Service Chiefs without any meaningful security legacy
Just a ceremonial approach without jettison for strong security strategy instrumental to a strong Defence Ministry

Proactivity Leads To Productivity!!!!

I understand that during OBJ tenure, the nation was just coming out of military dictatorship hence the need for balance. But the death of Yar-Adua and the drama that followed led to the distrust and ethnic suspicion we are witnessing today. This division don tey!!!
No be lie. All we have now are disservice chiefs grin

BafanaBafana:
Obj changed his service chiefs every 2 years, he appointed both northerners and southerners as COAS, he never appointed any Muslim to the position.
Yaradua had only 2 COAS, all northerners, one Christian, the other one Muslim.
GEJ made his appointment of COAS from his constituency, south east and south south, all Christians.
Buhari also picked his COAS from his constituency, north west and north east
sad NOW THAT THE COUNTRY HAS NEW SERVICE CHIEFS AS PEOPLE LIKE YOU CAMPAIGNED, CAN WE GO TO BED NOW WITH OUR BOTH EYES CLOSE?!

The era of Lt.Gen.Salihu Ibrahim as COAS during the Babangida era is the most memorable. The man is a humble & professional soldier to the core.Abacha's era during same IBB time is the worst till date.
Military and the economy was far more better under Abacha's regime. He suffered as a result of some killings.

a very big lie, Abacha's government was economically better all the governments in Nigeria since 1999, he was a thief yes but looting was restricted to only a few of his clicks, unlike what we have today, he was a tyrant yes, but he only terrorised politician and big men who stepped on his toes, he had no business with the masses, lastly it was a heavily militarized government which had soldiers everywhere doing the work of police too, but economically Nigeria was better...

And what economic data do you rely on?

I observed that starting from the time of Umar Musa Yar'adua, all the presidents who came aboard made soldiers who come from regions they can trust their COAS. I guess the reason is to be sure they wouldn't experience any form of coup.

But then, I keep wondering why we still have some cabals teleguiding Nigeria's presidents when the president has the man they can trust controlling the military.

It just begs the question: Have we ever had politicians who are committed to fixing this shithole?

And what economic data do you rely on?

You do not need any economic data for that, the average purchasing power of every Nigerian that time was better than now, inflation rate was far lesser, as at then 100 naira could feed a whole family, compare the minimum wage that time to what it is now then match it with what 100 naira could do that time and what 100 naira can do now, then you will know what I'm talking about... if you need the breakdown of what 100 naira could purchase then and now, I can give you a break down...

He's the only one who picked a COAS who couldn't stop terror, and kept the guy on for 6 years. No one else kept them beyond 3-4 years.

Abaxha indeed centralized corruption and we were better off economically but not democratically. Freedom of expression was gone. The saving grace under Buhari is Social Media that's bridging the gap in media freedom restriction.

Of what use is this

Shows how a CINC remained tone and result deaf in his dealings. He kept the longest service Chief among all presidents, and he never reviewed his progress. Today BHTs have multiplied and they've still not done anything about them. 6 whole years and one man didn't think hard on equipping the army adequately. Yet he kept him there. To fill the nepotism quota.
