Nicoswit: Well, the visa policy during our time was tough then. The conservative government of David Cameron in 2009 made it extremely difficult for foreign students to secure a well paying job to apply for permanent leave to stay in the UK. I actually got full time job with NHS in St. Andrews but my gross income was lower than the minimum £25k then that would have qualified me. Luckily, an investment bank in Nigeria came calling and I boarded the ship back home. So far, so good. No regret yet. 5 Likes |

Watch out people, this was the exact advice that held me back for years in Nigeria earning less than #30,000 as a private school teacher hoping to be among those that would make it to Forbe list. I lived in such imaginary illusion for years before I came back to my senses and traveled out to Germany for my Msc, and through my part time Jobs, I came to realize what salary actually means. The first thing I did after arriving in Germany was regretting not leaving Nigeria earlier. Since the OP has started giving you Stat ask him to give you the Stat of the total number of Nigerians making it to Forbe list. The last time I checked the Forbe list, I doubt if I saw upto 4 Nigerian names there. Four out of over 200miliion people. You see ehhh, I hate unfair analysis. You guys should stop discouraging people. If Nigeria favours you, good but just understand that it doesn't favour everyone. I was actually angry with the OP until I saw his last points. He said it all, if you are doing well in Nigeria stay, but please if you are not doing well, please find a way to leave, come back when you have made money. Nigeria hardly favours the poor, I have lived in for over 25yrs of my life and believe me I saw it all. I have lived abroad for almost 2yrs and I can tell the difference. Comparing Nigeria to abroad is unfair unless the person is from a wealthy background,, if you are not from wealthy background or from the background of the elite, it's not a fair comparison at all in all ramifications. 11 Likes |

demanuel:Don't mind all those theory talking parrots lolz Trading and anything business thrives in Nigeria. There are a lot of services to render to Nigerians. There are a lot of products to be sold to Nigerians. All you need is to study your environment and find out what is in highest demand and try to queue in with your creativeness. Which job can earn you 500,000naira in one day in Nigeria or abroad |

Basalt:This has always been my own advice to people too. If you are doing well in Nigeria, stay and work towards increment in income and then plan for your kids to enjoy the abroad experience you couldn't get, that's it. Quitting your good paying job or thriving business to immigrate abroad is stupidity to me because once you land abroad, you will definitely be starting life from scratch. Many go back to school to study the lucrative course in their destination country. That's years wasted 5 Likes |

demanuel:well, this is what insecurity is capable of causing, It will chase away every kind of good thing from a place including the high purchasing power u mentioned needed for business to flourish, it will chase away the best brains, best talents, foreign investments, then finally, the little revenue will then be taken away in the form of capital flight (to add insult to injury- this is what the Bible meant by: but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away -matt 25 vs 24-30 in the parable of the talent). Just imagine 5m-10m/head for those emigrating! And stupid so-called leaders are not bothered or concerned 2 Likes |

Most of what you typed up there is misinformation at best and outright lies at worst which absolutely can easily be debunked. The high successes recorded by dubious politicians, fraudulent pastors and ponzi scheme operators in Nigeria are living proofs that Nigerians can be so gullible. We can easily be deceived. The astronomical hype on Canada is the latest deceit in town. Here are things you need to know before immigrating. It's not deception, it's real. It's a decision a lot of people took and down the road they are thanking their stars they took the bold step. Now let me debunked your lies one after another 1. The list of richest Nigerians is filled with Nigerians living at home. You're more likely to make it into Forbes if you live in Nigeria. At least that's what the stat shows, whether people making into Forbes in Nigeria are engaging in corrupt practices is a story for another day. The odds of becoming a dollar billionaire favours those at home . No Diaspora Nigerian has ever made it into Forbes billionaire list. The same Forbes published its list of African billionaires 2020 and you know what just four Nigerians are in the list out of twenty - Africa has just 20 people deemed to be called billionaires, while on the other hand, Canada alone has 44 billionaires , twice that of Africa plus four. And its important to know that majority of these Canadian billionaires have foreign ancestry or are immigrants. Nigeria with a population of 200+million has just four billionaires while Canada with 40million has 44 billionaires. Do the maths, connect the dots and stop being delusional. And should we talk of the fact to make a fortune in Nigeria one has to make strong connections and cut corners, be neck-deeped in corruption practices and so on. The vast majority of prospective immigrants aim of emigrating is not to be on Forbes list, neither do they aim to be millionaires, all what they are after is a good and effective system that rewards hardwork. Source: Forbes, Wikipedia. 2. There are more money to be made in a developing economy than in a developed economy. That's why as you're rushing out of the country, Lebanese, Indians and Chinese are rushing in. Only few will understand. You're sitting on the biggest market in Africa yet you haven't realize this but the Lebanese and the Indians knew this. Of India more than 20 million diaspora population more than 3/4 of them are in Western countries. Only few of them are in Africa due to numerous factors such as political instability and so on. Source: Wikipedia However, Despite Nigeria being way populous than Canada, the latter has way more middle class and millionaires than Nigeria. The vast majority of Nigerians are poor, the rest are struggling, the middle class are not even up to 5% of the total population. 3. If you are the type who don't fancy working for others, it's much more easier to own a business in Nigeria than in Canada/US. Western countries were set up for the 99% populace to work for 1% elites. Their education systems were designed to produce workforce for the rat race. Not to create employers of labour. Again total lies. Nigeria ranks pathetically poor in ease of doing business index, close to bottom I think. Of the excelling countries 2/3 are Western countries. A start up company is much likely to thrive in a developed country like Canada than Nigeria due to obvious reasons. 4. It's stupidity to resign from a high-paying job in Nigeria in a bid to relocate to Canada/US. Your eyes will get clear up when you start facing the hard realities in Canada. Those who had made this mistake in the past are ashamed to come on social media to talk about it. The ones talking on Twitter are 'freshers' who just arrived. For a start, you earn way higher in Canada for the same job than in Nigeria. BTW, people look at the bigger picture when emigrating, its not all about money, how about a good system that answers 70-80% of your prayer point? I mean a fair and just system, where a child of a nobody can become somebody without connections? You only get that in a developed country liked Canada. 5. If you want to secure 2nd passport for your kids, you don't necessarily need to immigrate to achieve this. There are other ways, one method is overseas child birth. It's not all about kids. Oneself matters and the easiest way to go about it is by dumping this shit hole . 6. You're 5x more likely to be shot and rubbed in New York than in Lagos. Poor neighborhoods all over the world has more crime rates. The thing is, when you finally made it in Nigeria, you can move to high brow areas with lesser crime. Again a fat lie, the crime per capita of Lagos is way higher than New york, heck, its not even comparable. 7. Nigerians are spending up to 8millions ($21k) and above to immigrate to Canada/US whereas an average canadian or American citizen can't boast of $10k in their bank A/C's. They live pay check to pay check. Last time I checked, America has more than 17 million millionaires, 614 billionaires and tens of millions of middle class . The average American can afford the basic like decent healthcare, good education, basic tech gadgets, enjoys world class infrastructure and so on. Whereas, the average Nigerian is pathetically poor, barely afford 3 decent meals a day, manages a meagre salary and so on. 8. Some Nigerians claims that they ain't relocating because of the money but because of good infrastructure, good health care system, value for their money etc. That's a lie! 98% of Nigerians who're eager to travel out are relocating because of economic reasons. There are good infrastructure, good health care system and value for money in countries like Kuwait, Russia, Brazil, South Korea, Chile etc but Nigerians ain't trooping there, indicating that their preference for Canada/US is purely based on economic reasons. To put the likes of Chile ,Brazil and Kuwait in the same pedestal with Canada in terms of quality of public services clearly shows you know clue what you are talking about. Canada is categorized as a highly developed and a high income country whose quality of life is considered topnotch whereas the countries you mentioned are at best newly industrialized countries and at worst developing. 9. It's cheaper to live in Nigeria. Canada/US promises higher minimum wage but the system will still take it away from you. It's like giving you with one hand and taking from you with another. $2k (N760k) will pay for your one year rent of 2 bedrooms apartment in a good location in Nigeria but same amount will only fetch you one month rent of a match box apartment in Canada/US. When making comparisons you compare apples with apples not with oranges, to do otherwise is height of bias and double standard. Wages are different likewise cost of living. An average Canadian earns 4- 5 × what an average Nigerian worker earns. That should sink in. 10. This is not to stop you from traveling out but to inform you on the true realities. Economic immigration should be left for lower or working class who're struggling or to young lads who wants to school abroad and thereafter further their career overseas. Not to deceive Nigerians already earning good in corporate offices in Nigeria to resign and relocate where they will be employed as security guards or to deceive business owners who's businesses are thriving in Nigeria to close down business and relocate. Don't let them deceive you with the hype. Money don't grow on trees anywhere in the world. You may think you drive home some point but truth is almost what you typed is gibberish and lies which can easily be debunked. In your effort to sound knowledgeable and wise you end up showcasing yourself as a dumb and unintelligent fellow. The earlier you wake up and smell the coffee the better for you. my fellow Nigerians, whoever have the means to leave this country do so without hesitation. Unfortunate people like this guy will try to concort lies and half truths all in a bid to discourage and twart your plans, NEVER GIVE THEM THE CHANCE, YOU WILL REGRET IT. 4 Likes 1 Share |

Seems this is coming from someone that resorted to faith because immigration did not work out. That said - only because most of your points are not exactly true. 1. Not like we have so many Nigerians on the Forbes list to start accessing locations of Nigerians that make it to the Forbes list. 2. The Lebanese and Chinese that are trooping in are not just coming with an empty head and empty pockets to do charity work - they are heavily backed by many private fundings and financially and tech-wise. 3. Are you really saying setting up a company is easier in Nigeria - I live in Canada - I registered a company (online) in 25 mins and in 3 months bank called me for a line of credit (@3% interest Rate) to jump-start my business (even though I had no real plan) 4. Partly agree here .. But i would rather suggest you have a soft landing and do a deeper analysis of the target destination. 5. Partly true if the reason is only for the children - But in most cases its not only for the children 6. Are we talking about New York or Canada? Good to know that only specific neighborhoods are this way in new york and are they not so easy to avoid them? 7. An Average salary earner lives from paycheck to paycheck every where in the world - But what happens when you lose your job in Canada - Govt pays you an up keep for say 10 months - is that the case in Nigeria ? 8. You mentioned there is good infra in places like Kuwait, Russia, South Korea... Do they have immigration programs like that of Canada? 9. I won't even talk about this .. Because to really compare you should compare GDP, economy etc 3 Likes |

ednut1: I had actually observed from your comments that you used every opportunity to paint Nigeria bad. You have not even stayed up to one year in Canada, you have started looking at those living in 9ja as stupid. This attitude is very bad and common to newcomers like you. I have seen some newcomers like you degrading Nigeria their home country in front of their white colleagues or friends. Very unfortunate indeed! Granted, Canada has a workable system to an extent while Nigeria system is messed up due to the ruling elites and average 9ja citizens. The fact you are currently living in Canada does not make you much better than someone who has a good job or business in 9ja and doing well in his endeavors. Like I always say, no where in the world is paradise. Every country has their pros and cons. Those who want to migrate to Canada should be allow to migrate in peace, and those who migrated to Canny should allow those living in 9ja to live in peace and stop those unnecessary comparisons. Not everyone will make in 9ja same as not everyone will make it in Canny. The prayer is God should bless the work of our hand wherever we find ourselves. 6 Likes 1 Share |

Cuz most of you who managed to travel to one developing country are always fond of still claiming to have travelled abroad whereas it's still a developing country. Maturedconnect: It might not really be a first world country he travelled to. People still call Afghanistan abroad na. And if anyone travels there, he will surely think he has travelled abroad as well na, but unknown to him, abroad get level. Most abroad some persons always mentioned that they have travelled to are backyard developing, third world abroad. But when people are discussing abroad, they will still want to use their experience from a third world abroad to generalise first world countries that are the main abroad. |

I see your comment as an invalid excuse though. What you guys fail to understand is that the end-SARS protesters definitely pushed the government to the wall. The original purpose of the protest was to force the government to scrape SARS. The very moment the federal government bowed to the pressure and demand of the protesters and scraped SARS there was no longer any justification for the continuation of the protest. It got a point where the government had no better alternative than to use some force to quell the protest as it was obvious some anti-nigeria elements were trying to use the so-called peaceful protesters to bring down both the Nigerian government and the economy. As far as I am concern, whatever action the government took to end the protest was okay by me as there is no government anywhere in the world that would fold its hand and watch some idiot bring down the government and the economy in the name of 'peaceful protest' that has no justification. Moreover, you guys must always bear in mind that those idiots who came out to protest at lekki tollgate that night committed a crime for coming out when there was curfew in place! For your information, I am not a Buhari's fan neither do I belong to any political party. I'm just a patriotic Nigerian who hate lawlessness and anarchy. Thank you. ModestGal: 1 Like |
