Age and talent are two different things. Messi and Aguero at 40 have more talent than a 20 year old mikel

40 out of 60... now that's huge. Very huge indeed.

But seriously, I don't even rate any U-17 tournament that highly. Now, this is exactly how I view U-17 tourneys: Just go in there, play, enjoy and express yourselves as much as possible and come out with any result that you can. After all, this is supposed to be a tourney for teenagers.

It shouldn't be a do-or-burst affair.

This is something we can actually get some Secondary school students to play in.

You make no sense. Believe Messi and Aguero using their real age at your own peril. Age cheating (football age if you like) has been in the game since it became competitive especially in Southern America and Africa. Even Europe has a way around age fixing when it comes to the round leather game. If Nigeria weren't successful at this stage (of course, it is the most successful country in the world at this level of the competition) this MRI scan wouldn't have been an issue in the first place. The politics in football is more complicated than the one in government.

Yes I can compare them. Mikel's age is valid and that is why he is still very active in football. Because Messi is brilliant does not mean those that are not on his level of brilliance lied about their age.

There is no honour in cheating for underage tournaments. Nigeria is the record holder for most u-17 wins but nothing to show at senior level. With good scouting and coaching then the truly u-17 will shine and hopefully grow into the senior team and make waves. Macauley chrisantus that is Toni Kroos mate. Where is he today

. You're damn right, by the time they get to 28 or 30 years their case will be like" they get body no engine" good for them. That more reason they can only win under 17 world cup because that time they are playing with their children. They should ban them for life. Serve them right.

I know a 33 year old man who hopes to play soccer professionally while posing as a 19 year old. Back when he was 26 he claimed he was 16. This put his foot into the door of a soccer career. Unfortunately that didn’t last long. He claims he’ll stop at nothing to get signed with any international team even if it means playing as a 22 year old when 45. Any age above 46, he said, will bring his search to a concluding halt.

The best place to get genuine under17 players are our secondary schools.

The country is messed up already so people indulge in anything to get outa poverty......But this isn't helping our sports.

Until we as a nation eschew mediocrity and materialism and begin praising hard work and integrity Nigeria is going no where in life.

We still don't get it . We are still talking hausa Igbo Yoruba for our problems

We area till blaming education as if before western education we never had good leaders.

The problem is we have switched every goal with money hence this is the result

Nigeria should be divided that's the only solution unless the people can reorientate themselves from the grass root level upwards.

Look at all of us in the south celebrating what happens in the north while the north all celebrates all the misfortune in the south how can we grow ...

We don't see other regions as neighbors we see them as liability.. we all feel if Nigeria separates our individual regions will do best and this is the problem

Until we accept one Nigeria not by force but by choice then forget it , we ain't going nowhere

Even if Nigeria is divided, it won't stop age cheating.

Age cheating happens because them lads want to play abroad, in a rich European club.Just like Kanu who went from being a poor lad to being very wealthy because of Japan 93 world cup.

So even if they divide Nigeria, so long as you can get the chance to go to Europe and get to earn 25000 pounds weekly...instead of staying in Nigeria and earning 500 pounds monthly which won't get paid regularly self, players will lie.

Thankfully MRI is catching them out well well.

Mikel is still very active so are Messi and Agüero. Can you name 5 players from 2003 under 17 that are still as fit and as competitive as Mikel?

Most of his mates are retired and have left competitive football years ago.

Look at this photo below. He was also in the Argentinian squad at Netherlands 2005. He is 33. If he was Nigerian or African, there will be a few eyebrows raised.

The coaches are complicit. They should be able to identify those above 17 before MRI screening with minimal error. The quest to succeed by all means is killing football development. They should go to secondary schools round the country and get players within the age limits and stop deceiving themselves. How can an NPFL player be under-17?

True. Doing well at youth level does not necessarily mean you will have a great career at senior level.(Everyone talks about how the Nigerian U17 side of 1985 did not do well because they were old...but no one talks about how the German side that faced them...who were the 'right' age did not necessarily do that well too at senior level)

But he is right about how age cheating has affected our football.
