The reason your assertion seems obvious is because, in most cases, when a husband's side doesn't like the wife, it is passed down to the offsprings of that union, thus making them(offsprings) accustomed to their mother's side of the family.

Secondly, if one's dad doesn't have a smooth relationship with their family as the case of PSQUARE, the children tend to tilt towards their mother's side more...

And then, single parenting: Most of the time the woman gets custody of the children. She doesn't even have to poison their minds before they pick a side. It comes naturally as they spend more time with one side.

Conclusion: Some extended peeps are better of family only when there's an event. They fill up the venue — their only usefulness

My dad died when I was in SS2, mum was a clerical assistant in a State secretariat. You need to see the usefulness of my uncles from my father's side during my dad's burial.

After the burial, Only uncles from my mother's side checked on us.
