I am going to modify this post to reveal a scam going on here on Nairaland by a group of people/family.

Background
Just like many scammers who like to spin up new monikers to get more victims, I also created a new account a few months ago just to be invisible. I have been on NL since 2011 and already deleted my old moniker for privacy since it had all my info plus I became popular here and even gained Seun 's attention. I use this account to read and I realize I am tired of that already.
I am a Software Engineer and I work with data a lot.

Observation
* You see, FBI work might not be difficult at all, after all, it's all about connecting dots and having just the right tools to carry out research.

* I need to bring to your notice that unlike the Yahoo guys and ladies, these Nairaland scammers are normal people. Normal poor and broke people who have made many bad choices in their lives.
These choices can be a refusal to go to school, bad friends, peer influence and addiction. Some are addicted to gambling, Sports betting, womanizing and alcoholism.

* When they post their "I need help, my life is ruining" topic, people troop in to read about their predicament and a few (if not many) immediately offer to send money/items alike. They claim, "I am not a scammer", "I am real". They easily drop their phone number, partial names, etc so others can call them 'to see if the number actually exist'.

I was doing a bit of research this morning and I discovered this post from the Crime Section.
I am surprised because the perpetrator is among those I have trailed. It's not that difficult to figure out.

I must inform you malbath that the image you posted has a high chance of not being correct. If I am to tell you specifically, the image is not for the person that scammed you.

Armed with a lot of security and banking tools/ contacts respectively, I do ask myself what is the next point of action to be taken by victims of scams.

First, let's define Scam:

A scam is a deceptive scheme or trick used to cheat someone out of something, especially money. Scam is also a verb meaning to cheat someone in such a way.

Charity Scam
A limited percentage of the happenings here are not actually Scam because you decided to render help all by yourself. You reached out to them because the post got to a weak spot in you and because you're kind. Then you realize they have no intention of actually being helped. They are the 'lazy Nigerian youths' whom Buhari spoke of. They are just Online beggars who rely on relaying false stories and information just to get enough victims.
After getting some money, they jump straight into their usual habits of gambling, womanizing and sport begging. They use up the money, create new monikers and then start the process again.

Other types of scam here typically involve exchanging of goods and services. It doesn't end well. STOP IT.

I have to summarize my advice to all Nairalanders.
1) DO NOT SEND MONEY TO ANYONE ON NAIRALAND.
2) DO NOT READ ANY "I Am So Much In Pain(pls Help Me)" TOPIC.
3) DO NOT SEND MONEY OR ITEMS TO ANY STRANGERS ONLINE.
4) DO NOT HAVE PITY FOR ANYONE ONLINE.

Yes, bad people have affected the good people. I genuinely know good and serious people do beg for money online. An example is Kanye West who asked for money from another celeb online when he was in debt just about 3/4 years ago. The celeb didn't answer tho but today, Kanye is a billionaire. I am pretty sure that if Kanye has continued to beg, he wouldn't become a billionaire today.

To those of you that are genuinely in need of financial assistance, go and meet your religious and spiritual leaders to help you solicit funds from your religious gathering.
Just like many homeless Americans, many poor people cannot handle money. They'll squander anything you give them to start something (a business) in less than 3 days. They have found that it is easy to just beg online. Cast a wide net and wait for a soft-hearted to contact them and send money. No risk. Just gains.

When you expose a scammer here on Nairaland, they immediately deactivate their accounts. Then they either abandon the platform or create a new moniker right away.

Mods Role
Moreover, I have read so many reports of Nairand mods ignoring reports of profiles suspected or alleged to be scammers. This is not good enough tho. This has to change.

For the attentive readers, I have started giving away information about the scammers. There is an easter egg in my last post. It should be easy to figure out.

I tried to understand. meanwhile i gave him some money to pay d landlord earlier dis year which he didn't pay unknowingly to me. I was shocked when the landlord brought his boys, police, to throw out our properties last month. I asked d landlord why he would throw out my properties out of the house without any notice, he said he has been giving my husband d notice and our time is up. I am still trying to move from this shock, last I heard, my husband isn't in d country his numbers hasn't been going through, though he sent me a message that I shouldn't bother looking for him. my business has collapsed, I moved back to my mother's house. my son is really suffering, it's my mother that feeding both of us with the little things she sells. am really heartbroken and embarrassed. I have not bought clothes for my kid for this festive period. though I recently got a space where I can always sell sharwarma and BBQ with snacks. but most of my equipment are spoilt and stolen. I really need help from u guys to please help raise me up again, I have been fooled by love, but pls because of my innocent kid and mother, u guys pls make some contribution for me so I can start my business this January. Beggars who beg people for money or trick them into an investment /trade. I am coming for you after I deal with this young man and his babymama.

Going to prison to waste some months of your life + the amount you'll pay for bail isn't worth it.
Y'll should go legit and make a living.
Don't take wrong decisions and then expect public pity. Such won't be made available to you here any longer.

To the good nairalanders, beware of people like soulstalker , porkermann and mummyire and other monikers they have created. I know many of you only tried to do charity and business. But you must have felt some hurt knowing your hard-earned funds actually went to the wrong pockets. Mr Solomon is not different from a romance scammer popularly known as Yahoo.
