Nigeria is not underdeveloped because 'religion'

Nigeria is the classic case of a resource rich country that thinks it can live off exporting its resources, and then importing what it needs. This has the effect of stfling job growth because we end up importing stuff we even make (and it has already wrecked our textile industry to give an example)..

Also, we think we can use the revenue to pay for subsidising everything...which is why we 1) have poor budgets because revenues from what we sell are not enough due to price fluctuations 2) the oil industry is in ruins because years of subsidising fuel have made it unprofitable to refine fuel in Nigeria...and any attempt to remoive subsidy is met with resistance 3) our educaiton system is in a bad way because of poor funding from years of us thinking we can pay $200 for a $20000 or more education ..and also because of poor taxes 4) our power system is in a bad way because we seek to maufactuure power at N53 per kwh and pay nothing for that power...meaning that no profits to make improvements...leading to power cuts, and thus it is unprofitable to run industires in this country 5) we all have an idea that technical educaiton is for dropouts...meaning we have a scarcity of critical technicians...who are the people that actually build developed countries 6) finally we think that the best business idea is to import and sell stuff...not to make the stuff..which means many things like our few major manufactuers having to rely on imports for small parts..which could have been made at home.

And not just Nigeria , Africa.

The thing is, we can't be blaming religion. The Soviets gave up religion, and while they developed industrially, they wrecked it by bad economic practicies...which is why Russia isn't living up to its potential even today...they could have been better than America.

There is a lot we need to change, and giving up religion won't change it. Changing our mindset, by even accepting the religous doctrine of 'doing the right thing' etc might help
