I couldn't watch, but I think the award was great. I like the settings and style, as a matter of fact it's actually the best Slammy award for me cos it actually felt real and not for entertainment purpose. However, I felt some where unecessary like the The Undertaker's farewell(great respect for the Dead Man) and best musical performance which Elias won. Honestly, I doubt they was any serious competition or any at all. Maybe it's just me. I don't know if that's how awards operate aside that, I think it was great. |

WWE NXT Reviews recaps and reactions Pull Apart! NXT continues to build a rivalry between Rhea Ripley & Raquel González that feels like the makings of an epic feud. This week, Dakota Kai faced the Nightmare to prove she doesn’t need Raquel to win. But spoiler: She does. She always did. During their bout, Kai targeted Ripley’s arm, giving her an opportunity against her imposing opponent. It wasn’t enough. González walked out to watch and possibly grab the attention of her foe. But she just ended up watching her friend lose. That’s when the Texan marched to the ring to confront her rival. Referees ran out to try to prevent this from happening, but they were pretty powerless. After a sweet stare down, this turned into a full on pull apart brawl. Pull aparts are great as long as they’re not over used, and NXT doesn’t go to that well often. This is program that deserves it. In a matter of months, they made this feel like a rivalry that they can revisit many times down the road, in NXT or on Raw/SmackDown. They used Ripley, a relatively new star in her own right, to make another one in Raquel. Street Fight NXT kicked off this week with a tag team street fight between the champs Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch and Drake Maverick & Killian Dain. This match helped reestablish Drake Maverick as more than a joke. When he was arrived to NXT as part of the cruiserweight title tournament that earned him his NXT contract, he was a serious competitor. Yes, he was a big time underdog, but he was meant to be taken seriously. Then he paired off with Killian Dain and suddenly he was a goofy liability for that team. That’s not terrible in itself. It’s Maverick’s biggest strength. But it’s limited so it was good for this match to present as the never-say-die underdog that he also works well as. The tag team champs tried as hard as they could to neutralize Dain, and wisely so. He’s far and away the threat of that team. They succeeded and picked apart the plucky Maverick. Danny Burch took to whipping the poor guy with his own belt. As Beth Phoenix said “this is getting uncomfortable” and Drake sold that brutality without ever giving up. In the end, the good guys didn’t get the job done. It was unlikely they were going to. But this did its job in presenting Dain & Drake as more than just comedy. This is a team that can compete in the tag division. Bad Intentions Mercedes Martinez is back! This was a bit of a swerve return. The segment was set up with a backstage interview where Toni Storm accused Io Shirai in ducking her. She took that time to remind us that she has a win over Shirai in the second Mae Young Classic. These words peeved the champ when she heard about them. She marched to the ring, demanding they “hit my music” as she did. (Io Shirai is such a badass.) The Genius of Sky marched to the ring and set up a chair, waiting for Toni Storm to walk out. That’s when Martinez struck, coming in behind her and locking the champ in a sleeper. Mercedes then dragged the champ out of the ring and slammed her headfirst into scaffolding before throwing her into the fence. The announcers informed us Shirai was stretchered out. I appreciate the misdirect. Not only did it make Martinez’s return more of a surprise, and it was already going to be a surprise, but it set the stage for the bigger feud between Toni Storm and Io Shirai. While it’s possible that Martinez could beat Io, I don’t think it’s going that way. Shirai has bigger plans with Storm. This should be a great program. Here We Go Again Well, Velveteen Dream is back again. It’s always tough to discuss Dream given his history of allegations. Since those, he’s disappeared from TV multiple times. We don’t know for sure if his absences are directly related, but it’s hard to believe they’d keep a guy they’re pretty high on off TV otherwise. This was a curious return because unlike all the others, he just started losing immediately. He talked some trash to Adam Cole backstage, this set up a main event for the evening, and then he lost clean. This could just be the beginning of whatever new plan they have for the young wrestler. But if it is, they surely didn’t hint at what it was. Coming back and taking an L right away doesn’t hint at any push, but at this point, they probably want to wait before they go there again. Very Gargano Christmas The Gargano Christmas celebration were comedy bits aired in segments throughout the night. They took place at their home and involved gift giving and some caroling. There were some funny bits. I especially liked Johnny gifting Indi Hartwell a PS5 box without the PS5. “The PS5 is actually mine.” Cold, dude. Luckily, he had a gift she really appreciated, which was an official Gargano Family nickname: Indi Wrestling. It set up a “we support indie wrestling” pun. Johnny gave his love (not the North American title, but he did zoom in it when he discussed the “love of his life” earlier) a wheel from Shotzi Blackheart’s destroyed tank. Candice LeRae still has a program with Blackheart and this is a nice reminder of its roots. Austin Theory is still a big, dull goof, but they’re playing up the fact he hasn’t really found a way to fit into the family yet. All The Rest: - To represent the NXT title, they aired a video of both Kyle O’Reilly and Finn Bálor separately watching their TakeOver 30 title match. The idea here was to put over how killer that match was (and it was) and let us know the next one will be awesome as well. It also did a good job putting over the idea that this is a rematch we need to see. - Leon Ruff defeated Timothy Thatcher by roll up. It was because Thatcher was distracting in waiting for Tommaso Ciampa would come out, but a wins a win, and it’s good to see Ruff is still a player of sorts in NXT. Ciampa then dropped Thatcher, setting up a FIGHT PIT match. With his win, Ruff will get his North American title rematch next week. - Isaiah “Swerve” Scott got his win back from Jake Atlas, and he wasn’t gracious in victory, giving Atlas the ‘suck it’ sign. Looks like Swerve is headed heel with his actions. Jake didn’t shake his hand, but I don’t blame him. - So Xia Li & Boa went through their torture again this week, but they seemed into it this week. This likely means they’ll be on TV soon now that they’ve survived their training. - Bronson Reed defeated Ashante “Thee” Adonis in a squash match to establish that he’s back and will be a force to reckoned with. - Tyler Rust, with Malcolm Bivens at his side, defeated Ariya Daivari. This makes him 1-0 with Big Malc at his side. This was a solid show, with some strong offerings from the women’s side and a fun street fight. Otherwise, this show was a lot of smaller stuff that was not very essential |

WWE Smackdown reviews recaps and reactions Big win Purple here, and wishing everyone a very Happy Holidays! Let’s get right into this pre-taped Christmas episode, The Intercontinental title match main event was made a Lumberjack match to Sami Zayn’s chagrin. He blamed Daniel Bryan since he always said the Intercontinental championship should be defended all the time. It would appear that Zayn had a deal worked out with the heel lumberjacks, since every time Big E was sent to the outside, they would pile up on him and attack. Sami dove onto Big E after the heels set him up in front of the announce table. Sami tried for a Helluva Kick but Big E slammed him down on the mat. Sami did a sunset flip powerbomb for a near fall! E speared Zayn through the ropes and all of the lumberjacks started brawling with each other. Zayn tried to take advantage and run away, but they got him back into the ring. Big E big splash and big ending put Sami Zayn down and Big E is the NEEEWWWW Intercontinental champion! All of the babyfaces celebrated with E in the ring. What a wonderful ending to Christmas Day. I am elated that E is the new Intercontinental champion. He deserves it so much. He’s the rightful champion right now and while WWE didn’t jump start this push as soon as New Day were split, I’m happy that they finally got to this conclusion. It would have added a little extra awesomeness if they had Woods and Kingston there to celebrate with him. They had Raw superstars as lumberjacks! Semantics. Big E is the new deserving champion, and this, plus a segment we’ll talk about in a bit, may have telegraphed what WrestleMania is going to look like in a few months. And while it’s not what I originally predicted or wanted, the story for it makes a whole lot of sense. Please never end this feud Reigns and Owens immediately started punching each other as the bell rang. Reigns slammed Owens into the cage and did a Samoan drop with urgency. Reigns countered a pop up powerbomb with a leg drop and I swear I’ve never seen that before! Owens kept that babyface fire throughout this match, getting right back on Reigns when he caught a breath. Owens’ pop up powerbomb connected and got him a near fall. He caught so much breath in fact, that he did a beautiful fisherman’s buster! Owens kicked out of a Superman Punch and that got Reigns angry. He locked the Guillotine in as he got Owens between the cage and rope, but Owens grabbed Reigns’ head and countered! Roman’s sell of getting choked out by the top rope was phenomenal. KO climbed up the cage, but Reigns stopped him. KO superkicked him on the top rope and went for a Swanton but met Reigns’ knees. What a sequence at the end, where Owens was juuuust outside the cage but Jey Uso got involved once again and handcuffed Owens to the cage, and Reigns slowly walked down the steps to retain. Owens called him a little bitch and you could feel the emotion behind that. That’s how good Owens is at this pro wrestling thing. Both men are very good at this professional wrestling thing. And Jey Uso is an asshole who must be put down. Everyone in this story is killing it. The way they did the end of the match looks like this feud isn’t quite over yet, either. Good! I need more! The Rest Charlotte and Asuka defeated BayMella and Sasha Banks and Bianca Belaire - Charlotte and Bianca had a really awesome minute and a half where they did a double drop kick and a double kip up at the same time and mocked each other. Immediately I want more of these two and everyone else can clear out, but sadly I can’t get what I want. Bayley had a near fall on Asuka and both she and Carmella gained up on her. Both women did a great job isolating Asuka until Asuka got comeuppance. Asuka tagged Bianca and everything broke down, until Bianca tagged Sasha in and she eliminated the BayMella team! Charlotte locked the Figure 8 on Sasha and Bianca used her long hair to pull Sasha to safety! That was an awesome spot! Sadly, Reginald and Bayley got involved and that led to Charlotte pinning Bianca. This was a fun match and The Riott Squad were shown watching this backstage. Sooo looks like Charlotte and Asuka will be making another appearance on SmackDown soon. Daniel Bryan defeated Jey Uso - The asshole Jey Uso attacked Bryan before the match and dominated him for a few minutes. Bryan got some momentum back, but Jey hit a Samoan Drop and stopped it. Every time Bryan tried to rally, Jey halted his momentum. Bryan launched Jey over the top rope and then did a suplex from the top rope. Bryan took advantage of Jey tweaking his left leg and targeted it with kicks. He had Jey in a Yes! Lock and then transitioned into a leg submission, but Jey got to the bottom rope. They both brawled and Bryan did the running knee to win. This was a great victory for Bryan in a well wrestled match for both men. While I don’t want Owens to be done with the bloodline, I don’t really want Bryan to be done with them either. Though it might be since Bryan announced himself as an entrant into the 2021 Royal Rumble. Originally I wanted Big E winning the Rumble but I don’t think they could go wrong with Bryan and Reigns at WrestleMania, either. This was one of the best SmackDown shows I’ve seen in a number of weeks. It also had maybe the best cage match I’ve ever seen on it, and Big E winning the IC title. Grade: A+ I’m too happy, y’all. It’s Christmas I loved this show |

WWE Raw Reviews recaps and reactions Burning questions Alexa Bliss swung away on her swing. She said she can’t wait to show Him what she built and hopes He comes back for Legends night next week to meet his hero, Hulk Hogan. She called Orton down Price is Right style and his music played, and Orton didn’t show. She tried again, and the same happened. Orton must not want to play anymore. Well actually, he does, but not in the ring! Firefly Fun House music played and Orton walked into the Fun House. He said he thought he’d take advantage of the Fun House being empty and see what kind of things they had going on there. He kicked Huskus the Pig, threw Mercy the Buzzard into Abby the Witch, and tore Ramblin’ Rabbit’s head off. Bliss challenged him for later, but didn’t specify what for. In the main event, Alexa walked down to the ring and summoned Orton. He came out and asked where He is. Alexa said it’s not about Him, but about her. She went out to get a present and opened it in the ring. In the present was a gas can and a box of matches. She placed it in front of Orton and challenged him to burn her. She put a trail of gas from the middle of the ring to Orton and he wouldn’t do it. She got angry and said he doesn’t have the guts even though he said he was demented. He’s nothing but a little bitch. Goodness gracious. Orton said he wants to see people in pain but he knows that she wants him to do it. The lights went out, Fiend style, and then came back on with Orton and a lit match in his hands. The announcers were begging him not to drop it on the gas, and then the camera went to black and the show was over. Kind of a strange ending there. I absolutely love Alexa’s role in all of this. She’s doing some of her best work right now. I also really liked how the puppets in the Fun House were not lively. They were literally just puppets. Fiend can totally come back and Mandible Claw Hulk Hogan next week, though. Friendly mishaps Drew McIntyre admitted that he should have known better last week, when Sheamus said he wouldn’t touch Keith Lee. He went through their history and then Sheamus came out. He said technically he stuck to his word and didn’t touch Keith… until after the match! Which okay yeah he wasn’t wrong there… but still! So Keith came out and wasn’t pleased with either man, which I liked. He wasn’t happy with Drew for vouching for Sheamus and said eventually, Sheamus would turn on him too. Drew got the mood lighter, but Sheamus Brogue Kicked Keith again. Keith Lee went after Sheamus for that, and knocked him over the top rope. Sheamus regained control and went all the way up top and sent Keith over the announce desk. Keith had a wicked forearm strike on Sheamus that looked brutal. Then he did what you could call a spinebuster without Keith really even moving. It was awesome. Sheamus showed his incredible strength with a White Noise. But in the end, Keith got Sheamus up for the Spirit Bomb and won! I totally didn’t expect that. It’s particularly interesting, because we were told that Vince McMahon sent Keith Lee back to the PC for some fine tuning. Now, he’s going to be facing Drew for the WWE Championship on “Raw Legend’s Night” next week. This is incredibly stupid I’m highlighting this moment because I need to rant. If Morrison cashed in the Money in the Bank briefcase, Miz shouldn’t have wrestled the match at TLC. Wrestling in the match signifies a cash in to me. How stupid does this company look, that Miz wrestled and lost in the TLC match, and then they just give him the briefcase back because someone else cashed it in. So if he grabbed the title, that means that he would have had to give it back according to this, too. But I’m sure they wouldn’t have ran that angle. It’s so stupid and lazy. It’s Adam Pearce switching men’s tag team titles between New Day and Street Profits stupid. Now I have to see more of those dumb ass Miz TV segments with the two unfunny dorks. Defeated Miz was much better, as we saw tonight in his match with Gran Metalik. The Rest The Hurt Business defeated The Positively Hard Bros - This was a really fun match. Riddle was isolated from the rest as the Hurt Business worked him over. Lashley hit these vicious elbows on him in the ropes. Woods set Alexander up in the ring and did Brodie Lee’s set up into the discus clothesline, which Tom Phillips said “Yeah yeah yeah, a big Harper clothesline” and that brought tears to my eyes. Jeff Hardy got locked in the Hurt Lock once again and tapped out. This was definitely the match of the night for me. Gran Metalik defeated Miz - This was actually a fun little match between these two. Metalik really had some urgency trying to put Miz away. Metalik did an awesome spot over the top rope to Miz on the floor which looked awesome. For a little peek behind the curtain, I had originally put Miz defeated Gran Metalik because I just knew that was going to be the ending, and I was pleasantly surprised to see I was wrong! Miz is selling his loss of the Money in the Bank so it makes sense for him to lose here. Shayna Baszler defeated Dana Brooke - Ow ow ow! Shayna really bent Dana’s arm in ways that left my arm tingling. Shayna dominated for a majority of this bout and then locked in a Kirifuda Clutch on the outside. Dana built up some momentum, but Shayna locked in another Kirifuda Clutch for the win. Mandy went to check on Dana, and then Shayna put her in a Kirifuda Clutch! I really liked this dominant showing for her and I hope that it continues. I was really enjoying her before they put her with Nia. AJ Styles defeated Elias - This match came about because AJ was on the phone and couldn’t hear over Elias’ guitar playing. Omos stood very tall over Jaxson Ryker and made him feel uncomfortable. That’s a babyface move right there. Elias countered a Phenomenal Forearm and went up to the top, but AJ hit a pele kick. Elias got a near fall on a TKO. Styles won with the Phenomenal Forearm. The best part of the match was when Jaxson cowered to Omos. Another babyface move. The match wasn’t bad though. It’s nice not seeing the 10th iteration of a match in a row. Charlotte Flair wins via disqualification - Nia was trying to injure Charlotte’s arm again, which was a nice thing to see. Charlotte gave her a flurry of elbows to the face and Nia threw her back into the turnbuckles which looked legitimately painful. Charlotte evaded a leg drop and did a Figure Four, but Shayna locked in a Kirifuda Clutch for a DQ. Match was okay, but Nia doesn’t really do much so it doesn’t make her interesting to watch. Mustafa Ali defeated Ricochet - Ricochet and Ali are fun to watch. Get your minds out of the gutter, people. (I’m sure someone’s mind went there… right? Not just me?) There was a bunch of interference, surprise surprise! Ali hit Ricochet from the top rope to the floor and Ricochet sold it so well I thought he was legitimately injured. The interference in this match was maddening. ALL of this should have been called a DQ. The referee saw all of it! That’s absolutely insane. By the way, this was one of Ricochet’s best performances on the main roster. So Ali won, and then grabbed a mic to ask what Ricochet’s answer is to joining RETRIBUTION, and Ricochet faked him out and gave him a Recoil. That wasn’t bad, nor was most of the match. We had a very nice graphic for the late Jon Huber, formerly known in WWE as Luke Harper, and both Tom Phillips and Drew McIntyre said “It’s Monday, you know what that means.” That was a great touch, as well as Alexa saying “yeah, yeah, yeah” in her promo and the discus clothesline spot in the 8 man tag. WWE NXT Reviews recaps and reactions Sold NXT had one real baller segment this week that hyped up a New Year’s Evil show that was already rather hyped. Finn Bálor & Kyle O’Reilly won the Year-End Award for match of the year, a choice that we agreed with. They worked it into an angle to sell next week’s title match. Finn didn’t take his award, leaving it with General Manager William Regal. But he took Kyle’s to give to him. The champ marched to the ring and called out his challenger for next week. He told KOR that he doesn’t need the award to remember the match. He has the hardware to do that - not just the NXT title over his shoulder but the three screws in his jaw. O’Reilly knew Finn’s gesture was patronizing, that it was a consolation prize. But he told the champ the hardware wasn’t beneath him. Because it was proof that he deserves to share a ring with Bálor and deserves to be on top of the card. The champ then told his challenger that next week, he’s going to get revenge for what O’Reilly did to his jaw. This was strong promo work from both men, particularly O’Reilly, to really amp up the excitement for next week’s match. However, they were interrupted by Karrion Kross and Scarlett. Kross’ dark angel told the men in the ring that it doesn’t matter who wins next week because the gold belongs to Karrion. Add in Dunne trying to step up to Finn after the Brit beat Roderick Strong, and the title scene is getting a bit crowded. In a good way. Kross has other problems though. He he was dropping his “Tick tock” catchphrase, Damian Priest was suddenly behind him. But he didn’t attack his New Year’s Evil foe from behind. He waited for him to turn around. Then these two beat the crap out of each other all over the arena. I’ve said this the last few weeks, but Priest has found his groove as badass babyface. Holding his own against the unstoppable Kross helped raise his star. I doubt the Archer of Infamy wins next week, but if they book it similar to how they did this brawl, he’ll be just fine. This segment has me more excited for New Year’s Evil than I already was. Curse Broken Johnny Gargano was worried coming into this week’s North American title defense. Gargano has never successfully defended a singles title. He felt he was cursed so he and the rest of The Way tried their best to avoid anything that could cause bad juju. They inexplicably saw a black cat at the end of the hallway and walked the other way in what was my favorite of their bits this week. (Plus, the idea of someone bringing their cat in from home for this bit tickles me.) However, by the time he walked through the curtain for the match, Austin Theory jinxed him, he broke a mirror, and he walked under a ladder. Fortunately, none of that affected the outcome of his match with Leon Ruff as Johnny finally beat the man and retained a title. It was a fun match, and a reminder that Ruff is a really good wrestler. In his time since upsetting the leader of the Way to initially win the gold, he’s become much more than an enhancement talent who had a fluke win. He has integrated more offense into his matches while still playing the underdog. It’s a formula that will suit him well going forward. This entire angle has made Leon a player in NXT and hopefully he continues to grow on Wednesday nights. Now it’s time for Gargano and his family’s next feud. I wonder if Kushida is next on the docket. Still Rules The Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic is back in a couple weeks so we had some tag team focus this week. The Grizzled Young Vets defeated Breezango in a competitive match. But once again, Ever-Rise (who RULES by the way) stole the show with their post match comedy antics. Chase Parker and Matt Martel walked out after the match with a referee who they were kind of using to make it look like she was holding them back. But when she was tired of their crap, she left and suddenly these dudes changed their tunes, wanting none of GYV. Ever-Rise has slowly gone from “Who are these guys?” to two dudes I find hilarious every week. I hope NXT uses the Dusty Classic to present them as more than a comedy duo to help round out their presentation. We don’t know if Ever-Rise is in the Dusty at all. We do know that Undisputed ERA are in it, with the new team of Adam Cole and Roddy Strong representing the Year-End Award winning unit. Big Bronson Bronson Reed picked up a win over Isaiah “Swerve” Scott. It wasn’t a squash, but I felt they put themselves in a corner booking this match. Big Thicc isn’t going to lose after just re-debuting. It’s clear they have big plans for him. But Swerve is also going through a heel turn. They discussed his new attitude and lack of sportsmanship on commentary tonight. A loss so soon could risk hurting the change he’s undergoing. Given he’s in a transition state, this loss shouldn’t really hurt though. Maybe it’ll just reinforce his embracing the dark side. All the Rest: - Pete Dunne defeated Roderick Strong in a match pitting up to long term rivals. I wonder if Dunne is going to run through the ERA... maybe to get to Kyle as champion? - Raw’s Lince Dorado and Gran Metalik interrupted a Santos Escobar promo when he was talking about how William Regal is going to have trouble finding someone who can challenge him. Dorado took exception to Escobar saying what lucha is before two thirds of the Lucha House Party (are they still the LHP?) defeated Raul Mendoza and Joaquin Noah. Escobar will defend his cruiserweight title against Metalik next week. - Mercedes Martinez squashed a poor soul this week. I’m glad they are leaning into her heel persona this time around. She was a heel last time, but they also paired her with goofy Robert Stone, which detracted. Now she’s just a killer. - Xia Li & Boa’s training is done and they’ll be returning to NXT next week. It’s about time, but now I’m starting to wonder if this is going to translate in the ring. And whether greener talent like Xia and Boa are going to be able to perform at a level that it needs. Clearly NXT thinks so, so we’ll find out next week. - We got a hype video for the Raquel González/Rhea Ripley Last Woman Standing match next week. It was very good like most of their videos are. This played into their real life friendship to make their feud very personal. Before it was more about two powerhouses clashing. Now there’s more to it |

WWE Smackdown reviews recaps and reactions SURVIVE OWENS SURVIVE Roman Reigns wished us a happy new year and said 2020 was a rough year, but when you’re the Head of the Table and the Tribal Chief, you make it work. Paul Heyman was discarded and then was saved by him. Then Jey Uso became Main Event Uso because Jey is no longer the other Uso, and that’s because he acknowledged Reigns as the Tribal Chief. Kevin Owens interrupted and said that he wants Jey Uso because it should embarrass Reigns that after all the stuff he’s put him through, he’s still standing. Owens went to Adam Pearce, who was very hesitant to make the match but ended up doing it for his old friend Kev. I really liked that moment between them. Jey and KO just attacked each other to start that match. KO did a really hard clothesline and senton on the outside. KO started attacking Jey’s ankle and KO screamed “Remember my ankle?” and I love him so much. “I told you you were going to pay. And the worst part is it’s not even your fault.” “He’s your family and he’s doing this to you.” My god. Jey finally superkicked Owens out of the ring, and then he ran into a superkick by Owens. After a commercial, KO hit a stunner and pinned Jey. He tried beating on Jey until Roman showed his face. He grabbed Corey Graves’ mic and told him to come save his family. Owens grabbed the handcuffs under the ring and handcuffed Jey to the top rope. He just kept beating up Jey and then unhooked the handcuffs from the rope and brought him up the ramp to go find Roman. It ended up in the ThunderDome screens as Roman surprise attacked Owens, and then he and Jey battered KO up there with chairs and at one point Jey was choking Owens out with the handcuffs. (Daniel Bryan got fired for this a decade ago!) Roman threw Owens into the LED screens and then off of the stage, like 20 feet down through two tables to end the show. Have I mentioned that I never want this to end? I feel like I say this about every Reigns feud these days. Owens keeps surviving and coming back on his feet, so I can’t wait to see next week! SONYA DEVILLE IS BACK! Sonya Deville is back. SONYA DEVILLE IS BACK! SONYA! DEVILLE! IS! BACK! The Rest Big E and Apollo Crews defeated Corbin and Sami Zayn - This started as a singles match. “Wiggle your little hips” Sami said to Big E. A perfectly shot (and by accident so that’s how you know WWE is better when not planned) moment happened where Big E threw his jacket at Sami while the camera was on him at the announce table and hit him perfectly in the face, and Sami sold it hilariously. E did a gator role in Brodie Lee’s honor. There really wasn’t much of anything though, because as Big E hit the Big Ending on Corbin, Sami ran in to interfere and we got a DQ. E’s first match as champion, and it ended in a DQ. For the tag team match playa playa, Corbin and Sami were able to isolate Apollo from E, and Sami was upset that the Knights of the Lone Wolf weren’t listening to him. E planted Corbin with a belly to belly and a splash. Sami got into an argument with them again and told Corbin to make them listen to him too. So Corbin and the Knights left him and Apollo powerbombed Sami for the win. Big E vs. Corbin turned into Apollo pinning Sami Zayn to win a match. Alright then. This was fine, and helped build to next week and Apollo accepted an open challenge Big E set. Also really appreciated his “Rome to Rochester” (Brodie Lee’s hometown) and “Little Amandas and Nolans” (Brodie’s wife’s and son’s names) worked into his promo. I also liked how Apollo used him helping Big E last week in the Lumberjack match to justify his action. Good stuff all around. Daniel Bryan and Otis defeated Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura - Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura isolated Bryan for most of the match. Bryan dove out to attack Cesaro but Cesaro caught him and gave him a vicious uppercut. Otis finally got tagged in and launched Cesaro over his head! He did the caterpillar but Nakamura made the save. Byran tagged in again and took out Cesaro, and then won with the Yes! Lock. Bryan and Otis were actually a decent team, and the three of them doing this pose and thrusting their hips admittedly got a laugh out of me. I love how much fun Bryan is having. Win the Rumble! Baymella defeated Sasha Banks and Bianca Belair - The match was good, but I mainly need to address this thing with Reginald. I cannot stand when referees do not disqualify people who are clearly getting help from outside interference. A solid month of Reginald diving into the ring and causing chaos all around, and there’s no repercussion for it. It’s maddening. Reginald was literally doing acrobatics and interfering, and NOTHING?!? Come on! For real though he moves around really well and looked cool. Can’t knock that. But... come on! Also, Bianca Belair be losing and that ain’t cool. Dirty Dawgs want gold (or technically silver!) - The Street Profits had a dreadful promo segment, as usual, and then were met with a vicious beatdown by Ziggler and Roode, now dubbed the Dirty Dawgs. I am totally fine with this now, because WWE have nearly killed the Street Profits run with me on the main roster. They’re going to show some sort of vicious side after this attack most likely, but they’ll always return to doing these dumb heavily scripted promos that don’t fit with their characters. I’m tired of it. The Riott Squad defeated Natalya and Tamina - This was a hilarious match! Billie had Natalya and Tamina team up instead of her fighting with one of them. So she spent the whole time coaching and encouraging the both of them. Liv showed a lot of fire going after Tamina and all of a sudden Billie went over to The Riott Squad area and was cheering them on. Liv pinned Tamina and then Billie celebrated with them. HAHAHAHAHA this was amazing. We need to get Liv and Ruby in the tag title scene pretty please! They’ve been winning! SONYA DEVILLE IS BACK! Not sure if I mentioned that. Happy New Year, pals 1 Like |

WWE Raw Reviews recaps and reactions Piles of crap WWE does this really not awesome thing where they get you interested in a show, and then completely fail to deliver. We needed to find out a major thing that they left us with last week - did Randy Orton burn Alexa Bliss alive? Well, we started the show, and it was focused on Hulk Hogan’s phone. Then we saw a shitty opening promo, which did not address the burning of a human being. And then a match, and THEN they made Randy tell us that he didn’t do it. Alrighty then. Cool. This was incredibly stupid. Was this supposed to pop the ratings? Is that all they’ll book Raw for these days? Not to, oh I don’t know… book Raw to make legitimate stars that people want to tune in and see? I know the answer to that already. And we all do, because this show was the embodiment of “pop a rating.” Drew McIntyre’s Next Well then. Talk about a swerve. I was all ready for the Miz to cash in at the end of this show and we’d have a crappy title run to the Royal Rumble. Nope! Instead, Keith Lee and Drew had a really fun match, where Keith did a BIG MAN SPANISH FLY that looked absolutely awesome! Drew gave him a wicked Claymore for the win, and I was waiting for it. Okay here he comes. The legends are on the stage and it’ll work in Vince McMahon’s morbid mind. …. Goldberg’s music plays. Ah. Then Goldberg said that Drew doesn’t respect the legends and he’s challenging him for the WWE title at the Royal Rumble. One - that was total bullshit. Goldberg should’ve been saying that to the guy who was actually going around threatening legends all night long. Two - you know what, fine. Give me Daniel Bryan winning the Royal Rumble now because most likely this means Goldberg isn’t going after Roman anymore. Win win! Miz will just end up cashing in at the Rumble instead. I can’t wait to keep hearing about it during every Miz TV segment til then! Get ready for a “The Night Before the Royal Rumble” promo. Legends Night Shenanigans Tatanka, Sergeant Slaughter, and Alicia Fox had short encounters with new 24/7 champion Angel Garza. Also… Mickie James was involved so I guess she’s a legend now? I mean yes she is a legend, but not like… Tatanka and Sergeant Slaughter type of legend. Isn’t she on the active roster still? Big Show was with Riddle who tried to get him to change his name to Big Bro, and then Show sang the start of his theme with Bro instead and actually doesn’t sound too bad. Then Randy tried to get Big Show to get violent, and he didn’t fall for the mind games. Mark Henry was giving Ricochet a pep talk to deal with RETRIBUTION, and when Ricochet left, Randy came up to him. He said that he has a lot of receipts for all the slams Mark gave him all those years, and he could deliver them now or decide to let Mark scooter on out of there. He was nice enough to only berate Mark as he scooted away. IRS, Molly Holly, and Ric Flair were hanging out and Randy appeared so IRS and Molly Holly just stepped away. (Hey uh didn’t Randy just burn one of those legend’s kids alive a few weeks back?) Randy said Ric taught him everything he knows and is no longer the dirtiest player in the game. Angel Garza went up to Torrie Wilson to give her a rose, but as she was in a conversation with Nikki Cross, she pointed down a hallway to a room where apparently Cardi B was waiting and would love a rose. (This actually got WWE tweeting Cardi B and she named dropped WWE in a tweet of her own because people were apparently bombarding her with enough tweets about it. Oh, and she likes Sasha Banks by the way!) Sadly, she wasn’t the B waiting for him. It was the Boogeyman. R-Truth then pinned Angel for the 24/7 Title, and Ron Simmons did his thing. The legends were fine, but mostly unnecessary. Again, this was mainly to pop a rating. Totally necessary to get all of these people around when there’s a global pandemic. The Rest Riddle defeated Bobby Lashley Riddle charged at Bobby to start this match and I loved that. He tried to wear him down quick, but Bobby knows how to get back at it. Loved Riddle taking him out of the ring Royal Rumble style, and then Bobby threw him at the post and he twirled in the air. Riddle kept at him with kicks, and Bobby squashed Riddle with a clothesline. So Bobby put him in the Hurt Lock but Riddle pushed himself off the ropes and the referee had to duck. As the referee ducked, Riddle tapped out. Bobby and MVP thought it was over, but the referee didn’t see it so Riddle schoolboyed Bobby and won. Okay, so, I didn’t really mind that, except like… we live in such a technologically advanced age that I feel like a replay or someone just saying to the referee hey Riddle tapped out there so let’s just restart this or something would play more to modern times( you know like VAR?). I don’t really like finishes like this but I did really enjoy that match, so I’m not too bothered. In the back, Charly interviewed MVP and Bobby and MVP said Bobby was robbed of a victory to which Bobby said he’d beat Riddle’s punk ass. Ooohhhh angry Bobby. I like. Looks like we’ll finally see Bobby defend that US Title soon! Randy Orton defeated Jeff Hardy They did the ears spot again. Eewwwww. How is that never a DQ? Randy tried the DDT, Jeff responded with an atomic drop and a near fall. Jeff got some momentum and hit Whisper in the Wind for another near fall. Randy countered the Twist of Fate with an RKO for the win. These two men really are legends so it’ll be interesting to see the Legends nights when they’re no longer active. New Day defeated Miz and Morrison After going through an H-Phone and dreadful Miz TV segment I thought we weren’t going to be privy to again (but thanks WWE for that Money in the Bank crap) Teddy Long came out and made a tag team match between Hey Hey Ho Ho and New Day. I did laugh at the Undertaker bit, though. A couple of really nice spots, where Kofi flipped right onto his feet and then sent Morrison a full 360 and a quarter around onto his face. Later, Morrison kicked Kofi right in the face before Kofi was able to get his arm up and ow that must have hurt, but Kofi sold it through the next few minutes. Xavier is such a great hot tag and got the win. Look how can you really get into something like this when you watched the first 8 minutes of the show? Good God. Peyton Royce and Lacey Evans defeated Charlotte and Asuka They’re still doing the early stages of a tag team that doesn’t really want to be together between Lacey and Peyton. “Lacey Evans was advancing towards Ric Flair” was something that actually happened as heel announcer Samoa Joe was forced to say “Like many women before her, she might just be smitten with the Nature Boy.” Ugh. The finish of this match was Ric Flair accidentally grabbing Charlotte’s leg instead of Peyton’s and cost Charlotte and Asuka the match. Then Lacey kissed Ric on the cheek. What the hell? Peyton and Lacey are probably being given a tag title match for this. Lucha House Party defeated The Hurt Business They continued the ego trip of Cedric’s in this match. As a result, the flippy boys got a victory over them and that’s another Hurt Business upset. (Yes Riddle tapped, but still!) MVP brought them together and said that they need to get on the same page, but Cedric said that he’s on the winning page, and Shelton doesn’t do anything! Oh yes I am very interested to see what comes next. AJ Styles defeated Elias Elias did a nice sit out chokeslam, and a flying knee to counter the Phenomenal Forearm. There was pleasantly no interference in this match, and after Styles won, Ryker grabbed Elias’ guitar to do what would normally be done during a match. Omos (now suddenly pronounced like Amas) literally kicked it out of his hands and Jaxson went running scared. Good. Dana Brooke defeated Shayna Baszler Shayna Baszler attacked Mandy Rose before their match, so Dana ran out and got in the ring instead. Dana tossed Shayna out, and Shayna went back in and locked in a Kirifuda Clutch but Dana got Shayna on her shoulders for the win. That was pretty interesting, but I’d rather not see Shayna losing matches right after losing the tag titles please. This was a good win for Dana, though 1 Like 1 Share |

WWE NXT Reviews recaps and reactions Lived Up It’s difficult to run a rematch of a highly praised bout. A match that delivered on all levels. That’s what New Year’s Evil’s main event was tasked with. Kyle O’Reilly faced Finn Bálor for the NXT title for the second time in three months. Their first bout was highly regarded and deservedly won NXT’s Match of the Year. They had all that hype coming into tonight’s rematch. Sometimes that makes it difficult to deliver a second time. That second bout will never have the novelty that the first does. The first is the pleasant surprise while the second has a reputation to protect. That makes it all the more impressive that Finn Bálor and Kyle O’Reilly were able to deliver a worthy sequel to their TakeOver 31 main event. Much of that is because these men just have fantastic chemistry. They wrestle in a way that feels like a real fight, doing whatever they need to in order to find the advantage and the other going to great lengths to stop that. It looks ugly in a way a real fight does but isn’t clunky. Their styles mesh perfectly. Kyle O’Reilly seemingly can reverse anything into a submission. Bálor can hold his own there but leans more on his speed and athleticism than Kyle does. And both men can throw strikes. They introduced some turnabout within the story of the match that helped differentiate it from their first bout. In the early goings, the champ had the challenger locked in an abdominal stretch with both arm incapacitated. So KOR bit the rope to force the break. However that proved dangerous as Bálor aggressively kicked the rope, a move that injured Kyle’s jaw. Finn had promised revenge for O’Reilly breaking his jaw at TakeOver 31. With that kick of the ropes, he made good. The entire match, Kool Kyle kept grabbing his injured mouth, which slowed him down on multiple occasions. It likely cost him the match too as he ended up submitting to a hold where the Prince really cranked on his lower face. After his defeat, O’Reilly’s Undisputed brethren joined him in the ring. Finn stared at him, maybe out of respect. Maybe more posturing. Maybe a little of both. The absolute look of dejection in Kyle’s face sold how important this match was. It was an expression that conveyed the agony of defeat, adding more weight to the affair. It was a worthy successor to their original battle and definitely worth a watch if you missed it. Swan Song? Speaking of matches that lived up, this week’s Last Woman Standing match was also quite the battle. Raquel González and Rhea Ripley have a great in-ring rapport, which showed in their first meeting and in the sequel tonight. A Last Woman Standing match is a tough match to pull off because it requires constant down time when the referee is counting to 8 or 9 before a competitor makes it to their feet. These women found a way to negate that. They’d only go down for an extended count after a move that was worthy of it. Big spots usually need a breather anyway. But they avoided other long spells of long counts, ensuring the match wasn’t dragged down. In the middle of the match Dakota Kai interfered on behalf of Raquel, a detail I quite appreciated. González debuted as Kai’s bodyguard and she aided the Kiwi many times. But it was always a one way street, feeling more like an employer/employee situation. Turning the tables allowing Dakota to play that role was an acknowledgement of where González started only earlier last year and a reminder of their partnership and maybe friendship. Unfortunately for Kai, Ripley crammed her in a locker and then moved a crate in front of it so she couldn’t get out. It’s like the bullying days of Shayna Baszler never ended. Raquel picked up the win by slamming Rhea through the stage and making it to her feet prior to 10. Ripley wasn’t even stirring at the end, making this a definitive win for the Texan. This is a win that could catapult her into the women’s title scene at any time. They once against showcased her as a badass killer. (Ripping a fence as an answer to being handcuffed to it was a superb image.) I’ve speculated this could be the Nightmare’s swan song and if it is, she put Raquel over in a big way. Slow The opening match of Damian Priest vs. Karrion Kross was advertised as commercial free so we can see all the action. But maybe this would have been better if it were the length of a standard first segment. Unfortunately, this was a plodding affair that never hit that energy level necessary to kick off a special episode like this. Even the planted crowd, who’s usually excited, didn’t bring any energy here. Maybe they were too busy doom scrolling. Though NXT could have piped in louder crowd noise to supplement that. Maybe the piped in crowd was doom scrolling too. It’s a shame this didn’t hit. I’ve quite enjoyed many of Priest’s matches, but he’s had some of the best dance partners in NXT. There hasn’t been a Kross match I’ve loved yet, though he had a couple decent ones against the likes of Keith Lee and Dominik Dijakovic. But these two just didn’t mesh. Their mutual brawling styles led to a slow pace that only sorta picked up at the finish. NXT made sure to present Damian Priest as Kross’ equal. This was no squash, which is the right way to go. Standing toe to toe with Karrion is something few people have done. Now Priest can add his name to that list. In the end, they made sure to put that front and center. When Priest took some damage that would put other men down, he stood there and told his foe “I’m still standing.” He wasn’t standing for long, but that’s besides the point. He came out of this looking as good if not better than he coming in. It’s just a shame the match didn’t live up. The Return Xia Li & Boa returned to the CWC with their mystery leader. This was a showcase of how the gimmick would translate in the arena. And it translated quite well. The mystery woman remains a mystery. She wore a mask and make up over the exposed areas so we really can’t tell who that is. She just watched from the ramp sitting on her throne. Xia was tasked to have the first match of the group. She displayed the new persona they built during the videos the last couple months. This included a modified new look (more badass) and a serious, aggressive demeanor. Also, she may not feel pain. The announcers were harping on that. It was a squash match so she wasn’t asked to do too much. But her kicks and knee strikes looked brutal. They made her feel dangerous. Time will tell how she manages a longer match. It’s a good start, but they didn’t have to do much. They didn’t have to cut any promos or work an extended match. However, the fact the presentation was more cool than lame is an important first step. All the Rest: - Santos Escobar defeated Gran Metalik to retain the cruiserweight title. It was a good match involving two talented men. During the match, Wade Barrett commented that Escobar is as dominant as Io Shirai when it comes to champions in NXT.
