Hello guys good evening

So last night I had a little problem on where to keep the chick for the night, due to rat issues we have at home (didn't want a situation where I might meet a headless chick next day) I finally got a place.

I have decided to keep the chick and also my instinct tells me it's going to b a female so in 3weeks time check back to see if the op has very bad instincts (anyway my instincts don't lie, lol) so am going to call her; Mira.

Everyone is so fond of Mira at home, she follows anybody and everybody at home and once u leave her presence she start to cry. So I had to do the needful make her feel at home. Earlier today I went out to get a little saw-dust, a mudu of vital starter food and some vitamins. For now Mira stays in a carton filled with saw-dust, she hasn't complained yet so I think she's ok with it.

I let her roam the compound freely and so far so good she like it cus through out today we barely heard her voice, it got to quiet to a point I started looking for her, thinking she might have gone out only to see her under a banana plant doing what chickens do best.

They are quite lovely to keep. I personally nursed about 8 of them when the mother was killed by a vehicle. You will be surprised how they could respond to signs. I taught them how to run to me when I give a particular sign, they always feed on my hands. It was a nice experience.

This reminded me of last December 2020, my best friend's dad buys day old chicks every January and rears them till December, only for consumption during festive periods and for gifting people. He called me few days to Christmas to come and collect one chicken. I went there very early on Christmas day to get it. It was an all white local chicken,the biggest I ever saw in my life, looking old (almost a year old) and gentle. The legs were now bent, couldn't stand properly anymore.
We didn't kill it for Christmas because we had frozen ones in the fridge. so we decided to wait till new year. We kept it in a big bath, because it can't run around anymore, it was no longer agile.
During this period of waiting for the new year, I became attached to the chicken, I fed her and changed her water regularly, she doesn't like dirts at all, when she poos, she will just shift her bum bum to the clean side of the bath, she won't even try to step on it. she will rather sit uncomfortably to avoid her body from touching the poo. This made me love her the more, she doesn't cry anyhow.
Every night, I'll reserve a torchlight for her inside the bath so it won't be dark. sometimes I play with her, if I remove the torch, she will start crying and she will stop when I return it back ..lols
I never saw myself being attracted to an animal like this, because am always scared of them. but from the day I met her, all my fear went away.
I begged my mom to let us keep her that I love her but she refused saying its exhausting to rear chicken.
On the last Sunday of the year, I came home from church to meet her death. they've just passed the knife through her throat when I came in. I shed tears and then I just lock up but I never ate from the chicken at all till it finished.
Looking forward to starting my own poultry farm this year by God's grace.

You would have feel very sick had it been you ate it,it happened to me when i was a child,I cherished it,,,it was everything to me...when they killed it,I cried bitterly...later on i ate it..felt very sick immediately for more than a week,,it was as if i ate my blood, becoz of the way we bonded

Your own is even more worst for the hen..it would have been more happier seeing you for the last time dying than not seeing you at all,,the hen must have cried bitterly that her murderers took her life when you weren’t around
