Everyone I hope everything is good o. I just sold my birds for 10k each. They weight about 5.8kg . I hope I tried .

The ones not up to 4kg was sold for 7k. So far so good. The birds are not even enough cos customers keep coming , as I am right now, all my birds have been booked and sold .

My first poultry experience is somewhat stressful but beautiful. Thanks to those who helped me along the way, may God bless you all.

I've not calculated my profits yet cos the remaining birds are yet to be taken by their owners.
Good job

You are quite right my oga. I can feel you, and you know how to tackle it. Yes, my oga Jidestroud has explained what I meant. We will arrive at the same conclusion. Please, read my response to Jidestroud.

We keep learning from ourselves everyday its good , we keep it up knowledge is better when shared

Oga Noeloge82 & Attit

You are both right & saying the same thing. Yes, market prices is a major determinant and you can hardly sell your birds above it. Everything boils down to strategy and your targeted market to able to break even. I know for a fact most newbies will be biting their fingers this season because the prices out there does not justify the hardish and struggles we went through in raising the birds. Who would have thought we would be buying broilers for less than 5k after all the unexplainable increase in feeds (and still rising)? But then, come and see big big broilers over here weighing 3kg and above going for 3.5k to 4.5k over here.
It requires a detailed knowledge of the market and how to go about it as my ogas have said. I for example try to be all inclusive in my sales; targeting both the general markets and my special exclusive customers grin.
Below are some of my exclusive big birds (Noilers) weighing 4.5kg to 5kg which I carefully select and sell to my high end customers at 8k each (some could do better). Friends and family have their own prices too grin. And the average weighted ones are simply shipped off to the market and sold at whatever prices we agree on angry. Same applies to my turkeys. You really have to be very very smart.

Chai this your trap is the bomb , it must catch any category of customer that's the big deal , a prof in the game knows how to catch them , keep it up

5.8Kg is a very big one, how many weeks did it take before they attained such a weight?

Hello farmers, please i need your advice cos am still a novice farmer. My birds are layers and i have noticed brownish poop wen they were just three days old while i was still administering antibiotics and vitamins and in the second week after vaccination of gumboro i treated them with embazin forte cos they were now having green poop and some blood like. I stopped the medication on the fifth days and i vaccinated lasota on the 14th day . now they are 16th day and am now noticing the brownish poop allover the pen again though they are still active and eating. What do you think i should do please.

But during extreme hot weather, which do you recommend? There is possibility of extreme high heat in Feb/Mar again. It is possible Feb/Mar come with very few rain and it can get really hot. So called experts dont predict well weather forecasts. Only SS region seems to be having enough rain these days.

You know that when their is extremely high hot weather and their is a break with rain or cold u cannot still classify such as extremely high hot again
But if it was without a break yes its extremely high hot and I would recommend abor acre, Cobb, or Marshall but not a Ross cos in such and extreme hot weather the very High body fat of a Ross is not well managed can lead to unusual dropping of the birds
But where u have a standard pen where u can regulate temperature anyone goes

Actually, Ross can take high heat too. I mean extreme high heat. The only tweak is to adjust the feed. I have been telling most people that Ross should not be fed on almost all the feed around. Yeah! Cobb and Mashal can take them. These local feeds are filled with high fat. Too bad. AA is the heat version of Ross from the same company. But if one tweaks the feed, Ross is great. Cobb is great but the company producing it in Nigeria frequently have issues with the day old chicks. They can produce excellent batch this month, and then messes up the next month. While Mashall is great cos it is only male line. Of course, during such heat and dry season, it is a brand I would go for, but during rainy season if one is not well grounded in broiler production, it will end in tears. In all, AA+ is the standard for anytime production in my opinion for our climate. But others have their strengths too. I felt there is a special breed for high heat period. Thanks bro! I like you. You are detailed.

You just said it , proper management and your result will be excellent
For company its not always good naming companies here cos sometimes it becomes publicity and sometimes some people misunderstand such.
I remember a time here I was asked same question after doing bird and feed analysis later that day some reps started calling to ask why I down graded their product I had to keep explaining things to them
So for company pls chat me 08135348909, remind me of username and question

From my experience: top on the list are: AA+, Cobbs and Ross. There even a better version of Cobbs and Ross than the ones in Naija. The only challenge with Cobbs is the company who got the franchise in Nigeria. For Ross and AA+, they are both from the same company. Ross was first developed and the company who developed it is based in the US. Naturally the climate there is not hot weather. After it was successful, they cloned almost the same characteristics of Ross and put in AA+. But with o e different attribute: AA+ tolerates heat. It is why you dont see AA+ in north American and Europe. And you see it in Africa and everywhere there is high temp. You may be tempted to go for AA+ but the challenge is that they dont grow tall. Lol! I have heard many say Marshall is big and huge. But na lie. The only issue is Marshall is male line. And naturally, males eat better and grows bigger. But AA+ is short but with heavy weight. You can easily think Marshall is heavier than AA+ mere looking at it. But it is a lie. Put them on scale and you will see that it is almost insignificant. Also, Ross grow tall too. Therefore, when selling live chicken, buyers naturally pick tall chickens with full combs more. They sell faster. This is why some people pick Marshall and Ross over AA+. But if you selling processed chicken, it doesn't matter. Again Ross has a very high percentage of survival during brooding. You can easily take heat from Ross at early age and they will adapt.

In short, know your breed and give it the recommended treatment.

For sure, I am telling you that all feeds in Nigeria are craps. If you are a serious farmer, you better go and learn how to formulate. Either from the strach or by using feed concentration. When you know your breed very well, you can tweak your feed. AA+, Ross Cobbs will give you 3kg in an average of 6.5 weeks if you feed them very well the exact way the producers suggest you should. Do not ho for these useless free feed paraded around. There are vitamins minerals and nutrients you even add to feed or water that help birds to tolerate heat or cold more. It is a wide topic.

This price of chicken this season is really messed up with the high cost of feed.

Two much supply on the part of the farmers.
Also no money for more people to buy birds.
With countless other reasons.

Bro if these people are your pals you can give them at that amount as if you are gifting it to them but if not returned back their deposit .

Happy New Year to every hardworking farmer here! I quite find the discussion on which strain is more heat resistant at this time. From a few accounts shared here, it seems Ross 308 from Agrited had issues with heat. So my questions are: which strain will be most adaptable to heat, resistance to diseases, big comb & good height?
Reared Cockerels this last time & would like to try Broiler this time.

From the discussion, AA+ was found to adapt well/better to Nigeria hot weather and grow big nd heavy with good management.
