Ancient Egypt was no 'atheist paradise'..it was a very religious country, with its own religious deeds and practices, and gods, and mythos, and priests even....

Bersides, the devcline of Egypt happened long before Islam or Chirsitanity. The Egyptians were beaten by the Assyrians, Babylonians, PERSIANS, greeks, and Romans...all very religious nations...and they were in decline long before then.

Plus, countries are not underdeveloped because 'religion'. (The lack of religion in Europe is a byproduct of its development...most of the time many European nations were developing, they were deeply relgious places, and it has even been argued that Christianity, which unlike most religions separates the mythic from the literal..helped develop the sciences that made much development possible)

If we don't study the past, how are we supposed to know where the world is headed. The Nigerian govt scrapped history from our curriculum and we all complained. People who value history are carrying out research to understand the past and we are still complaining. Have you ever seen a wildlife documentary? It's because of white people we are able to learn about the world around us. They do research to satisfy their curiosity. Is that a bad thing?

Egypt has a large ministry that deals with 'antiquites'; also a lot of Egyptians are into the rediscovery of their ancient past.
