.. I have a friend in the US that recently got a new Motorola for $550 but we all know how much is that in our currency and how many Tecno and infinix you will get with that. These brands produce topnotch phone and it would not come cheap

You are right. Blackberry kill itself the day they start rolling BBM for android device. Thats why Apple is wiser. They will never roll out facetime for android. For now blackberry had migrated to android with top notch devices and good features in terms of battery capacity and others. Unfortunately, they are not cheap. Motorolla seems to had changed brand name. I miss Bird, Sagem, Sendo, LG, Trium and even Philips.

I miss Blackberry especially because of the unlimited uncapped monthly subscription. It fell out because network providers capped it.
