The House of Representatives has faulted the Federal Government for giving schools the go-ahead to resume on Monday despite the increasing cases of COVID-19.

The House said government officials did not consult the relevant committees of the National Assembly, contrary to their claim that all relevant stakeholders were consulted before arriving at the January 18, 2021, resumption date.

It, therefore, demanded postponement of resumption for three months, where necessary safety measures weren’t put in place and compliance with protocols low.

Chairman of the House Committee on Basic Education and Services, Prof Julius Ihonvbere, disclosed these in a telephone interview with our correspondent on Saturday.

“They did not consult us; at least in my committee, nobody from the ministry spoke to me. I have been in Abuja. And I am not sure that they spoke to any of my members. They just don’t see us as part of the critical stakeholders,” he said.

Ihonvbere, in a statement he issued in Abuja on Saturday, on behalf of his committee, opposed the Monday resumption date.

The statement was titled “School resumption: Are we truly prepared?”

It read, “The Committee on Basic Education and Services, House of Representatives, has received with concern the decision of the Federal Government to reopen schools on January 18, 2021.

“We are particularly concerned that when the infection rates hovered around 500 and under, schools were closed; but now that it hovers well above 1,000 infections daily, schools are being reopened. Why are we rushing to reopen schools without adequate verifiable and sustainable arrangements to protect and secure our children?”

Are they more obligated to managing COVID-19 than the PTF who has okayed the resumption of schools on 18th January, so long the schools follow strict guidelines on COVID-19?

COVID-19 is here to stay. It's either we run from it and die of other things it deprives us of, or we learn to live with it with care and move on with our lives.

These guys wants to continue with their madness again..

Kingstanding:
. They are not bothered because their bogus salaries and allowances will be credited to their various accounts every month. Useless sets of legislooters. God will punished them all for their wickedness to the citizens. They did not tell federal government on how they will give citizens palliative money only thing they know is to make life unbearable to the citizens. Joe Biden that is yet to resume as the president of American has already approved $1400 to each American citizens as a covid19 stimulus packages. He has approved $450 billion dollars to small scale businesses in America but here in Nigeria the case is opposite. Almighty God will judge our leaders and their households the way they treat Nigerians.

And their kids do not school in Nigeria; that's the most annoying part.

So no matter how long they close our schools here in the Country, their children are outside the country enjoying quality education.

This is the worst time to be a student in this modafvcking country right away...

Most of my guys who are already in 300 level in different universities have already given up on school.....Ask them what's the way forward, they'll tell you-"omo,na Yahoo sure pass now oh".

By the time our leaders will realize the huge damages most of their selfish decisions have brought upon Nigeria,it might have been too late... because the only future I can foresee for my beloved south/south right now is that Yahoo and oloshoism would be the only way out for most youths

And when the ordinary Yahoo isn't going well as planned, they'll have no other option than to couple it up with ritual

I'm a Deltan and I know what I'm talking about...in let's say not less than five years time, the south may likely be in ruins

Small small I don dey regret why I leave north come home for 2015

CORONAVIRUS enough is enough.
You have caused enough damage in this world.
Time to pack your virus and go....... if wishes were horses!

Whatever decision they are arrived at : May God continue to protect, guide and guard our kids and wards in Jesus name.
Insha Allah.

God's able protection is ALL we pray for.
It will end in praise.
