What's the meaning of Korame in Edo?

I've never even seen an Edo word that starts with K before.

Do you expect we had a written Benin dictionnary in the period of time in which the paper was written ?

"What is the meaning in your language" is an old semi-illiterate talking point. The fact you people keep repeating this talking point tells a lot about you.

For your info, these letters are european, we don't have letters, we only started writing our languages as we knew them long after this paper was made, and we used european letters.

Oga, Curamo na Portuguese origin. So you honestly think these white men that were in a hurried to strip their conquered territories of their origin will give a new name to a colonized city and retain an existing African name? Think well.

Well the first eye-witnesses to the region witnessed Lagos being part of Benin empire. Proven.
I always knew you to be a dullard. You never disappoint.

When does the appearance of the word “Benin” on a map become an evidence that Benin allegedly conquered Lagos? How old are you? cheesy

Going by your rusty brain, we must examine the map embedded below and then make the following conclusions:

(1) That “Guinea” was once an Empire.

(2) That “Guinea” once conquered the W/African forest & coast from Senegal to Cameroon.

www.nairaland.com/attachments/12996390_b10a434b13284f7783994e24af0a942d_jpeg_jpegc4289361561a0d8715407a492bb5aeea

Isn’t it??

I strongly think dictionaries should really be updated to reflect your full legal name and your photograph as the latest definition of the word “dullard”.

I am coming to disgrace you fully in the nearest time. Watch out!

This is why I'm doubting the accuracy of the paper cos the Benin clearly can never give a city a name of European origin.

Notice that the word "Oba" is also a japanese word.

Once again the name is not a european name.
And the paper was written hundreds of years ago by eyewitnesses.
Also the paper is backed by a lot of precolonial maps drawn by other people across several centuries.

So what in hell is your point ?

The fact is that you hate the truth and would always find an excuse to deny it. But I will give you one thing: you have shown yourself to be a little bit smarter than most your fellow yoruba whom are living in a completely alternate reality in which logics and truth do not exist.

But you need to do the extra work and accept facts and logics, right now you are being fanatical and dogmatic.

You fraudulent bald head, the book (not paper) does not imply that the Binis named it as Korame.

The book instead says:

••• Benin people refer to it by the name Korame [which is] recognizably the Curamo of the old Portuguese accounts •••

So, “Korame” is the old Portuguese “Curamo”. “Korame” is not an Edo word, you fraud. cheesy

Moreover, the book continues to show that the word “Eko” which has now flowed into the Edo lexicon (from their contact with Lagos) actually comes from the Dutch language.

It reads:

••• Benin people refer to it by the name Korame [which is] recognizably the Curamo of the old Portuguese accounts, just as Eko represents the Dutch hydrographers’ Ichoo.

TAO11 why do they keep trying to drag Lagos with Yoruba ?

The Case is well beyond Contention !

Not a Single Oba or Chief in Lagos speaks Edo or bears even a single Edo name!

It is even Edo's that are bearing Yoruba names!

Imagine Yoruba trying to drag Accra with the Ga because Alaafin once ruled the Land

Oba of Lagos was even a Babaloja he had no land

Whenever you’re about to engage me, always have it in mind that you’re about to face someone with superior intelligence. So, don’t bother with your dumb tricks which you apply with naive folks.

Now to disgracing you on this:

(1) Where does the book say that the Portuguese “Curamo” was based on Benin language?

I guess you pulled that out from your anus as usual. cheesy

(2) Where does the book say that the Portuguese met Binis in Lagos?

You also pullled that out from your anus as usual.

(3) Instead, the book makes it clear it is the Benins’ “Korame” which is based on the old Portuguese “Curamo”.

(4) Moreover, the same book makes it clear that, the native name is “Ahoni”, ”Awani”, ”Ahoy”

— obviously in their foreign rendition — but clearly reminiscent of the name of the indigenous people “Awori”.
