From my understanding of Agile PM, its related to software development while Project Management qualifications for construction such as PMP, APM etc purely relates to managerial knowledge of delivering construction projects to Time, Cost and Quality.

APM is UK originated, however having the PMP (PMI) also helps show the employer that you have got international experience. At least, I would like to think it contributed to my first employment

Like I said earlier, they are trying to push out the traditional waterfall methodology and introduce the agile process for all kind of projects nowadays. Hence, you see a lot of scrum masters and AgilePMs around. To be honest, I prefer the waterfall model cos it clearly show you the status at every stage of the project. However, you have to follow the trend and money.

Whilst PMI is good to have, I'd tilt towards APM cos UK likes their own things except you're working for a foreign company.

I have seen several roles ask for PMP. Some will say Prince 2 or any other project management certification. In my engineering experience in the UK, I have seen more of PMP requirement than prince 2. A lot of the engineering firms are [b]international [\b] and you are likely to interact with global clients and work on international projects.

Exactly. Like I pointed out, UK companies love their local certifications more, while international companies would want international certifications.

I’ve been on a PM training call and the tutor said “in the UK, we prefer to do our projects in controlled environments..”

None is relevant if it is not Agile.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agile_construction

Traditional methods of Project Management is wasteful and expensive.

When I was teaching my agile class I actually told them that Engineering can’t be agile. Imagine building a bridge and first working on an MVP for people to drive on it and give feedback grin

One thing is certain, you won’t get that feedback cos they will all be dead grin

I can’t say for sure if your international cert added to your employability here in the UK, but one thing I’m sure of it certainly didn’t add to mine. UK employers are quite snobby. I have the highest level of international qualifications in my field but all my employer talks about is my lowest one (because it is from the BCS). Like they see that one as “wow!” grin

Even with IT agile is a mess really ....(easier said than done kind of mess) .... initally it was the buzz word floating around even my current project. During design them dey throw the word agile up and down.

But idea and reality can be night and day. Las las it back to waterfall methodology. But e good to read about it for interview purposes

Agile actually works when people start focusing on building the mindset rather than ticking boxes. The last 3 companies that I worked at, they did agile successfully. Being agile doesn’t mean you must do scrum, kanban very easy to learn and apply. I actually advise businesses to start with kanban so they adapt to the ideology of agility, before practicing XP, Safe, Less or Scrum.

Hi,

Has anyone moved to the UK recently on the new Skilled workers route (replacing Tier 2)? I don't see any major changes from Tier 2. What am I missing? Just curious.

I am not into civil engineering projects but I know OGC/Prince2 and PMI are pushing the Agile narrative with full force.
Exactly, so why will I go for agile certification?

The difference between Skilled Worker Visa & Tier 2 (General) visa is the difference between NEPA & PHCN.

Hi Fam, since we’re talking about certifications, any suggestions or advice on certifications or other skills to add on to improve employability or career progression as a business analyst?
