Since you were born Naira has been falling and you are here deceiving yourself that it will rise after covid!

Nigeria only exports a dying product. Crude Oil will be worthless in 30yrs so what are the fundamentals that you base your hope on?

MyGeneration:
To me invest now.

Naira is at an all time low because of covid and drop in oil price by next year when covid ends and naira starts rising ur money might not be as big as it is if u invest right now.

Your prediction is too far off.

Dollar will be N1000 by 2025 at the latest!

COMPAQ:

Invest in German stocks or Treasury Bills until you are sure which location you will settle in. DO NOT invest in land/house in Nigeria unless it is inevitable that you are coming back. You lose nothing because even if it takes a year before it is 100% sure you are coming back, your $1 that is worth N470 today, may be worth N550 by then.

Generally any Nigerian that does not have foreign currency investments is DOOMED. I GUARANTEE you by 2030 $1 will be N1000!!

Germany is a participating country in the list of countries that issue "long term resident permit" base on directive 2003/109/EC. Anyone with a German long term permit can work in other participating countries. If you truly works in an immigration house as you claimed, this should not be novelty to you.

Anyone that have a permit residence permit can apply for it, provided that they have sufficiently integrated and can demonstrate it by passing their German language exams.

My advise to you is very different from others. Being also a student in Germany since 2018, I have come to realize that no matter your resident status anywhere in the world, home is where the heart is. As a student, it is not mandatory to invest in Nigeria while studying but is is a very wise decision to take. Waiting until you get PR in Germany or Canada is like putting all your eggs in one basket. You can buy a plot of land in Nigeria and watch the value appreciate before you graduate!

Studying/working in Europe is not easy as many people assume. The system has been designed to take back a large chunk of your earnings (tax, health insurance/ bills etc) and you may be left with nothing to save. Also getting a PR does not guaranty that your income/savings will improve. Remember, after graduation, you will not be living in the subsidized student hostels anymore. There are lots of PR holders and citizens here that can barely get by with what they earn. Some can not go back home for a visit because they have nothing to show after staying for years in the West. If you invest early in Nigeria, your life will have a purpose here in the west. I know students who have real estate investments in Nigeria and they earn returns without breaking a sweat.

A wise investment in Nigeria may be your saving grace in case of emergency! Government policies in the West changes without notice and you need a solid backup at home! No investment is too early, only late investments are regrettable.
WORD!

You are not yet abroad until you have the permanent right to stay there.I met a Nigerian in Hamburg who explained that all the people he came with to Germany were busy hustling and making money without focusing on documents. At the end of the day he said they have not got their papers and making money without legal papers cannot be forever.
I am happy that I stay legally abroad.
Get a plot of land ,get the land papers right, and take possesion by fencing it.THEN FIGHT HARD FOR PERMANENT STAY IN GERMANY.

Damnn, it's crazy how Nigerians are betting on things to get worse in this country.
The saddest part is that everything right now points towards it.

As for the Op, I don't really have any Advice for you but I honestly pray the Lord guides you and irrespective of the decision you make, I pray everything works in your favour and you get a happy ending. Good luck bro

I disagree with you on the aspect of Nigerian investment making u poorer . It depends on the type of investment u made in Nigeria and the amount of capital invested

I have a very close friend who lives in the USA who invested 100 million naira into buying FGN bond of 30yrs when coupon rate % was 17+, he makes 17 million naira yearly as passive income, which he would be collecting for 30 years tenor . My guy said he would NEVER make such in USA .... even if this guy comes back to naija now ... it is enjoyment all the way, with more investment to be made from his coupon

I know at the moment most investment rates have come down but with good amount of capital, there are still investment instruments u could invest in, to stay afloat

Wonderful. So FGN bond sef get future like this ? So, what now happens after the 30years bro. Will he get back is 100 million naira or that's the end . As he is already collecting 17million naira every year without sweating. Chai. O lord. Bless ur boy too o.

You really have a good friend. He gave you the best advise my brother.

However, don't invest in Nigeria for now or even in the nearest future.....10 years to this time cos this is not a stable country for now. Anything can happen within the next few years. You can arrange your family to join you when you are comfortable, I would rather support the advise of your friend to relocate to Canada after your Msc cos there is more of opportunities in Canada for you than Germany. Forget buying of lands as an investment in Nigeria especially when you ain't around. Try and get better paying job and continue saving as best as you can than buying a property here that could be a hoax or taken away by more powerful individual or thugs and nothing you will do about it. Talking from experience anyway. Good luck...

Best advise so far....

In all ramifications, I prefer Germany to Canada.
My only problem here is that my German is not yet good.
I really love Germany honestly.

Though it's a very hard country

I think it’s better to stay in Germany if you can get a job after study. I believe you can handle the language if you put more energy and focus on it.
Canada, USA, UK will all break even with whatever you will earn in Germany. If you come dey Northern Europe wetin you go do. Germans open the job market and most students got jobs, so you should be fine and considering you can explore Europe. In Berlin and Hamburg I saw many Africans properly represented in the job market.

What are the requirements for applying for a work permit in Germany?

Goodmorning Ladies and Gentlemen.
I am Basalt by name and I came to Germany last year(2019) October for my MSc studies with a little amount of Money and a partially borrowed block account from my inlaw (his money and my money).
On arrival in Germany, I took only a few courses and got a job outside my city and also got a mini-job. I did all my monthly expenses from my Mini job and used my main job to completely pay back my debt within a few months of arrival.

Now, that's not the discussion at hand.
I need advice especially from people who have lived abroad or have many years of experience in life.
My visa still counts till 2022 and I can even extend it if I don't finish my studies by then.
According to German policy, once you graduate from the University, you will be given 18 months to get a professional job or return back to your country.
Returning back to Nigeria is totally out of my plan at least for now because I came from a very poor family without any job connection and I am really enjoying Europe.
I plan to buy land or start building a house (I saved millions of naira and will even save more as time goes) but my friend who is also a student here discouraged me against that saying that my root is not yet fixed abroad that I should wait and continue investing in myself and undergoing professional training until I get permanent residency before investing. That I should always keep saving because it is not certain that I will get a professional job after graduation since my course is not in Information Technology which is currently booming in Germany. That even if I don't get a job, I can use the money to migrate to Canada or any other country of my choice.
He asked What if you invest the money now and don't get a job after graduation, what will you do after the 18 months of post graduation visa since you don't have any backup from home who will help you out financially.

What do you guys think. I need opinions

Which God do u serve bro, I'm from a poor background and I can't wait to vacate here

The problem is that with German student visa, you are not allowed to do business.
Many people are telling me to help them import cars with their money ready but I can't, I am restricted by my visa.
I just need to get a permanent residency then things will be easier
The land is green already ..
Get a skill that will help you stay in Europe.
It's better to know your course of study so that some knowledgeable people can advice you on which skill to acquire.
Environmental studies and Supply chain are good examples.

That's a good idea, you know. Just that those machines might be more expensive (although second hand) than Chinese. Nonetheless, it's a good business idea. Better than building a house for rent which will be generated in naira.
Not everybody go for China products especially machineries. If you have a Italian made electric DC motor (electromotive) right now, their are buyers waiting to pay.

Please try to save as much money as you can in Germany and forget about investing in Nigeria, at least until you find yourself in Nigeria. This is what experience has thought me.
Nigeria is not worth investing in at this time except you plan to invest and have all your ROI domiciled in Nigeria. I would rather suggest you save up and see what the future has for you in your location. You will need your savings at your location more than in Nigeria. And if you eventually decide to return to Nigeria, start your investment when you return.
