Layiwolaadigun7: I have never seen a book that has dealt with the Yorubas emotions than "There was a Country". Shady tribe that want to take the glory of winning the war though Awolowo blockade policy, but profusely denied being responsible for the death of 2 million Biafran children. They want the glory, but not the dirtiness associated with the uncivil war. Chinua Achebe the master, gave future generations of Igbos a book that explained in details whom the people they called country men were. He has no time to give you history of the Nigeria civil war, many authors had done justice to the subject albeit with lots of lies and falsehood. His book was the human angle of the tragedy of Biafra. He brought a sore subject to the front burner and you guys reaction was highly anticipated. It was a shameful past. Therefore for generations to come, Awolowo shall perpetually be remembered as the one who fought a war of hunger with children for 3 years and got 2 million of them as war booty. Shame! |

Etinosa1234: All the lands belonging to Igbos who profess their Igbo affiliation shall be recovered irrespective of who borders them. No body is going to negotiate anything with you. Land is sacred in our culture,it is inherited. You get the drift? |

jimyjames:Young man, everything i say and think counts, because it is my history. I just showed you the coward zik was, if you are doubting what i said go and search for the book online Namdi Azikiwe: saint or sinner, and how Awos party was the one that raised the motion for Independence, zik was just one control freak, who thought he could keep everything under his control. My Yoruba brother was part of the coup, because he was fooled to believe, the coup was for a better country, the Igbo deceived him as usual, just like they did Victor banjo and later subjected the Biafra fighter to the firing squad. Ameachi said he his Igbo when, he wants to achieve something Politically, he knows that is what will make your head swell, and got for him, and he is just one man . Ikwere Majorities including there present Governor made it clear that Rivers is not Igbo land, Oheaneze could not do anything. |
Re: National Resentment Of The Igbo, In Achebe's Words by HolarQD(m): 10:10am On Dec 31, 2020 |
jimyjames: They didn’t end with what Zik wanted oga, I thought you’re learned. After independence, the form of government we operated was still regional, each region is self governed and has its own constitution but there was no clear cut clause or policy on possible secession by any group. The coup then happened and brought in ironsi an Igbo man who also believed in Zik ideas, and he promulgated a decree that formed a unitary central government system. Ironsi also failed to sumarily execute those that planned and executed the coup (majorly officers of Igbo extraction). If he had not form a unitary government and has dealt with the coup plotters, there won’t have been a need for northern retaliation |

jimyjames:The Colonial masters were against the secession stuff even till now, they even prove it big time during the war, it is only natural for them to side with the Igbos, who.loved Nigeria as one so much, they didn't want to hear anything secession. And may i remind you that what every the colonial masters said then was final. |

gwafaeziokwu: Can you also be kind enough to state the fact that Ojukwu rejected 600,000 euros worth of aid and instead asked for guns and ammunition ? Aids that could have keep some of those children you mentioned alive? When you start telling yourself the truth, things would become clearer to you and your likes! 1 Like |

gwafaeziokwu: The problem of young generation of Igbo as an ethnic group is created by their leaders who have incorporated hatred of other people into their traditions and culture. An average Igbo guy, no matter the level of education, hates non Igbo for no just reason other than not being an Igbo couple with the believe that Igbo are better than others. The problem with a book like there was a country is that it perpetually put the Igbo nation in psychological trauma of their foolishness. It reopened wound and reminded them of their losses. After all everything is right in love and war. It inculcated in the younger generation the sense of being victims within the geographical entity called Nigeria. I dislike saying how i feel about the Igbo as I've come across thousands of them in my day to day activities with the same mindset about other ethnic groups. Igbo hate other people with passion. You can't live with hatred and think you'll prosper in all your endeavours, Mba! Dont Blane others for your woes, blame Aguiyi Ironsi, Ojukwu, Kaduna and others who thought Igbo can only achieve their superiority claim over others is through elimination of threats and domination of others. You're the architect of your misfortunes and it'll continue to be your portion until you stop hating others. |

jimyjames: Lol! So because Lagos was from the Portuguese, what does it change? Wasn’t Bini the first to have contact with the Portuguese, were they has developed as the Yorubas pre colonial ? There’s difference between national civilisation and western exposure/education. Binis were civilised as much as the Yoruba pre colonial, the Bini and Oyo empires were the two most powerful, formidable and well organised structured group in the southern Nigeria pre colonial and this wasn’t achieved by any colonial help. It was their well structured government and military base/leadership that made it imperative for the colonial masters to conquer them first before any other group in the south, and this is why the experienced western exposure and education first. I am not here to do tribal bashing with you. I just want to disabuse your mind. Yorubas don’t and has never felt jealous nor hate igbos. You guys need to be objective to see things clearer. Thank you. |
Re: National Resentment Of The Igbo, In Achebe's Words by gwafaeziokwu: 11:12am On Dec 31, 2020 |
Layiwolaadigun7: There is consequences for every action. When the rest of Nigeria cheered on while the pogrom was taking place in the north, you did not understand that you have created bad eternal bad blood between you and Igbos. When the rest of Nigeria conspired to mete out genocide on Igbo soil because we decided not to be part of a nation that kills her children with relish you put a final seal to that bad blood. When more that 50 years after, you refuse to admit that you wronged the Igbo nation but instead constantly boast of meting out another round of genocide at the every occasion. Then hate from the Igbos is the lightest of what you will get from them. And you know what, not liking you has not hindered their progress in any way. Common ,look at round you and tell your self the hard truth. |
Re: National Resentment Of The Igbo, In Achebe's Words by gwafaeziokwu: 11:26am On Dec 31, 2020 |
HolarQD: At least we are getting somewhere. Awolowo asked Gowon to put a blockade on the east in order to starve them to death. That is a fact! Ojukwu cannot reject 600,000 euros of aids and yet took the risk of landing Caritas Catholic foundation and Red Cross Aeroplanes, with zero visibility at Uli airport. It was one the the ingenuity of the Biafrans to land the plane, get relief materials and leave all the same without the notice of the Nigeria army who are dunces by the way. Many Aeroplane carrying food and relief for dying Biafran children were shot down by the Nigerian side. So much for wanting to save the Biafrans. Oga shove your mischief back up the side where the sun do not shine. Abeg. You aren't talking to a kid. |

Bkayyy:only Enugu is worthy to be called a city in Igboland, and most things their are basic... I would rate place like Ilorin above your Enugu sef.. until you show me pictures of stadiums, malls, Universities, Airport, Public places e.t.c in Onitsha and Aba, then we gonna agree that Onitsha and Aba are cities.... the only worthy city in igboland, Enugu should be compared with Akure and not Ibadan. Ibadan, the third Largest city in Nigeria after, Lagos metro and Abuja metro is on another league... not on the same league with shitholes that doesn't have basic amenities like University, Stadium, Malls, Airports, clubs and public places.. please don't quote me again unless you're ready to provide what I asked for... Provide what I asked for in Onitsha and Aba.. |
