Guy, just shut up. What is your problem? Is it by force to give you money? If those around you can't help you, you must be worse than Satan. At least, Satan has demons helping him.

A supposed fund manager with numerous funds in money market, REIT, Eurobond, fixed income can't have just one Trustee. Each fund will have different Trustees. Depending on size of the fund, you can even have 2 Trustees. United Capital Trustee and FBN Quest Trustee are the Trustees to the Real Estate Investment Trust of UPDC, where rental income of almost N2.5 billion is distributed among 2000 investors every year, property and liquid cash worth N30 billion are honestly managed with the supervision of SEC for the investors

Anybody can open a trust account with a Trustee to ensure your children, family, you, business partners are not cheated or they cheat you, that doesn't make the arrangement SEC compliant.

I know Rise vest is registered as investment advisors with SEC USA with CRD no. 306658. A search on the US SEC website confirms this. The issue now is SEC Nigeria does not or cannot or will not directly regulate fintechs like Risevest, Piggyvest, Chaka, Bamboo, Trove. So they have to resort with trustee arrangement with firms like registered SEC firms like ARM.

I really don't know the difficulty SEC NG is facing with regulating fintech companies.

Nigerians also trade US stocks directly with Trading212. They are incorporated in the UK and registered by the SEC US. They are not in Nigeria. Does that mean people shouldn't use them because they don't have SEC Nigeria stamp of approval?

I am happy SEC issued a statement on Chaka. I am interested in the outcome of the Tribunal Proceedings. This is a conversation that needs to be had.

I am also wondering why SEC selected Chaka only when there's Bamboo, Trove, Risevest and they know Nigerians are using them. Is this not the right time to bring out guidelines once and for all?

I tire for Nigeria. Abroad sef forex is being regulated. Here, we are dilly dallying.

P.S They never responded to my email after several reminders. I had to see their response to someone's email on a telegram group.

SEC responded based on enquiries made concerning Chaka.

Trove and Bamboo App are good options.

Personally I use Trove though but from sampled opinions they both seem to meet the typical need of most Nigerian users.

Have you heard anything about UPDC’s next dividend date, can’t seem to find anything about it online.

UPDC has a long way to go, doubt if they can pay dividend in the next 2 years. You need to understand the difference between UPDC and UPDC REIT

Risevest is not registered with the US SEC! Anyone can go to the website to confirm. That they can claim to be registered with the US SEC when they are not is a big red flag.

Chaka, Trove and Bamboo only provide platforms to enable Nigerians have easier access to US stocks. They clearly state on their websites that they do not give investment advice. They offer the platform and you choose the stocks you want to invest in. All at your own risk. They are basically just online brokerage platforms.

On the other hand, Risevest claims that they will invest your money (and make bogus and unrealistic returns that the most reputable American fund managers are not even making). They are essentially acting like a mutual fund that charges a management fee to invest retail money.

How can guys with no investment background and verifiable track record claim that they can invest retail funds and make those above market returns? You don’t have to be a genius to decode this one.

I see where the SEC is coming from. If you put money in a brokerage house that is not registered by the SEC, they can decide to close shop and japa with clients money whenever they feel like. Infact, yahoo boys can use this to be chopping and cleaning mouth.

My Experience dealing with a financial institution based out of naija
I had a bitter experience with the institution with constant back and forth to the extent i almost lost N1.2 million. I opened accs for myself and minors with proof as their legal guardian, the accs was opened and i made deposits to mine N55m and N400k each for the minors, when it was time to take out the funds the bank refused to release the funds saying i should get the authorization of any other legal guardian the minors may have before the funds can be released, Is this legal?

For nearly a week, we were battling it, they demanded for documents that I never imagined. They kept refusing the documents i tried to offer, asking for additional documents issued by their government which was impossible to provide. I will advise anyone who intends to invest funds outside the shores of Naija to think twice, when you invest and keep seeing profits it's all good, when you want to take out the funds is when you will truly know some of these offshore banks are criminals. It is better to put your money where your mouth is, do not trust financial institutions, they will they to try embezzle your money even while you are still alive. Better to invest in properties and going forward 80 percent of my portfolio will be properties.

This is one experience that happens to many forms of investment. It is usually all good until it is time to pull out your money then you either start hearing stories or seeing spurious deductions. Insurance companies are fond of that.

After the crash if tbills, the thread remain more lively with useful contributions from Ahib and Emma. Ahib keep sharing lot business opportunities in real sector while Emma shared his vast knowledge relevant to NSE fundamentals as we keep getting financial education at ease. Ahib opened thread in nairaland criticising a particular ponzi scheme, unbeknown to him same development will make him lost interest with nairaland. It's now obvious that lazyouth has successfully kicked ahib out of this thread.
