Hello!
My eyes are sensitive to light. I noticed this long time ago(about 8 years ago when I was a teen).
When I walk under the sun or someone shines a light on my face, my eyes hurt. At times, after prolonged exposure to light (all kinds of light), my eyes start to itch me, it hurts and usually leads to frontal headache(headache around my forehead). So I deprive myself of light without using my phone, light bulb and so on then relives me after some days).
Three years ago, I went to a new eye clinic and it was diagnosed as "photophobia". I was told I'm going to get AR(anti reflective lenses). I didn't get it as I was still in school and didn't have money then.
Recently, I started learning computer programming and I've been using my laptop and phone for about 14 hours per day and the eye hurts and headache have been disturbing a lot.
Now, I want to know if I can go ahead and get the the AR lens without medical prescription or I go to an eye clinic again.

NB: I went to a boarding school and my family isn't financially buoyant so I result to Garri(cassava flakes) most times without milk. Now that I've finished with Uni, I still drink Garri a lot but I haven't for almost a week now...

Please, I need medical opinions ( to go to eye clinic or get the AR lens myself?)

I will be expecting your positive responses

you may be having discomfort glare with or without refractive error. You definitely need to visit an eye clinic and a photochromic AR lenses having your prescription if you are having an associated refractive error would be helpful

Hello, thank you for being here.
For the past 6 years I've been on glasses for short sight. I've never changed it, neither is my sight improving. I really want to stop using the glasses or at least not depend too much on it. Are there drugs I can use or what do you suggest.
PS. I use glasses watching TV and driving. It's that serious

there aint any drug for that . refractive surgery isn't a common option yet in nigeria as well as it having it cons and not everyone would be good candidate for it. You may aswell explore the option of contact lenses instead of spectacles

Thanks for the good work here.

I was diagnosed with glaucoma today. What should I expect? They said it's still at the early stage though.

good it was diagnosed this early. It's what you manage all through life. You 'll have to stick to your drugs, and Dr's regular appointment for check ups. Then advise other family members to get screened for it too

So if I stick to the drug and appointments, case of blindness or extreme loss of vision might not come up?

Dr Good Evening,
Thanks for your free medical advice here.

I actually wear transition lenses (glasses with photochromic dyes) because of my sensitivity to light.
I have Myopia with a touch of glaucoma (Doctor's words verbatim). I last visited the eye clinic last November,2019. But the eye doctor gave me drugs( transfered it from the packet to a drug bag so that I won't see the name of the drugs) . The doctor also gave me Brimopress Sterile Eye drops (Brimonidine Tartrate Ophthalmic Solution 0.2%).

My Mum booked the appointment at the clinic and drove me there so I have not been able to visit the clinic since then. The Doctor said I should check up every month and my glasses would expire after two years.

My Drugs finished since 2019 , my Eye drops finished since early 2020 and I'm very dependent on glasses right now (my Mum told me if I wore my glasses everytime I won't need them again) but reverse was the case.

I can't watch TV or even drive without glasses. From around April last year I used to even wear it to the bathroom before taking my bath. That's how dependent I have become but I see very clearly with my glasses.

Am I dependent on my glasses because I don't go for checkup? Can I buy the eye drops the doctor gave me again but the doctor said that during checkups the pressure of my eyes would be measured to determine the eye drops I should use.

Can you make recommendations for me please.
Thanks Sir.

it appears you cannot see without glasses because your eyes have gotten used to seeing better with the glasses . It is very important to monitor your eye pressure and possibly do a visual field analysis test to ensure your eyes are not deteriorating from glaucoma and also very important, your medications as glaucoma is a disease you manage throughout life else you loose your vision . My advise is that you find a clinic around you to assess your eyes and place you on the appropriate meds .

take him to an eye clinic to be screened for refractive error. Also recurrent stye could be associated with diabetes and sometimes, there may be need to rule out basal cell carcinoma. As for the floaters, there are different causes for such. Let him visit an eye clinic for an eye exam and afterwards the best approach in handling it would be known .

i learnt a few clinics does refractive surgery in nigeria but haven't verified and of course trust it to be very expensive . You could also discuss with your Dr on using contact lenses if you are tired of using glasses regularly

Thank you for the response, but what are the success/satisfactory rate of such surgeries in Nigeria?

and actually it's been a long time since I visited a doctor, cos Everytime I go there, it's just changing of glass lenses, nothing more n the sight keeps diminishing

i really do not know much about it . Like i stated, i haven't verified. It isn't an uncommon thing for myopia to be progressive.

i do not know of any clinic that does that but if nigeria were working as it ought to be, a contact lens specialist ought to have helped you out as regards that .

Hello Doc
The last time i checked my IOP it was 12/12 that was 2 months ago. I checked it today and it read 18/18 the Doc said 18 is normal for a non glaucoma patient but for a glaucoma patient like me it is sub-normal. So she said i should continue using the Betaxolol and i was given an appointment till next year february she said if the pressure is still at 18 or above by the time she'll have to place me on another medication in order to lower the pressure.

I don't experience dry eyes anymore but i still see starburst which i complained about and she beamed a pen-like torch into my eyes and said my cornea is still ok.

Hello Doc. I have left my state and I won't be going home until April that means I won't be around for the appointment the Doc scheduled for February. I'm in Lagos now I decided to visit a private hospital here in Lag and explain things to them I was billed 25k before I could see an eye specialist there. I was shocked to hear that so I left after my registration there. They only gave me a card and opened a file for me at the rate of 2k.

IKOLA is not far from command it's within Ipaja axis. State hospital here shouldn't charge that much right? In my state hospital consultation fee is 1k. I was shocked yesterday when that private hospital billed me 25k as consultation fee.
