The name benin like i said was probably giving by the itsekiris to describe the edo to the Portuguese who had come in contact with them at the shores, the name ile binu (land of anger) was used to describe the benin people to the Portuguese to warn them not to venture into benin, ile binu was later corrupted as benin by the Portuguese


Note: As a benin man and who is well familiar with my language i can say there is no parable or sentence or even a word in the benin language that has the word bini or ile binu, used to describe ourselves in the edo language
Meaning the edo people never even referred to ourselves as benins till after the end of the empire, they always referred to themselves as edo in memorial , if it is indeed true if we are to believe on the Oduduwa myth, and not the account of the itsekiri on the origin of the name benin, then the word ile-binu should have been longed incorporated into the benin lexicon before 19 century when we benins began using it to address ourselves for political distinction from othed edos
Our neighbors including the itsekiri knew us as ado a mispronounciation of the word edo, the bini of today called themselves these further explains that Portuguese after picking the name from the itsekiris, started calling us benins without the edos awareness to these name just like every other tribe that got their name coined from the European

Till date a benin man still refers to himself as edo
Linguistically and benin politically

I thereby say those people promoting the beni-ife are doing it for cultural and political gains

there is no link of the word BENIN in any Benin parable or naming

the only naming in Benin history that has that word was the claimed mother of all Aiwerioghenes and Osula of Benin from which the present enogie of eyean ( Iduriase Aiwerioghene) is an offspring. the woman may have had a name with Benin origin but because of her trade with the itsekiris she was called AGHAYUBINI by the itsekiri.
