Manoftheyear:Firstly i will want to commend you for being observant. I will advise you caution her that if he continue with such act you will report her to your brother and she may probably loose her job. Tell your brother to always monitor his stock when they're bought and track them properly. If he ask you why saying so, tell him not to trust nobody in business. But don't tell him what you found out. Let him if he is observant with your advise he will find out by himself. We rise by lifting others |

Well in business there is no sentiment. If you send her away and employ another, there is every tendency that that person will do worse. I will advise you tell brother, so he could get her deciplined. If she repeats it again, then you send her packing. |

I am appalled at the response of some people here. How the heck will this country move forward if little things like this can't be handled correctly? Your brother is your blood and by extension you should treat his business like yours. If it were your business, what will.you do? Keep quiet? Hell No. Report the situation to your brother and let him handle it the way he wants. The girl is a THIEF. Simple. |

I assume you're the manager? I would say, handle it yourself this time, talk to her first. Warn her that you are aware of what she has been doing, and construct an internal control system that would stop her from stealing without detection; maybe by taking a weekly stock count every Friday with her; or if this is too difficult, you can pick just a few items at random every evening before closing for the stock counting; with a more comprehensive end of month exercise. Make it clear to her that she will be held accountable and have her pay deducted for every item that is missing. Oftentimes, floor sales people steal because internal control is lax and there is little chance of getting caught. But whatever the case may be, give her another chance. Besides, even if you fire her and get someone else, there is every likelihood that the next sales girl will also steal, and the next, and the next; as long as the internal control is weak. Better the devil you know. Sometimes as a manager, you have to look at the cost and benefit to your business. You learn overtime that it is not every infringement of the rules you react harshly over. Her being a young single mother or other emotional tripe of that nature should not be a consideration. This is a financial issue, not a moral one. |

If you don't tell your brother then you are just the same thief as she is and I am sure he won't forgive you. She has been behaving somehow because her conscience is judging her. |

While you want to mind your business, have you considered the fact that (now i don't know what business your bro is into) but there are some business eg drinks eg wines, spirit (wholesale) that if you steal from the person, they can never recover cos that 2k stolen is profit on 100k worth of goods. think about it. good luck with whatever you decide Manoftheyear: |

NwaAmaikpe:Rubbish. Your brother's business is your business. Fire the girl. Being a single mother is not a criteria to steal. |

RealAlubarika:Why all this long grammar. He should sack her himself immediately. What is all this sentiment about. This is precisely what is ruining this country. SENTIMENT. That is what separates the experiences we have with modern, developed societies. Black is black, white is white. I sincerely hope this chap is never, ever is put in trust anywhere near government. He can chose to ruin the brother's business if he pleases. My sixth sense tells me it is the chap that is under scrutiny. The brother probably knows what goes on and is looking for a lever to eject the girl. Unfortunately he will have to make two decisions. |

Too many people in this country encouraging bad behaviour. You are more unfaithful than that thieving salesgirl if you do not handle this case as if it were your own business. There's no such thing as minding your business when it comes to tackling something like this. I really pity your brother for putting you in charge; he trusted an unfaithful brother. |

NwaAmaikpe:So, after she has grounded the business to a halt, and your brother is not able to pay her salaries, she will still stay behind because she is a single mum who does not want to go into prostitution? I wonder how people think nowadays. |
