Buy tomatoes, the round ones, not oblong. The round ones are more colorful. Add it tatashe, if you don’t see big one, the long one would serve. Blend together and steam it.

To cook your stew, slow fry on low heat in oil that covers the tomatoes. Don’t stop till your tomatoes has pores and looks segmented. Same applies to your jollof rice and spag. You won’t have any use for sachet tomatoes.

The colour would depend on the ratio of tomatoes to tatashe and how long you fry.

I don’t use tin tomatoes in my stew and you won’t know. Done with that shii.

even if u dont have blender at home if u buy ur tomatoes and onions and pepper u can blend everything in the market nau.there are ladies with grinding machines on wait to grind ur tomatoes for u.The time i was benin if i wanted to prepare rice and stew i would go to the market and buy fresh tomatoes with pepper and onions then i will give everything to the ladies who blend to blend it for me.I am sure it is like that in other markets across the country.By the way how stew wey dem just use tomato prepare go even taste.It will taste so bland .Ur rice actually taste better if u use fresh tomatoes.Its not even costly to blend ur tomatoes in the market.With just 50 naira the women will blend everything for u.I dont know if them don increase the price for blending now sha.

well I have tried that many many many times to horrific results. You sometimes create food threads, if you can, show step by step in pictures how the fried tomato paste should look like so one knows it's okay/done and it's time to add stock. Such that the end result will look like that third pic. Always assumed only tin tomatoes can make it consistent with a reddish look that indicates the stew will likely be sweet.

Lol, I love your use of the word consistent, I use that word a lot to describe my stew. I used to think same @ tin tomatoes being responsible, not anymore. Your mixture is the base, your deep frying is the crucial stage, then the amount of stock you add.

Lol. I am actually inyamuri, but yea, you need to deep fry your tomatoes to get the best out of it. You can drain the excess oil after frying, but don’t fry with small oil. Burns and thins out your tomatoes.

Maybe the word cover was extreme, it should be about half an inch above the tomatoes.

Even though I have tin tomatoes at home cos I buy plenty just be in cases, the one I bought last year is still remaining about 8tins and I've not use tin tomatoes for a long time.
Fresh tomatoes are cheaper than all these things you pwot buy. With that same 200naira you can get fresh tomatoes enogu to do for you what this one can do. Fresh tomatoes are far cheaper and healthier.

You could use tumeric to get that desired look you want for jollof rice while you use little fresh tomatoes and tatashe (preferred). Just use tumeric like curry but add a little more and unlike curry it barely adds another taste to the rice.
