Hello everyone,
My kid sister just called and said she was denied. I’m trying to console her but she wants to apply again.

She is to resume sometime in the 3rd week of January 2021.

Can I book another date for her before then?

Please what do I do and how do I go about it?

She hasn’t eaten breakfast and has refused to eat since then.

This is nice! Thanks for updating it. But let me add more items based on recent interviews I have read their approval news

Additional items you can go with:

11. Transcript (It could be WES or the copy from your school that you used for your application, but if you don't have access to a copy, it is cool).
12. Proof of employment, mostly ID Card.
13. Degree certificate you have.
14. Proof of sponsorship if being sponsored by an organisation
15. Leave letter (Although not required, but if your interview transcript tilts towards returning to the organisation you currently work after studies, then you better have a leave letter to support that claim. The applicant that got approved at third attempt this morning in Lagos was asked, including her work ID, sponsor letter (sponsored by her employer (though she has funding).

All the best guys!

Can you apply for study leave before you received Visa approval?

Good day everyone,
has anyone applied to any Hbcu's recently I would love some advice to get past the transcripts evaluation process.
I'm applying through the common black application.

Use SpanTran, their services is fast and straight forward. I had to abandon all the money I spent on WES because of their delays. I use SpanTran, they evaluated my Credentials in less than 10 days. But they released it to my school after they received my official transcript from my Nigerian school. Approximately 1month. It was because of the delays in sending my official transcript from my School

It depends on the school and the program you're interested in.

From what I gather, most programs in the US will allow you enrol in a PhD directly with a BS. I personally do not recommend it if you're interested in a very complex program such as the types you'd find in Physics or Maths or Chemistry, say - unless of course, you got your degree from a US or Canadian or Western Europe or Chinese college (this list is not exhaustive). For all programs in Engineering, Statistics etc, you shouldn't have much of an issue adapting. Please be mindful that I am writing from the perspective of a STEM graduate.

Thanks for this, a BSc (Mathematical sciences) with 2.1 (3.9 CGPA) (graduated from Nigeria, with 6 years experience as a Statistician in Nigeria, can he apply for PhD directly in Computer science or Statistics

I don't know about booking another date cos I'm also in the same shoes - got denied today in Abuja as well but tell your sister to dust her feet and move on so she can restrategize better. Its not the end of the world.

Hope she don chop?

Yes you can, Math, Stat and Computer science are all tied together so you should have the prerequisite to study a PhD in the other two courses with a Math BSc.

You can also check the admission requirements for each school to know the prerequisite needed

Visa Approved at Lagos Consulate.

Interview was pretty short and here goes:

Me & VO at the same time: Hi, Good morning.
VO: Pass me your I-20 and passport. (Sevis receipt was there too)

VO: So where are you going?
Me: I’m going to the University of Iowa for my PhD in ***

VO: Oh really? Tell me about your course.
Me: Honestly I lost focus here and started talking plenty. Lool. He even cut me short. Chai.

VO: How do you intend to pay for your studies?
Me: I have a full tuition scholarship and monthly stipend. (I actually have a small deficit ($487) but I was advised to wait till I’m asked before volunteering the usual “and the deficit will be paid for by my mum” information)
He never asked and I didn’t say a word though I had bank statement with me.

VO: (Looks at his screen; I guess my DS160 is where he got the info from) Oh you’re a Dentist?
Me: Yes, please.

VO: How long have you been a dentist?
Me: Mentioned.

VO: So what have you done since then?
Me: I have since completed my internship (Housejob) and one year Nysc.

*Types for what felt like eternity. Hovers his hand over the green paper on his table and I’m like OH HELL NOOOOO. Then his hand lands on the white paper. LOL.

VO: I intend to issue your visa.. be ready in one week... bla bla. I wasn’t even listening again at this point lol.

Special thanks to everyone on this platform. The least I could do is come back and post my transcript. I skipped course details on purpose but I’m happy to give my full details to anyone who needs. I had actually been denied before (B1/B2) so I was a bit worried about that but it all worked out well.
Word of advice: Look the VO right in the eye and speak your truth!
Pray too, He listens.
Cheers, guys.

The immunization you need depend on your school, go to the site for international student and get the immunization requirements. There's no general one

I was only asked for my i20 at the port of entry. No yellow test or vaccine but if you can, do the covid test like 3days before ur trip and hv ur result with u. Some airlines demands for it.

Spring1000:
Please can anyone help with documents required at the Port of entry?
Also is the yellow fever vaccine and yellow card a requirement for F1 students?

I cannot speak to your chances of getting into a PhD in computer science program - don't know much about those. With regards to PhD in statistics, it depends on the competition for the available slots in the universities you're considering. Your 6 years experience as a statistician is definitely a plus.

Do you really not know anyone in the US? She didn’t ask if you have a relative or some sort; the question wasn’t specific. So, I think if you had even had a chat with someone in the US, your response to that question should have been “YES”. Just what I think though!!

The person that told me about her said the same thing you just said but the difference was that when she asked if the person has a relative in the US the girl answered YES, her mother’s uncle. That was when she was denied.
