The New Testament
The majority of N[ew] T[estament] texts reveal God’s spirit as something, not someone; this is especially seen in the parallelism between the spirit and the power of God. When a quasi-personal activity is ascribed to God’s spirit, e.g., speaking, hindering, desiring, dwelling (Acts 8.29; 16.7; Rom 8.9), one is not justified in concluding immediately that in these passages God’s spirit is regarded as a Person; the same expressions are used also in regard to rhetorically personified things or abstract ideas (see Rom 8.6; 7.17). Thus, the context of the phrase ‘blasphemy against the spirit’ (Mt 12.31; cf. Mt 12.28; Lk 11.20), shows that reference is being made to the power of God.”

Many other texts declare quite as clearly that the Holy Ghost is a Person, a Person distinct from the Father and the Son, and yet One God with Them. In several places St. Paul speaks of Him as if speaking of God. In Acts 28:25, he says to the Jews: "Well did the Holy Ghost speak to our fathers by Isaias the prophet"; now the prophecy contained in the next two verses is taken from Isaiah 6:9-10, where it is put in the mouth of the "King the Lord of hosts". In other places he uses the words God and Holy Ghost as plainly synonymous. Thus he writes (1 Corinthians 3:16): "Know you not, that you are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?" and in 6:19: "Or know you not, that your members are the temple of the Holy Ghost, who is in you . . . ?" St. Peter asserts the same identity when he thus remonstrates with Ananias (Acts 5:3-4): "Why hath Satan tempted thy heart, that thou shouldst lie to the Holy Ghost . . . ? Thou hast not lied to men, but to God." The sacred writers attribute to the Holy Ghost all the works characteristic of Divine power. It is in His name, as in the name of the Father and of the Son, that baptism is to be given (Matthew 28:19). It is by His operation that the greatest of Divine mysteries, the Incarnation of the Word, is accomplished (Matthew 1:18, 20; Luke 1:35). It is also in His name and by His power that sins are forgiven and souls sanctified: "Receive ye the Holy Ghost. Whose sins you shall forgive, they are forgiven them" (John 20:22-23); "But you are washed, but you are sanctified, but you are justified in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the Spirit of our God" (1 Corinthians 6:11); "The charity of God is poured forth in our hearts, by the Holy Ghost, who is given to us" (Romans 5:5). He is essentially the Spirit of truth (John 14:16-17; 15:26), Whose office it is to strengthen faith (Acts 6:5), to bestow wisdom (Acts 6:3), to give testimony of Christ, that is to say, to confirm His teaching inwardly (John 15:26), and to teach the Apostles the full meaning of it (John 14:26; 16:13). With these Apostles He will abide for ever (John 14:16). Having descended on them at Pentecost, He will guide them in their work (Acts 8:29), for He will inspire the new prophets (Acts 11:28; 13:9), as He inspired the Prophets of the Old Law (Acts 7:51). He is the source of graces and gifts (1 Corinthians 12:3-11); He, in particular, grants the gift of tongues (Acts 2:4; 10:44-47). And as he dwells in our bodies sanctifies them (1 Corinthians 3:16; 6:19), so will and them he raise them again, one day, from the dead (Romans 8:11). But he operates especially in the soul, giving it a new life (Romans 8:9 sq.), being the pledge that God has given us that we are his children (Romans 8:14-16; 2 Corinthians 1:22; 5:5; Galatians 4:6). He is the Spirit of God, and at the same time the Spirit of Christ (Romans 8:9); because He is in God, He knows the deepest mysteries of God (1 Corinthians 2:10-11), and He possesses all knowledge. St. Paul ends his Second Epistle to the Corinthians (13:13) with this formula of benediction, which might be called a blessing of the Trinity: "The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the charity of God, and the communication of the Holy Ghost be with you all." — Cf. Tixeront, "Hist. des dogmes", Paris, 1905, I, 80, 89, 90, 100, 101.

Did the man deny his Church publication says holy spirit is not a person?

All attribution of every form of activity to holy spirit is mere figure of speech & personification , says the Encyclopedia.
When you tell us if Spirit of man as a person means you agree Wicked persons share God's spirit nature and are born agains, this will be clear.

If ECC 12:7 as indicated in some translations foot note refer to breath of life , Spirit of man knowing becomes a personification , which wi affect spirit of God too .

The Father didnt appear in the text, deluded one.

What appears is Jesus and holy spirit, and one Command MORE RESPECT and AUTHORITY than the other , Which means if holy spirit is a person, it has Far more authority than Jesus .

Sin against Buhari as the GCFR will attract more punishment than sin against ordinary individual.

Here is a text showing Sin against proved Superior authority

1Samuel 2:25

" If a man should sin against another man, someone may appeal to Jehovah for him; but if a man should SIN Against Jehovah, who can pray for him ? "

The gravity of comparison proved Jehovah is greater than mere men.

The gravity of comparison between Sin against Jesus and Sin against holy spirit prove Holy spirit as a person Is greater than Jesus.

Are you ready to deal with this consequence?

Says the New Catholic Encyclopedia.

Which other activities are you now claiming is attributive to a personality?

Bros, every claim in your quote from the same publication , (it's the same source I quoted from) addressed all..

The record is there Bros. In the old testament, holy spirit is not a person.
In the new testament, there is no record of holy spirit at God's left hand. grin

my brother,
you are quoting the source half and half, that is my problem with you. if you want to show what the catholic encyclopedia says then at least quote the full thing.

the encyclopedia actually claims that the person of holy Spirit was gradually revealed. In the old testament is was first conceived as the power of God doing what God does and not as a distinct person. The jews always thought of the Holy Spirit as simply God's power not as a distinct person. that is a clear idea from Judaism and they are able to interprete all personification of the Holy Spirit in none literal ways.

In fact the encyclopedia you are quoting presents many ways the Holy Spirit is interpreted in the old testament.
1. As a power affecting man's mind.
2. A morally effective force
3. God's Power.

But the encyclopedia goes on to state that in the teaching and ministry of Jesus, the DEFINITE PERSONALITY of the Holy Spirit is CLEAR and it goes on to say how a gradual revelation of the person of the Holy Spirit has taken place in the bible.

You purposely decided to skip the whole context so you can further your own belief.

Back in school we studied so many subjects and we do use textbooks published by humans like you and i, the purpose of studying these books is not just to have the head knowledge of what it contains but to derive benefits for readers and those who never had the opportunity to read it!
Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Geography, Agric Science and so on. Today our children grow up to fault the Bible because they are seeing the benefits of those book but there is no benefits derived from the study of the Bible so most people are now seeing this book as just a means of controlling gullible people.

The Bible has been in existence either in part or complete for over 3,500 years now. People do quote and refer to this book. But the whole book becomes useless when all the quotes in it doesn't bring any benefit for those quoting it.

So whatever the Wikipedia, Encyclopedia or any other pedia for that matter says about the book should yield positive results. Because in the absence of that what we are saying indirectly is "let's mock the author of this book, by throwing sticks around with his utterances"

If the Holy Spirit is a person, what are the benefits of his works today?
Or are we here just to talk about the existence of a person whose works are nowhere to be found?
What is the usefulness of talking about an impotent being?

Please if you know where he lives go and tell Mr Holy Spirit that people want to see his works after all everyone believes we can't see him but the book (Bible) said we can see his WORDS! Galatians 5:22-23 compared to James 2:18-26 smiley

God is a Spirit person. Angels are also Spirit persons too

That person that exist as a Spirit is a Spirit person. Crushing your bolded lie.

Since human Spirit is a person According to you, means it's existing in God's spirit nature, Do you now accept the wicked are born again Sharers of God's very nature ?

When you tell us if Spirit of man as a person means you agree Wicked persons share God's spirit nature and are born agains, this will be clear.

If ECC 12:7 as indicated in some translations foot note refer to breath of life , Spirit of man knowing becomes a personification , which wi affect spirit of God too .

Oxford Dictionary says Blasphemy against " Sacred THINGS "

You liar said Jesus knows holy spirit knows, Yet said ONLY the Father knows, isn't that a clear LIE ? grin

No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. Matt 11 vs 27

The above is a great lie if holy spirit is a person. Can we really make Jesus a liar because we want to defend a false concept called Trinity ?

The same book says in the new testament, any attribution of activity to holy spirit - speaking, dwelling etc you are not justified to conclude it's a personality..

John 16:7, 14:26, 15:26 "Paraclete" is masculine "he" in Greek, NOT holy spirit, neuter gender. (Itself, Romans 8:16,26 KJV..)

[b]John 20:22

Jesus breathed power into the disciples, he didn't breathe a person into them. grin

see as you take put yourself for trouble.

Yes in Greek, Spirit has a neuter gender, but he is the interesting thing, In the new testament particularly in the Johanine text, the MASCULINE gender is used to denote Holy Spirit not the neuter gender.

John 16:13-16

But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. 14 He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you. 15 All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what he will make known to you.”

so even those spirit has a neuter gender John went out of his way to give him a masculine gender so that someone like you will have no argument to bring.

Please remind me of the GROUP where these is happening after all Jesus said his own followers will prove to be the salt and light of the world {Matthew 5:13-16} no sane person will expect such things to go unnoticed when the founder (Jesus) spoke so highly about his own followers! smiley

if you need me to tell you all this then i have to wonder what you are taught in your church

My church taught me that God's Active Force /Holy Spirit is working out LOVE, JOY, PEACE, PATIENCE, GOODNESS, GENTLENESS, FAITH, MILDNESS and SELF-CONTROL {Galatians 5:22-23} in the gathering of Jesus' true followers and the whole world can testify to this in the midst of just one group "JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES"

So i wonder why you can't present any group so far as if Jesus' followers can't be what he said "Salt and Light of the world" definitely you don't know Mr Holy Spirit, because if you do you will be able to tell what his WORKS are and where he is presently doing it! smiley
